Season 40 – CanAM – Round 3 – Porto

Circuito da Boavista is a street circuit in Porto, Portugal, which was used twice for the Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix. The original course began at the harbor-front 'Esplanada do Rio de Janeiro', continued on 'Avenida da Boavista', (hence the circuit's name), and then twisted its way through small neighborhoods back to the start-finish line.

The first Grand Prix was held in 1958, and saw an act of sportsmanship by Stirling Moss. Moss came to the defense of his countryman and title rival Mike Hawthorn, who faced a penalty for having driven towards oncoming traffic after a spin. Moss persuaded the stewards not to disqualify Hawthorn, who retained his second place and 6 points. Hawthorn eventually won the drivers championship by 1 point over Moss.

ROLLING STARTS

Red Line is after T2, the left-hander at the end of the main straight.

As far as I understand: 3 cars for 5 races = 2x2 +1x

Training server is up

Bot...

You just don't get it, do you?  You don't now, never have and I doubt ever will.  You are...far and away...the most irresponsible and dangerous member of this or any other club.

You are also looking at a DQ for passing a car before T2.

Sorry again Claudio, I tried to do a quick power turn, but you were there...

I hate these tires with the sudden grip change at 80°

Very happy to be the first HUMAN to cross the line. I nearly messed it up as I only had 10 gallons of fuel at start so had to do SHIFT-R on lap 10. That gave Evil the chance to close in and he nearly got me on L17. Great battle to the end. Thanks for racing and grats to Yannick for being SO fast.

Yourth , as usual  you drive in the middle and don't let room....do u have pribluda ?....
...I miss the start and unfortunatly I was ahead of the s/f line ....that's why I am one lap behind in the end.....whith the roling start I can rejoint the group and Dave, my team mate , let me pass as he surely understand what append to me ....If I will be DQ for that : no problem ( Yourth will be happy ! )...
...after that, fight for the podium was just a dream! but I can finish 4 th and save some points ...depend what decide the moderators, but in fact I have 'not a lap delay, when you start from pits , if you are behind the S/F line you are in the same lap than the others... if you are in front of the S/F line ,even from only one meter, you have one lap delay ! ( + the time that the green button apear ! )

Bravo Yannick & podium
 thx all and Org.

Hi all,

Sorry for my absence in January and the first few bits of February.
I had my PC sent to a workshop to install a new processor (i5-7400 > i7-7700K) I bought, but when it turned out my motherboard needed to be replaced as well things went pretty crazy.
The workshop ordered the same motherboard, but new, from MSI but there were loads of issues regarding payment and constant delaying of the delivery time due to the global chip shortage.
After five whole weeks of back and forth I got my PC back on last Thursday with a different motherboard (not from MSI) that was available and new and bigger house for my PC.

On to the race... well, I was pretty quick, wasn't I? Got to play catch up now that I missed two or three races of each championship Cheesy
See you next race!

Pete sent me a PM regarding Bot's conduct in this round and offered me the chance to state my case.  I'll pass on that as nothing short of a ban will ever register on Bot's brain.

I saw a video recently regarding the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath.  Interesting.  The psychopath will slit your throat and not lose a moment's sleep.  The sociopath will slit your throat and feel guilty about it later.  Thing is your still stuck with your throat slit.

A STATEMENT FROM THE MODERATORS

Some members have expressed anger and frustration about incidents and driver behaviour in recent races, both on the Forum and in PM's to the moderators.

The moderators, as a group, are aware that there are points of friction between certain individuals within UKGPL. Sometimes an incident can be clearly attributed to a mistake by one of the parties, and sometimes it is the same party that is repeating the same behaviour in race after race.
However when replays are carefully studied (often frame by frame) the apportioning of 100% blame in every case is not always so clear.

We all race in GPL for fun, or at least we hope that you do. So, the moderators who commit considerable time behind the scenes to organise and run UKGPL with the help of Dave Gymer's excellent SROU platform are reluctant to impose draconian penalties on anyone. The Court system and the UKGPL rules are intended to provide an independent assessment of incidents and apportioning of blame/penalties. The hope is that such judgements bring to the driver's attention elements of their on track behaviour that they need to work on and therefore become better drivers.
Even the very best of us can make a mistake, or a very bad error of judgement, when in a close racing situation. We have to assume that no-one is deliberately behaving badly ( but when that has happened in the distant past  the perpetrator was served with an immediate lifetime ban ) and simply needs their attention drawn to where they "could have made a better choice".

Before you launch a verbal attack upon a fellow racer we suggest that you take a careful look at a replay of the incident from multiple viewpoints. From inside your car, inside the other person's car, from above etc. View these replays at normal speed and frame by frame.
You might sometimes find that what you were sure you experienced in the 2-3 secs of the incident was not in fact what was actually happening?

Further methods of intervention are currently under consideration by the moderating team, but we have no great wish to add extra work to our current load as we see our primary role as organising and planning, not policing and punishing the behaviour of adults in a PC game?!

Thank you for that, Clive.  I'll try my best to behave maturely in future but sometimes, it's a real stretch.
