Season 40 – CanAM – Round 8 – Montjuic V2

This track was a street circuit on Montjuic mountain above Barcelona. A twisty tricky circuit, it was the site of the tragic 1975 Spanish Grand Prix. Many drivers felt that the circuit was unsafe, and two time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi withdrew in protest before the start of the race. On lap 26 the Embassy Hill-Lola car of Rolf Stommelen left the track, killing five people. The race was subsequently stopped at half distance and half points awarded, with Jochen Mass being recorded as the winner. Lella Lombardi became the first female driver to score world championship points, taking 0.5 points for 6th place. Formula One never returned to the circuit after the accident.

Absent. Real life has got in the way. Have fun.

Update: Real life changed so that meant I could race :

Damn. Qualified and then missed the start as I went back to the pits to select the correct setup. No GREEN button on my return Sad

Unlucky Pete. You should have been able to start from the pit lane if you had waited for about 30 seconds.

I've not driven GPL for what seems weeks now but I had an opportunity to race tonight so I took it. I decided to try to drive carefully which paid off. Only one mistake the whole race which was the key to a good result. N ice racing with Fulvio and Doni (and Axel for a few laps) but Yannick and Tris were in a class of their own. I regarded not being lapped by them a major success for me  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Had made a stupid last second setup change in the wrong direction...
So the car got undriveable with warm tyres.

Who missed the ROLLING START?  Roll Eyes

I had a nice race, only one spin at T5, the same place that Phil did some laps later, so we ended like we started. Smiley

Not too much to tell from my side.  I wound the Porsche up as tight as I dared and wasn't even close to the lead serial.

I suffered a mean shunt in an early lap of qualifying.  Stuffed it proper into the end of the pit lane guardrail at about 130mph.  OUCH!

On the grid, I caught sight of Pete for a split second before he vanished.  Dear me...  I don't believe that he could have started from the pits, Phil.  Once you're on the grid and leave for whatever reason, you're done for the day.

Not for the first time, our roller start gets buggered with Bot storming off from P2 on the grid and ramping it up to full speed immediately.  Sigh...  What penalty is going to be applied here?  I suggested previously a one minute time penalty for such a thing which is not without precedent.  If this doesn't earn a penalty, what will?  I posted a grid layout to employ in our last CanAm71 race thread.  Single file right from the get-go.  An easy copy/paste job.  Even if you can't be bothered to read the GCR's for the event, at least when you go to the grid and see all cars in single file, you just have to know that it's a roller start.  I just tested it here offline and it worked fine.

The field rapidly disappeared up the road and I had a lonely race til being lapped.  Only spot of drama was Lap22 when I pulled over for Yannick on exit of T1 and as he positioned to pass, he hit the gas a little too hard and spun across my bow.  A hefty collision sent Yannick around but I managed to continue without significant damage.  Quite a fright, though.  Glad to see that Yannick got straightened away and carried on for the win.  Wound off the remaining laps and happy to finish on this difficult circuit.

From season rules page:
ROLLING STARTS
POLE Driver: The driver on POLE should ensure they drive as close to but do not exceed 100Mph (160Kmh). They should drive at an EVEN PACE before the designated race start point ("red line"). Where speeding is deemed to have gained an unfair advantage, a 15 second penalty will be added to the pole driver's total race time.

ALL Drivers: NO OVERTAKING before the POLE Driver has crossed the "red line". Any contacts between cars before the "red line" will not be considered a "racing incident" and will be moderated accordingly. Keep your distance.

Position and standing haven't been corrected after moderation.

Phil is aware and looking at finding the solution.
