That was a seriously fun race. For me it was like snakes and ladders - one step forward 2 steps back! Eventually found a groove for my overweight Alpine and managed to get a few decent laps in but it was all too late to make any ground on Stu even tho he had eased off!

Again had some really interesting side by side action fighting back up (twice!) but that damn left kink kept on shuffling the pack (from what I could see)! - caught everyone out a few times!!

Sorry to hear your luck again Dave! That really stinks, but do stick with it m8! (minus add-ons Cheesy )

Well my first UKGTL race was a little dull, no close fights, after the start the guys ahead pulled away, I pulled away from the cars behind, big gaps all round.

I saw Simon, Ruskus and Pribeiro getting closer and assumed they were slowing due to close fighting, not horsing around(!!) but once Simon had his accident and took out Pribeiro (that was a surprise, finding two upside down cars in the middle of the track) Ruskus just disappeared.....

I haven't raced on a street track with walls since the original Microprose Grand Prix (Phoenix Raceway!) so I was somewhat paranoid about hitting the walls with an oversteery moment, set my car up with a very conservative 50/50 diff, way way too much understeer, couldn't get the thing turned in quickly, or power on early enough.  But with such a conservative setup, I barely made a mistake, clipped the inside wall on the final corner a couple of times, that was it.  Still, slightly disappointing speed (I'm sure I could have been in the 17s at least with a more aggressive setup, but 15s, man, how do some of you guys do it Huh), at least I finished though. Smiley

I managed to learn the track better as the race went on, found some slightly better lines, particularly through the last few corners, did my 3 or 4 fastest laps after lap 20, even though car was getting looser with tyre wear.

Quite enjoyed the rolling start, never done that before, although it means I missed out on my usual blistering start - on the public servers I usually make up 3-4 places every start (does everyone use auto-clutch or something, never figured why I can get better starts).  But fantastic to see everyone get through the first corner cleanly and get a proper race.

I'll definitely be back for more!

Shows what I remember....I didn't do lots of quick laps at the end Cheesy  All got a bit hazy as I got tired, and hot!

I meant to ask, but didn't want to break the no-chat in qually rule:  When qualifying started I lost most of the racing line textures.  There was just a little patch of tyre marks around where the braking zone started, no black mark all the way into the corner, which I'd been using as a visual braking marker.

Before joining practice I'd lowered the shader level from DX9 to DX7 to get good frame rates (low-end system, old vid card) so I assumed something went wrong with the shader moving from one session to the next. Exited, re-entered the server and looking for the racing line again as I came out of the pits I forgot I couldn't be seen, and although I stayed to one side someone ploughed into me at speed - really sorry to anyone who suddenly hit an invisible car just after pit exit!

I left the game again and re-started GTL with DX8 shaders, same problem.  Made it hard for a while to judge braking until I located other visual cues.

Anyone else get that? Huh

Unfortunately this happens a fair bit with the addon tracks when it goes from one session to another and never comes back till the server or race is restarted, and no it's not just you.

I must admit I'm usually horrified when they go, but I can't say I really noticed it being a big hinderance at Trois, I guess I was using other things as braking markers.

Most people are rubbish at standing starts. I also usually make up a few places even in good league like this on a standing start due to being quite good at them. I use auto-clutch too.

I'll definitely be back for more!

Fabulous! Look forward to seeing you at the next race.

Not a bad track at all -  i quite enjoyed this race, although i had lost all force feedback on my wheel, and didn't have time to check it out properly before the race start.
Had a good battle with Jonza in the red Healy, but lost it on a few turns, with teh back end of the Alpine sliding out under braking.
Did anyone else have low frame rate issues on the s/f pit strait?

Just rebuilt my system, and thought it would be more than adequate to deal with GTL/GTR2 now, but FPS was dropping into the 40's in this area of the track...?

40's is quite high, isn't it? If I'm not mistaken TV's operate with 25 FPS.

50 - but they show alternate sets of lines each frame so you only get a full picture's worth of pixels every 1/25s. Interlacing is a very silly system. Cheesy

Cinema is 24 - but you can see the frames when large parts of the picture move.

Wink I'll try and persuade him, I think he's away this weekend  though.
He was a bit gutted about his race though...........especially as I kept reminding him about mine!!!  Cheesy
If he does do one, please watch it as he thinks no-one bothers 'cos the race will be about a week old when he finally does one.
Still smiling about our duel Jeff, marvellous.  Grin

Yes, so I wouldn't think you need any more than 30, and 25 should be acceptable IMPOV Wink

30 isn't really enough for simracing where there's a lot of fast motion - 40 probably is but it's critical that it's smooth and consistent. Once the frame rate starts dipping regularly - even if it's only by 10 - it's much harder to consistently control the car.
