Season 40 – 1969 extra Mod – Boreham Airfield

Let's try our fastest F1 mod on this wide track  Roll Eyes

GPL member Pete Bennett has invested a chunk of his personal time to create a brand new track.
This is a real track (at least until it was built over) converted from a British airfield in the late 1940’s and saw a few years racing into the early 50’s.
The track is now on public release – as per the link below.

Boreham Airfield gets its maiden 69Xtra GPL race this Tuesday.

Simple handicapping rule – fast drivers should not take a car with a Cosworth DFV engine

Can someone check the 69X mod with the AI at this track, please. I get CTD and can't find the culprit. Perhaps it's just my machine.

Thanks.

NP here, do you use the 60fpsV1 patch (ai)?

Yep, tried 36fps and v1 and v2 60fps. This is on my son's Windoze machine. I have to reinstall on my Linux rig as I don't currently have 69X mod installed.

I'll let you know. Good to see it working for you, Cookie.

Got it going on both machine. Deleted 69X.exe and let GEM rebuild it. All good now. See you on track tomorrow.

Weirdest thing for me is I could get on the ukgpl server this evening to test the track with 69x and 60fpsV1 no problem

But try it any way you like for offline racing and can only enter for training,  every other combination of 60fps patch gives me a CTD or instant return to GEM.

Will keep trying.

Pete,

Didn't mention it sorry, but did that twice. And went back to the original track install without any of the new updates like oil drums and Bapom stuff.

Still the same.  Can race online at 60fps v1 but only 36fps offline at present.

But still loving it  Cool

Blew up the Repco early on after having some fun showing some of the winged Cossie boys my tail pipes.  Smiley

A bit tired so called it a day.  Track ran fine with no glitches.

I think it is safe to say that this track is a winner for all of the mods....just the 55's to try now  Wink.

It has been a long time since I drove the 69x's in anger and I dragged out my favourite Brabham setup, which with a few tweaks felt good. As quali progressed I was finding where I could push a little harder AND where to keep things neat and tidy, especially the final hairpin with that "wall of champions" on the exit. Whoever put that there was a masochistic genius lol. Exactly where a driver might try to pinch an extra metre of track widthg to speed up the exit !!!

Almost got alongside the Boreham Boffin off the grid but just could not quite force the issue, so I had to tuck in behind and wait with Andreas breathing down my neck. With these cars, and all the downforce, outbraking an opponent is very difficult. Almost any pass requires a mistake from the car ahead, and so it was when I put two wheels onto the grass and gave Andreas the chance to take P2.
With the slipstream it was easy for Andreas and myself to stay with Pete and we steadily pulled a gap to the cars behind. Then a combination of the draft and Andreas braking a little more than I expected for Hanger Bend ( I was taking that flat in 4th ) resulted in a small tap sending Andreas skywards  oops

I waited for him whilst Pete scampered into the sunset never to be seen again until the chequered flag. Axel passed us and there was a 3 way dice until Andreas ran wide and I was chasing Axel for 2nd spot. I used me pace through Hanger Bend to take me alongside Axel into T2 and make the pass, but then Axel appeared to lose pace? and I slowly eased away to complete a rather lonely last 10 laps . I did manage the fastest lap, but there were mistakes on every lap and if ( big IF!!) I could hook up a perfect lap I think a 1:20 is possible, maybe even quicker on low fuel.

Thanks again Pete. Already looking forward to your next project  Wink

Clive, the "Wall of Champions" was not my idea...
