Moderator's Report

Sorry for the delay with this mod report. the original server replay was corrupted.

Server replay time: 0h03m15s

At T2 on second lap Tristan runs into the rear of Evil's car under braking. The resultant spin takes out Pete Bennet and Andreas Gebhardt.
Blatant rear end shunt.

Server replay time: 0h37m49s

Fran stayed right on the approach to Griffin's Bend to allow Tristan to lap him safely. Tristan chose to stay behind but the got too close and rear-ended Fran at the Cutting.
A bit of a misunderstanding but it is the responsibility of the following driver to make a clean pass, regardless of whether this is for a place or to lap someone.

Season 40 – 1968 LATE – Round 4 – Bathurst

Welcome to a new season of the 1968 Mod. A slight change in the format, we will use the 68 Late car set, not the Early. The track selection has a theme. The first 5 races will be held on Tasman series tracks from Australia & New Zealand. The second half of the season will be staged on tracks in the USA.

There is no handicapping but drivers will have a limited choice of chassis for each round. The cars are divided into 5 groups, each group will have cars of similar performance level. We start with Group V and work our way up to Group I and then repeat. Group I is the fastest cars available in Formula 1 for 1968.

The  third round takes place at the home of the Bathurst 1000 race, at Mount Panorama in New South Wales. You’ll be happy to learn that we are not doing the 161 laps used in the 1,000 km race.

The car set is Group III. Drivers may use any of the following cars but you will be required to use a different one for Race 8.

Matra MS11
McLaren M5A
Coopet T86b

Full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the season 40 general rules on the details.

Please read the specific rules for 68 series on the 1968 Early championship standings page.

ADVICE ON LAPPING. Some of the tracks in this series are short and narrow. The fastest drivers will be lapping backmarkers, perhaps more than once each race. For this year we have posted a multi-language guide to UKGPL rules on the Announcements page. This includes the etiquette for lapping. In summary the lapped car should remain on the racing line and avoid sudden or unexpected movements. To avoid holding up the lapping car the lapped driver can make way where safe to do so or gradually ease off the acceleration on a straight. Extra care should be taken by second or third lapping cars who may be closely following first lapping car.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

That was the scrappiest race I've had for a long time.

I ran into 4 or 5 of other peoples accidents, span off 3 times following other cars, span off by myself a few more times & got in other peoples way a couple of times whilst trying to get out of the way.

I don't think I caused any major inconvenience to anyone,  but one of those nights when I probably should just have parked the car & put the kettle on.

PS. Well done Paul - looks like you found your racing boots tonight.

What a horror!  Sad

Shunts aplenty and I caused one with Fulvio.  Sorry, mate.

Some apologies needed here.  First, to Fran for being obstinate in a pass attempt at T2.  I thought it was in the bag but the straight-line speed of the Matra was something to behold.  As a consequence, I arrived there thinking I had the place only to realize at the last instant that it was, at best, a dodgey move.  Sorry that it pushed you wide and cost you.  My bad.  Second, to Evil Clive for possibly taking away the bit of road he was counting on in the run up to T2.  I saw this Cooper in my mirrors moving left as I was planning to naturally do so for the approach to T2 only to realize too late that you may have been much closer to me than I thought.  I see by my replay cap that it all went horribly wrong for you.  Sorry.  Lastly, to Fulvio who had to put up with several of my braking errors including contact that sent you over the fence in a late lap.  I just couldn't modulate the brake pedal properly.  It's a 14-year old Logitech G25 and seems to be woefully obsolete.  I'd love to upgrade to a load cell arrangement but I'm certain that my old legs wouldn't be able to stand the full pressure on the pedal.

There were far too many incidents caused by bad driving in this race . I avoided the worst of it in the early laps but there were plenty more I didn't see . Just got settled in and starting to enjoy the race when Fabio decided to attack , his first two attempts failed when he ran wide attempting to pass at a speed were he never would have made the corner . His 3rd attempt was more succesful when he rammed me up the exhaust going into the last turn .
In frustration I hit the Esc button instead of S/R

Race over !

Have to say the standard of driving was abysmal , more like a Monza PU than what you might expect from UKGPL

I can't argue with that statement, Bernie.  Speaking solely of my own efforts, it was one of great personal embarrassment.  Sad

Including you : you rearended me on lap 2 (turn 2) with no real excuse like narrow track or blind turns !

I was caught in three big crashes :

- 1st lap when Bastian spun at the exit of the Dipper (?) and several cars were impacted : Phil, Tom, Fulvio, Paul, Francesco, me and all the following
- 2nd lap when Bernie rearended me on turn2. here again several cars crashed
- lap 6 when Tom spun at the Dipper

Maybe, standard of driving was bad  but on such narrow track with blind turns it is almost impossible to avoid incidents when the front car is spinning.

I've never imagined that i could stay on the lead for so long after the Lap 2 meat grinder, but i could  Grin and for a moment i thought the victory was at hand but Tristan on the final laps was really fast, and Pete too as he was immediately behind. I managed to keep a gap of 10 sec during the race and also catching the tow of the lapped cars on the long straight helped me for a while. The final 2 laps were really intese, great race, congrats guys  clap

The only thing i have to say is about the behaviour of Molteni when i was lapping him; it's not the first time that he races ignoring blue flags and this time i nearly crashed at Quarry as he was completely flat out on the mountain straight, even if i was 10 mt behind.  Huh

EDIT: the replay is avaiable ,i can't find?

I'm so sorry Bernie but I really wasn't trying to attack you: I didn't expect you were braking that early and I couldn't avoid you...  Undecided

You have lapped me at your lap 18 at Griffin bend without problem,so i can't understand where is the problem.

I made a great start from P3 to take Tris up the inside into T1. Fun for a lap with Tris and Evil but then a rear-end incident between those two took me off as well on L2, T2. I managed to get a quick Shift-R and then RACE ON. The Cooper was fun to dirve and very solid on the track. I could keep up with Tris and I was able to make good use of his tow. He popped an engine a few laps in and needed another Shift-R. Angex was soon in the mix and very hard to pass. Another near miss on L18 when Tris rear-ended Fran nearly took me out for a second time. Not sure how I missed the mess on the track. CG was getting close up ahead and I could have taken the P2 slot if we had just one more lap. I was tempted to make a risky move on the very last bend but I decided to take a solid third rather than risk us both going into the Australian outback over the fence. Great racing in the 68s again. I love 'em  Grin

Yes , was at Griffin Bend, not Quarry. However from my point of view we nearly crashed and you could let me pass safely on the straight. It's not the first time, in Sandown was the same and in that event i spun trying to lap you.I sent a report to understand Who Is in fault.
