Moderator's Report

PRibeiro joined in a scoring car despite being a Masters driver. The Masters should take non-scoring (G2 or GT3) cars so that they don't have any direct effect on the Clubmen championship.

As a one off, his car has been classified in G2. In future, we will probably exclude such drivers from the results.

A few reserve drivers joined before the start of Practice 2; all drivers are reminded that they should join in the correct session.

Server replay time: 1312s

Backo is challenging Kerr for the lead as they race down the Flight Straight. Popabawa and Munkez are ahead and about to be lapped, and Backo is on the left and about to suddenly run out of road as he uses the 550's huge straightline speed advantage to get alongside Kerr, who misinterprets Popabawa's slight course correction as he tucks back over to the left ready for T2, and Brian suddenly moves left as he thinks he is about to run into the back of the Vertigo.

Unfortunately, Backo is right there and has to run off the circuit to avoid a big accident, losing 7 spots in the process (and a further place waiting to rejoin safely).

I've no reason to believe that this was anything other than a racing incident, although Backo put himself into a position with no Plan B, and Kerr should really have been aware of which side Backo was coming down and gone right and not left.

  • BACKOadvice — always have a Plan B
  • Kerr (Brian Kerr)advice — maintain better situational awareness

Server replay time: 2239s

Jure is about to lap Anthony's M3 as they exit Startkurven. Ant hesitates for a moment about which way to go, then moves back to the left, but Jure has started to commit to the left also. Anthony then lifts off the throttle before Jure has a chance to duck right and the result is inevitably an accident.

Server replay time: 3126s

CE is chasing PaulW for 8th as he comes up to lap Popabawa. CE passes under braking for T2 but runs just a fraction too deep into the corner and drops a wheel off onto the dirt, sliding back on and collecting Pops. CE then does a good job rejoining safely on the inside of Laktar without impeding Pops any further.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 4075s

Jure, who is being chased by Picnic and is chasing Dirk, catches Eddie Meyer and Anthony Humphreys as they arrive at T4. The faster car passes Eddie on the brakes but catches Anthony unawares and there is some relatively mild side contact mid-corner.

This fuel usage problem has plagued me a lot tbh, 5-10 laps from the end I've got enough for that plus 3-4 laps extra in the bag, then all of a sudden with 1-2 laps left I'm on vapours.
Most annoying and makes a mockery of calculating the fuel to 'just' last.
Lately I'll overfuel the car by 10 laps or so, even then it just drinks it in the closing stages.

I must say I don't like the massive speed difference between some of the cars.

Jeez, stop that, would you?  Angry   Endurance, mixed class, tactics, gantlemanly racing, interesting things going on for 80 minutes - remember?!  You have Sprint for the same class.   Tongue

Don't take that as a negative against drivers of slower cars. They are very good drivers but driving the cars to the absolute maximum.

It at times causes confusion when the closing speed is so rapid and at many times during the race it's still difficult to make a safe pass.

I had no unexpected issues with fuel use, I had pretty close to the amount I expected at the end. Dunno if this is maybe a car specific issue? I wonder if it's less tempting for to try to go with minimal fuel because of the lack of the MOTEC display in the Vertigo!

FWIW, when testing, I initially use the MoTeC interpreter to check my fuel consumption on a track by track basis with a full load, then back that up with some in-game testing on 6x fuel use.

It seems there was lots of door banging throughout and many guilty parties. I find it hard to call what backmarkers are going to do as there is no consistency. Sometimes they move off racing line, sometimes they don't and although you approach with relative caution at times you can still get caught out.

Don't forget that this was the first Clubmen race with some relatively inexperienced drivers in both classes, it can take a while for all parties to get used to each other. That's why it's good to discuss it (the general principles, not specific incidents).  It also didn't help that Anderstop is probably one of the most difficult to  deal with in mixed class racing. I'm sure Silverstone will go rather more smoothly Smiley

To re-iterate the guidelines, best practice is for slower cars to stay on the racing line unless it's safer and easier to move offline to facilitate the pass.

I used less fuel than I was expecting- I went for 44 minutes and then 38 in the set-up, but didn't pit until close to 50 minutes. I'd dropped the maximum revs by 200 to be cautious and probably only maxed the revs on the straight, perhaps the calculation GTR presents you with is based on redlining with max revs set?

I ran out of fuel on the last lap at the bottom of the hill at Enna a while ago- gutted isn't the word! I've stopped fiddling with close-to-the-bone amounts now and just add a couple of laps extra to each stint for safety. 2 laps fuel is nothing in terms of weight and the sort of thing you can make up by a couple of good corner exits. Just play it safe and get the driving right is my advice  Smiley

I had no issues as well. The fact that I ran out of fuel on the last lap was absolutely my own fault  Roll Eyes  If I had stuck to my original tactic I would have finished with 5-6L left..But as usual I had to do a last-minute change  Grin

Don't forget some cars fuel usage calculations in the garage are complete rubbish (which is also why the onboard calculations are wrong too (how many laps left on tank)). Mosler and Saleen are two I can think of but I'm sure some of the others are way out too. Mosler uses about 1.5x what it says in the garage, which is why I do all my calculations manually.

I set more than 10 minutes surplus for the night race at Imola for Mosler and I still ran out of fuel there.  Cheesy

I've never managed to complete a lap there either TT Smiley.

Not much fuel calculations needed for the Vertigo, but reading in garage was way off. Could have completed a sprint race with the fuel I had left over.

What a plum!!!
Fueled myself short by 5 or so laps!! cant get the hang of this pit board? when it comes up and lists fuel with tyres and so on, what are the Numbers next to it?

Congrats to podium and thanks to the GT1 cars for not barging their way through on such a twisty circuit  Kiss

Munk

I believe it is   litres/laps

Right, after sundays little "cock up" with fuel, have just got myself a 15" flat screen to run GTR2 PD on!!! fingers crossed this WILL help  Grin
