Race Notes:
if you are familiar with player profile editing, you can set the game announce your every XX seconds how much race time is left:
Find from .PLR file Race Timer="0" line from [ Race Conditions ] block and replace the zero with amount of seconds between announcements. If you want to get note in every 5 minutes, 5 x 60 seconds = 300 --> replace the "0" with "300".
Also remember to remove it after the race, as game will keep announcing race time in all races even if the race would be just 2 laps in Mondello short.

Does the race length timer not work when offline?

I am not sure... I do recall testing it offline. If you set the value to 5 minutes, you should get first announcement in moment when the race start... Which reminds me that it does work offline, but as it is race timer, you need to be in race mode.
So fire up single player quick race with like 10 laps and you should see the race time left messages right from the start. Smiley

We are talking about two different things. You are talking about a setting in one of the UserData files (name.plr?). I'm talking about the onscreen, in race, "Time Remaining" section, which is inactive.

I'm guessing a lot of driver's (and new driver's) will not know about what to do in this format of race. Don't we need to have a secondary countdown, e.g. mobile phone timer?

And how does GTL know that the race has finished?

EDIT: This is what you said at Cadwell Park

Race:
Length 2 hours.
- lapcount set to redicilously high. Race ends when 2 hours is in clock and leading car crosses the start line
- Race starts at approx. 20:05 BST.

Race Notes:

Good questions. Smiley

I'm talking about the onscreen, in race, "Time Remaining" section, which is inactive.
I am not aware any way to get that working in GTL unfortunately. The PLR edit is only way to get in game information about the race end time.
Other alternative, non in game way, is use my affinity tool, in which you can set the progress display to show time or time that's still left. (in latter case, tool asks for the race length in minutes, so that it knows from where it is counting down when the race starts

And how does GTL know that the race has finished?
GTL rans the race until the given lap count or race time length is reached. For the race time length it always uses the value in .GDB file  (which each track has included). If "RaceTime=" line is not given there, GTL expects it to be 180 minutes. So that's why we are always using custom version of the track, in which I have set the "RaceTime" to correct length. I also set the lapcount so high that there's no way it could be reached before we run out of race time.

I'll add the race time announcer information to the race invitation. Somehow forgot to add it.

hiho,

Do I see that correctly, the race start is at 22:05 /10p.m. according to German time? That would then unfortunately too late for me  Shocked

Glück auf!

Are the physics of these cars different to those that we raced here in 2019? I ask because, if not I need to find out why I am 12-13s a lap slower in the Abarth 1000 than I was in 2019.

PS: Just looking back through the old threads, it appears that the physics for these cars have been redone since 2019, so that probably accounts for the cars being much slower than they were back then.

I'm thinking that the reason I had such a poor race at Imola in the Imp was that I applied a setup from last year and the physics have been redone on that car also.....Felt much better here when I had a go at the weekend, but I just used the default with a couple of tweaks to it instead of my setup from last year....

Edit, just checked the laptimes from 2019 Geoffers was referring to, not sure the Imp will go under the 5.30 mark....

Not sure Daz, but I think the physics was redone before the 2021 season, so the Imp is unchanged from last year, could be wrong though!

Had a 5:44 yesterday in the Imp.
MichaW was around 5:30 in the Simca1000.
So a 5:30 could be realistic for the Imp in the right hands too.   Tongue

Maybe I'll try another car later.

yep, the changes from last year were quite minimal. Division ½ had some fuel consumption and tank size adjustments, some small tire tweaking and Bellett gained 2 more final gears. (But let's not forget 3 new cars added to roster. Smiley )

for the 2021 season Division 1 got a bigger rewamp.

For example,
In 2020 the Abarth 1000 TCR reference Zolder AI lap time was 1:56.378 and in 2021 reference Zolder AI Lap time for same car was 1:59.022. All the others in Div 1 were slowed down about the same.
In 2019-2020 the cars were running unrealistic small coeffient drag values, some had too little weight, etc. To put it simply: I got better making physics between the 2019 and 2021. Smiley
