Phil braked too late at T8 and rear ended Andreas. Fortunately both drivers can continue. Blatant Rear End Shunt. Phil loses a podium finish.

Season 40 – 1968 LATE – Round 9 – Road America

Round eight of the 1968 Late series Road America near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
The track covers 640 acres (2.6 km2) within Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine. It currently hosts over 400 events a year. Road America has not been modified and retains its original configuration of 4.048 miles (6.515 km) in length and consisting of 14 turns. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds approaching 200 mph (320 km/h) may be reached.

There is no handicapping but drivers will have a limited choice of chassis for each round. The cars are divided into 5 groups, each with similar performance level. We start with Group V and work our way up to Group I and then repeat. Group I is the fastest cars available in Formula 1 for 1968.

The car set is Group II. Drivers may use any of the following cars APART FROM THE ONE YOU USED IN RACE 4 AT ARDMORE AERODROME.

Honda RA301
Eagle T1G
Matra MS10

Full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the season 40 general rules on the details.

Please read the specific rules for 68 series on the 1968 Late championship standings page.

ADVICE ON LAPPING. Some of the tracks in this series are short and narrow. The fastest drivers will be lapping backmarkers, perhaps more than once each race. For this year we have posted a multi-language guide to UKGPL rules on the Announcements page. This includes the etiquette for lapping. In summary the lapped car should remain on the racing line and avoid sudden or unexpected movements. To avoid holding up the lapping car the lapped driver can make way where safe to do so or gradually ease off the acceleration on a straight. Extra care should be taken by second or third lapping cars who may be closely following first lapping car.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Paul - confusion is down to my error in the race announcement.
Reference to the 68 Early Championship should read "68 Late" - now corrected.
Race 4 used the Group II carset. As you did not participate in the race you can use the MS10.

Great race but apologies to Andreas for the tap on lap 1. I wasn't sure that I'd made contact (or with who but I thought it was Andreas) because things happen so fast in these cars but it was on my mind for the rest of the first lap and consequently I ran out of road on the last corner.  I lost a few places and re-joined and tried to forget about the mistake and focus on the race. I had set my wings with 11 front and 11 rear which made my car great on the corners but a bit vulnerable on the straights. However, this set up great battles with Bastian and Fulvio who were both running a bit less wing than me. It was a game of cat and mouse, great driving gents. Thanks for the fun.

On the GPL setup page for the transmission, you will find the wing settings just above the gear ratios. The Eagle is set for 5 degrees front and rear as standard, so you will have had some wing  Wink Maybe you should try a can of Red Bull  Grin

Great race, but too many little mistakes by me couldn't avoid great back up by Phil. When I set 4th in Q with 5-5 wings and race fuel didn't try any change on wings. Was better I had to. When Phil catched me he was a torpedo on brakes and turns. In the end I had the chance to pass him at two laps to go, but again a little wide and he got by. At last lap braking for T1 I went tooooooo deep and wide, so I lost the last chance to keep up with him and try to pass on the straights  Embarrassed
Anyway we had some exciting two-wide without contacts  Cool

Do you think it is useful to have front wing values in the setup, as these cars don't have front wings ?

Maybe on some pictures, but in game they have working front wings  Wink
