Lap 18 – Ramshoek – Doni Yourth and Tristan Bot
Tristan is leading in the fast Chaparral Mk2D and is chasing down Doni in the little Alfa Romeo. He is about to lap him. Tristan is being chased by second placed Greg but he has a safe gap back to the Lola with only a couple of corners to go before the finish. Doni exits Meeuwenmeer and stays on the racing line which traverses from the left hand to the right hand side of the track. Tristan tries to overtake on the right hand side, but the gap narrows and contact is made.

Doni should have known he was about to be lapped and could have stayed left to give Tristan a clear run. However, the etiquette guidelines advise a driver to hold their line to avoid confusion and only move off the racing line to facilitate a pass if the manoeuvre will not be misunderstood. However, the guidelines also state that once a lapping driver is alongside, the lapped driver most not move over.

Tristan tried to overtake at the earliest opportunity. With only two corners to go and a decent gap to the following car, he could have taken his time. It would have been prudent to wait until Doni had either clearly moved off the racing line to facilitate a pass or had maintained the racing line into Ramshoek. In which case an overtaking attempt on the inside into Ramshoek would have been the most obvious option.

Neither driver is solely responsible for this incident. Tristan was not alongside when Doni started to move over. Doni could have stayed left. Tristan could have given Doni a wide berth instead of trying to squeeze past. On balance this has to be a racing incident, no malice or inconsiderate driving was intended.

Racing incident.

Season 40 - SC67 Cup – Round 9 - Assen  1967

The 9th round of the SCX Season 40 will be held at Assen in the Netherlands. Assen has a long history of motor racing. The first event, a motorcycle race, was held in 1925 on country roads through the villages of Rolde, Borger, Schoonloo and Grolloo.  Between 1926 and 1954, the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race, was held on the Van Drenthe circuit. This was a 10.27 miles street circuit through De Haar, Barteldsbocht, Oude Tol, Hooghalen, Laaghalen and Laaghalerveen. In 1955 a new purpose built track was inaugurated which was shorter than the original but at 6.049 miles it was still a long track by modern standards. Over the years the track has been through numerous modifications which have changed its length each time. The 1967 version we are using tonight is 4.8 miles long.  Although more famous for motorcycle racing, the track has been used for car racing (BOSS GP, Champ Car, DTM and several junior classes) but never for Formula 1.

Please check the Season 40 details regarding rules and the SCX Cup pages in particular.
In order to add an element of realism, and to hopefully reduce the possibility of rear-end incidents, the brake light patch will be used  eek

Dead tired as I post this.  Immediately following our race, I wolfed down some dinner then joined my two boys in the arduous task of washing and waxing the Subaru Legacy before sundown.  UGH!

Only two things of note.  A monumental collision with Fulvio just after the bridge only moments after the start.  Took me completely by surprise as nowhere did he show in my mirrors and never thought that he could be alongside.  Sorry, Fulvio.  Astonished that the little Alfa bounced back onto its wheels enabling me to continue but miles behind.  Coming up to start my last lap, Bot caught me just before the final chicane and chose the wrong side to make a pass attempt.  I wouldn't have even bothered to try that with the finish line less than a km away.  You were in no danger from Greg.  Sorry for the contact, Bot.

Assen is a fun track in these cars, it has something for all of them. Twisty bits, fast bits, and in between.
But I was still on the back foot compared to Tristan and Greg due to my low top speed. Due to this Pete also got by at the start. I think I got lucky things went wrong behind me or I would have lost more places.
I knew Pete wasn't going to keep up with them so I need to get by quickly. Down at Strubben I was right behind him, but misjudged the speed difference in the corner and sent him in a spin. Sad

This may have hurt me even more so as I already lost tow to Greg and Tristan who just went off, leaving me in a lonely third place.
After some laps it appeared Greg lost it somewhere as I was back in his tow and my lap times were dropping. I was gradually reeling him in until he himself got the tow back from Tristan.
So he, on his turn, was also going faster, and it was just too much for my underpowered Porsche to get close.

In the last lap it became very clear I was going to finish third, until in the final sector Tristan got into contact with Doni and lose the lead. He still rejoined ahead of me, but then also lost it in the final corner.
In order to avoid his spinning Chaparral I had to give the big scare to the people in the pits. But somehow I still ended up finishing second.

One more race left, and still four people having a shot at the title? Spa is going to be something else...

Hi all Smiley
...well ....I had to do the best result possible here in Assen if I wanted to keep the best chance for the Champ. not a easy thing with the fast guys ... I was feeling comfortable with my car , take a good start and try to press Greg ....I can take the lead, except for some laps , the gap was always very close ...all go well , Greg was close but not really in a good position to overtake me ...then come the last lap , I am 20/30 m in front ... I push to don't give any opportunity to Greg ...then, I saw Yourth who is last, I hope he will rapidly let all doors open ....but no !? I'm afraid  I have to slow down and that Greg catch me in the last straight line before the finish line ..... so , I start to overtake Yourth in this last straight but he drive just like the track is his , hit me when I was side by side ...off course I fly off track, lost the victory and the second place also !! ...I ask him :"wtf Huh "...he said :" it's my line " ...!!!!....what to answer to that ? ...Yourth you don't have Pribluda , you don't have mirrors , you don't see blue flag , you don't care to what append around you , you are alone in your car on your line !!....what a gentleman ( supposed to have a great experience in sim racing ! ) who , dead last in the race just screw up the mess in the race of others !....
Of course if you read his post, it's my fault ...lol !...I have choice the bad side !!! ( Yourth need all the track !! ).... I was not in danger with Greg !???... ( Yourth know every thing ! ...but only after seen the replay !).....
I don't care that you are sorry, you are an hypocritical and you are not sorry at all !...and sadly for you, not able to recognize the shit you done !...

I have already apologized for the unfortunate and unintentional contact, Bot.  I hadn't realized you were that close and coming that fast.  Perhaps if you abandoned the silly F10/Chase view participation, you'd have a better read on situations.

Yourth, with the F10 view I CAN SEE all my car and also my live environment , then I can see your car all along the action unlike you !... ... so ( advice for advice ) perhaps you should drive F10 and with Pribluda you will know exactly where you will be passed by the leader ! ....
....and I don't believe you .... if it had been Robert F., you would had have another behaviour !...but you knew it was me .....

Thx Axel Wink.... I have to precise one thing , at the beginning of the last lap , Greg is 20 m behind me ,then I am not focus on Pribluda but only on my driving to don't let any opportunity to Greg .... and hope I can overtake Yourth with any difficulty Smiley   !.....I did'not know that Greg do a little mistake and loose around 150/200m ( I don't watch Prib at each turn to see where is Greg , and I'm not counting on a Greg mistake! ) I see that when I   see the replay !... you mention the fact that I knew I had a sufficient advance but I as said , I did not know .... what about Yourth who know that the first ones are coming since more than one lap ?!... and he never give a sign that he will let me pass , he never slow down at any moment...just fellow his line full gaz !?...he takes the whole track !...he should see me !...he also knows where the championship is Smiley   ....I know a few riders who would rather get off the track then interfere with the race of the first to play for the championship at 2 races of the end !...
....Of course I accept the moderation even if I don't agree Wink...
