Moderator's Report

Summary
A win for Dulima with Eric and Ricardo in a close finish for second and third places respectively.

Bonus Points:

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

Lap 1 Dr Tiroch Curve – Gareth and Billy Nobrakes
Gareth comes under pressure from Pete Bennett so he leaves his braking very late in order to try to hold Pete off. Unfortunately, he is too late on the brakes and ends up rear ending Billy. Given that this is the first lap and the cars are very close together, several other drivers are involved in the ensuing carnage.

Billy did nothing wrong.

Gareth must shoulder the responsibility for this incident.

  • Gareth (Gareth Hall67)penalty — Blatant rear end shunt = 2 places plus extra place for lap 1 — 3 places lost

Season 40 1967F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 2  - Zeltweg

Round 2 finds us at Zeltweg Austria. Zeltweg - the original Österreichring. Built in 1969 to replace the bland and bumpy Zeltweg Airfield circuit, the track was known for being very fast, as every corner was a fast sweeper and taken in no lower than 3rd gear in a 5-speed gearbox and 4th in a 6-speed gearbox.  There are also noticeable changes in elevation during the course of a lap which means the downhill sections are even faster. Like most fast circuits it was a hard circuit on engines and even harder on tyres simply because the speeds were so consistently high.

One curiosity, use you the the 67 extra mod online edition or the original Papy?
I'm quite confused and I don't want to have made some mistake with my installation.
I do this also to find a reason to my frequent engine explosion in the last season.I have not finished a race which with others mod don't happen.

I have only ever used the original Papyrus. Engine explosions are very rare for me - probably not going fast enough.

I tend to break the 67 and 55 cars by over-revving. Try taller gears in your race set-up.

Screen freeze running 9th with 18 laps to go, one second behind Philippe and 25 seconds ahead of Bernie. Screen freeze patch installed and checked in GEM, for all the good it does. Sigh.

Bad luck Pepe,

I enjoyed that had some good laps with David and Albert. couldnt catch billy, nice drive mate.

I over drove the coop a bit through the corners and paid the price. had a few slides n spins.  but seemed to be well out dragged out of the corners and losing at least a second along the front and back straights. i thought this track was twisty, but it has some fast bits too.

but I managed through sheer skill and dogged determination to make them bits nice n slow.. LOL.

I was very lucky in this race with a very solid and reliable BRM.

My car had four contacts with other cars without any big issues :
Two with Paul, the first when I spun in front of him, the second when he spun in front of me.

Then another contact,  after several laps following a very zig-zagging Albert, when he hit the armco on the last turn before starting line.
Unfortunately he had to retire after our incident.

And finally with Bernie on the very last lap when he spun.
Then it seems Bernie slowed down to let me go.  Thank you, Bernie !

It seemed the fair way to go as you would prolly have got past me anyway and I think my spin caused you to spin to avoid a collision . For some reason my front LH was going into the red zone as was the engine temps every time I pushed too hard , strange because with what little experience ive had driving the Whale it was always the rears that went into meltdown .
I need to do work on getting the thing off the line . I was careful to not over rev a cold engine and got left at the start but gained more from arriving late at T1 were every one seemed to be ice dancing and was able to pick my way through the mess .

Well pleased with the finish and for the first time ever I really enjoyed a good race with the BRM squad .

Grats to the Pods and all other finishers

My race had positive and negative aspects at the same time.

First, I improved my PBs a lot since more than ten years.

Then I was able to start from the 3rd row since centuries from the last time.

Finally, my pace was quite good to stay behind Dave and in front of Pete for several laps.

What's happened then?!?

I probably started to check my mirrors too often and slowed my pace.
I didn't realized that thge tires cooled down so I wasn't able to stay on track and I lost the position to Pete.
OK, Philippe was neraly 10" behind but I spun again because of the tire temps.
Then I realized about it and I drove carefully for few laps to heat the tires again.

Unfortunately, after I saw that in one lap I reduced by 3" the gap from Philippe, I pushed too hard, missed the right baking point on Tiroch, hit the Armco and ended my race upside-down...

It was fun until it lasted!

See you in Riverside

Cheers

FL, you were hard to catch but I did wonder if you had picked up some mechanical damage as you did slow quite a bit before I could pass you. I had erred in the side of caution with my setup and had selected gears which were a little too long to get the acceleration out of the corners. At least I didn't blow the engine up though

Happy with 5th in the Honda but still a couple of seconds off the pace of front runners. Great drive, chaps.
