Moderator's Report

Sorry for the delay in publishing the moderation report. This closes off teh 1968 Championship for Season 40. The race was won by Tom Johnson with Phil Thorton & Fulio crossing the line in 2nd & 3rd with barely a whisker between them.
The Championship goes to Tritsan with victories in 7 out 10 races. Second and third were close between Fulvio and Andreas.

Server replay time: 0h01m41s

Part way through the first lap there is a coming together between Andreas and Bastian. Other drivers were caught in the wreckage. The view on the server replay shows a clear distance between the cars at the point of contact when both travelling at very similar speeds. This is judged as a warp incident, although this is a risk that occurs where cars are traveling at close quarters on a trajectory that will bring them together.

Season 40 – 1968 LATE – Round 10 – Lime Rock Mountain

The final round of the 1968 Late series will be held at Lime Rock Mountain Park. The extension was planned in 1957 and while trees were chopped down in preparation, the actual paved track was never built. A pity, because it would've been an excellent track, on the level of the full Watkins Glen. The Mountain circuit incorporates many of the original features but the longer lap has a few more challenging corners, longer straights and provides an opportunity for the faster cars to unleash their power.

There is no handicapping but drivers will have a limited choice of chassis for each round. The cars are divided into 5 groups, each with similar performance level. We start with Group V and work our way up to Group I and then repeat. Group I is the fastest cars available in Formula 1 for 1968.

The car set is Group I. Drivers may use any of the following cars APART FROM THE ONE YOU USED IN RACE 5 AT PUKEHOKE.

Ferrari 312
Lotus49/49b
Brabham BT26
Mclaren M7A

Full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the season 40 general rules on the details.

Please read the specific rules for 68 series on the 1968 Late championship standings page.

ADVICE ON LAPPING. Some of the tracks in this series are short and narrow. The fastest drivers will be lapping backmarkers, perhaps more than once each race. For this year we have posted a multi-language guide to UKGPL rules on the Announcements page. This includes the etiquette for lapping. In summary the lapped car should remain on the racing line and avoid sudden or unexpected movements. To avoid holding up the lapping car the lapped driver can make way where safe to do so or gradually ease off the acceleration on a straight. Extra care should be taken by second or third lapping cars who may be closely following first lapping car.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Good luck tonight my fellow gentlemen racers.

I like this track, really good fun and I've come to like the 68s too.

I hope all goes well for the boys that are fighting for the championship.

See you tonight.

Lol.... looking forwards to that.

I think after i settled down i must have easily improved my pb.. was having some great fun with Pete.  Great close fun mate.

Then out of the blue marches in the wife, standing over me talking about something !!!
Put me right off, and i lost concentration and control.

Luckily of the car and not myself. So that was the end of my race... doh.

It wasnt even anything important.   Lol.

Heres to next season.

That was my most hectic race of the season. In the early laps I had Tristan's orange McLaren all over my gearbox like an angry wasp until I made a mistake on about lap 6 and he was through. A couple of laps later he made a mistake and gifted the place back to me. So I then had to work very hard to catch Fulvio and we had a very intense battle over the last few laps (at one point we were side by side through several corners with no contact). I think Fulvio missed a gear which allowed me to pull a tiny gap which I held onto until the flag. It was very close. I think I had slightly more wing than Fulvio. I couldn't pass him on the straight, but he managed to draft past me.

Grats to Tom on a flawless drive to victory. Unlucky Tris, I think the Brabhams had just a bit too much for the McLaren.

I really like these cars, they are great fun.

Not my finest Sad

I had a Lotus with initial understeer followed by severe snap-oversteer. It was like fighting a rabid dog. Still, no excuse for my collisions with Andreas and Billy. So sorry chaps, I hope I didn't wreck your evening. Paul, you were pretty hard to pass, you're getting quicker each time out.

I like the 68 cars and I hope that they can return in the not too distant future.

A combination of a fun track and great cars. Using the default set ups some 68 cars do have a tendancy to snap. I've managed to find a set-up to dial that out.
As usual I was a few seconds off the frontrunners. I made a few places with people spinning off on lap one but gave them  back on the haybales. I though I might be able to close up on Paul but he was steadily pulling away until Mrs V called him in for a pit stop. Both Clive & Pete were struggling with their handling which enabled me to have a few tracing laps with them - kept things entertaining.
No problem wit the contact Pete, I was confused about where you were (when Prib says 0 yards) and I think I might have wandered off line.
Looks like an epic race for the podium places.

Thanks to all for taking part in this series. Just a few moderations to finish up.
