Original post inspired by this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpRFagIbcPE but of course, these cars would also be awesome at Goodwood etc I've actually driven a racing D-Type around Mallory Park got a lovely 1:18 version sitting in my study, just love its pure lines.

The Maserati has pretty much zero grip and I vaguely remember the Jag being the same - we'd get about 4 drivers

ah thats a shame, cant someone with a bit of AC physics knowledge fix them? There was a discord league running a full set of 50's sportscars for a league series a while back so presume they had a sorted set of cars. Will see if i can track them down.
My favourite racing era is mid 60's to 80's really but there is a purity about some of these 50's cars, like racing thoroughbreds.

You say fix them. But they had pretty much zero grip anyway back in the day. Inch or 2 wide tires, shocking suspension, unrefined engines and gearboxes plus almost un-usable brakes. The cars are pretty accurate, but too many people don't like driving to what they have for us to get a good field based on past experience - If we could convince all of the GPL drivers to take up AC it might be different (Especially the 55 crowd), but AC types don't seem keen on proper challenges for some reason

If you ran them I would almost certainly be there.

Tried the D type and as much as I like it, I think I'd struggle to race it and probably get frustrated with its handling pretty quickly. I'd give it a chance in a fun race though. Why don't we try a fun race with Bazza's new GTC 60's pack? It has a couple of E types and all the cars drive very nicely and at least there is a good choice for most tastes. The BoP seems ok too but maybe we could pick a few cars and run a similar format to the proto pot luck series if they prove popular. https://www.f1classic.net/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=293Or there is the classic Trans Am mod, which since its update has become my personal oldies fave. Again maybe a fun race to gauge interest? https://www.f1classic.net/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=33

Could be interesting, for enthusiasts! ah thats a shame, cant someone with a bit of AC physics knowledge fix them? There was a discord league running a full set of 50's sportscars for a league series a while back so presume they had a sorted set of cars. Will see if i can track them down.

No need to fix them...if they were like this No one wants to repair the 55 GPL if you find, I would like to know, maybe THRacing ?

no i misunderstood what Tim was saying. i thought he meant the tyre grip physics were wrong but he was just referring to the general lack of grip on these old skinny tyres. I guess its all perception, we are all used to grippy fat tyres these days. When i started driving cars we had 5 or 6 inch wide wheels (155 profile tyres!) so was often sideways in my Mk1 and 2 escorts or Mk1/2 cortinas Those boys in the 50's had even less grip ! Mind you a lot of them had fought in ww2 and had a very different sense of danger I saw the D-Types in action at Goodwood last October at the members meet. They still look fantastic Goodwood is a great track for these cars if we ever wanted to try the cars out.

I still use 6" wide tires on track with well over 300Bhp - teaches you far more than grip ever will (shocking how much faster I go with the wider rims on though )
