Season 40 – 1966 Mod – Goodwood

Something to keep you occupied during the mid-season break.

This race is at Goodwood, which is situated near Chichester, West Sussex, close to the south coast of England, on the estate of Goodwood House. The circuit is and for an accident that finished the career of Stirling Moss. In 1962, Stirling was competing in the International 100 race for Formula One cars when, towards the end of the race, he was attempting to pass Graham Hill’s BRM V8 on the outside of Fordwater bend when his car shot onto the grass and struck a low bank protecting spectators.

Goodwood was closed to competitive racing in 1966 but has been beautifully preserved and used for  the annual "Goodwood Revival" Historic car meeting.

The is version of the track remodelled by Ginetto – Goodwood 65. We will be using the 1966 F1 cars.

Simple handicapping rule – Pro standard drivers should take a 2 litre car. Ams drivers have a free choice.

ENJOY

OUCH!  My brain hurts.  Sad

Fun stuff at Goodwood in the little Lotus.  Andreas was putting his stamp on the race early with a fine drive.  Last I saw, he was well clear and heading for a solid win.

My first lap was rather scruffy with a wheel in the dirt at Fordwater and then again at St. Mary's.  On the exit, I squeezed old buddy, Jonny, off onto the grass.  Take that, JJ!   Smiley

Got into a fierce battle with Phil with only just enough pace to hold him off.  Soon joined by Clive and thought it wouldn't be long before he was through.  Put up a fight nonetheless but the weaving nature of Lavant Straight got us too close together with a collision resultant.  Sorry, Clive.  I went for a Moon Shot.

I was a great battle Doni. Pity it ended early for you. It isn't easy to get past here, I got along side a couple of times but I backed out to avoid contact. I was right behind you and Clive when you crashed. Once Clive was on the grass it was always going to end in tears. After that it was a lonely race. Grats to Andreas on a fine drive and to Jonny and Billy for finishing.

It was fun, the track is detailed to the max! Great immersion! But for my PC it costs some bad points for FPS , 19 in some points Sad
In the race I was unfamiliar with my heavy McLaren and I needed to ride cautiously in front of the agile 2.5L.
I did I think 4 rounds on the grass and it cost me a lot of time , but as there was no damage , I managed to go all the way .
  Andrea was irresistible!

Great track with several corners that you can really slide the cars. I didn’t have the pace to match the lead cars but Johnny was only about 1 sec a lap faster & with several trips to the grass meant that I had another car to keep things interesting.
Oddly, I could not get a decent lap time from the 3L cars so ended up taking the 2.7 L Brabham.

I'm sorry that I had to leave early. I managed about 10 laps and had about as many spins. Too hot to concentrate at the time. Such a great track though. Grats to all finishers especially to Andreas for the hat-trick.
