Moderator's Report

Drivers are reminded that if it's raining, you should be running with lights on.

I've talked in the past about the dangers of overdriving. In this particular race, I watched Maurice Claessen run wide about 20% of the time, and go off far too often. I don't expect anyone to never go off or make a mistake, but it's essential that you attempt to drive within your personal limits; paddling a car out of the gravel traps every five laps is frustrating for you and dangerous for other drivers.

Server replay time: 200s

Just when I was starting to think we'd got the hang of rolling starts, we have a big smash at the start line.

Maurice Claessen who is leading the pace lap starts to accelerate well before the line, but the real culprit is Tazman who comes out of the last corner and immediately passes a whole bunch of cars. There is then a chain reaction with a whole load of cars having to stand on the anchors, which causes Oilseal to ram into the back of aajay_uk, [Zip]Tyf joining the fun. Gerald nearly joins in too.

  • mclaessen (Maurice Claessen)warning — premature acceleration on the pace lap
  • Tazmanpenalty — going on the pace lap before the driver in front went — 0 places lost

Server replay time: 284s

Tazman spins off out of turn 12. He rejoins, drifting lazily across the track as most of the rest of the field come past - they do well to miss him, Gerald taking to the grass to avoid contact.

As this is the first racing lap, it would normally be an additional place lost over the normal three, but since nobody actually hits him, and since he does appear to be at least trying to get out of the way, I've reduced it to just two places.

In this situation, it's best to remain stationary and/or off track and use the look behind/left/right functions to see if it's safe to rejoin. This gives everyone else the greatest chance to avoid you. Once you do rejoin, in most circumstances you should not attempt to cross to the other side of the track, even to get off the racing line, because again it makes you very unpredictable and hard to avoid.

  • Tazmanpenalty — dangerous rejoin — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 325s

Jamera has a huge moment in turn 12 and Dave Gymer gets more than halfway alongside on the inside into New Holland. Jamera turns in on Dave and there's contact but they both continue without damage or spinning, so as a result the normal penalty (three places on the first racing lap) is reduced.

  • Jamerapenalty — contact with Dave Gymer — 1 place lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Server replay time: 352s

Popabawa gets half a car length ahead of Jamera on the inside of Elf, but Jamera turns in on him and there is contact. Although neither car spun or was badly damaged, and despite Jamera not losing the place, the full penalty must apply because this is the second such incident in the space of less than 30 seconds.

  • Jamerapenalty — contact with Popabawa — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Server replay time: 400s

Jamera gets caught out under braking for Wurth and runs into the back of Popabawa, who brakes very early compared to his normal braking point, and is very slow mid-corner. Jamera comes off far worse, losing a place to Shark in the Z3M, so I'm only going to issue a caution.

  • Jameracaution — rear ending Popabawa

Server replay time: 1400s

Zacari has just left the pits on fresh but cold wet tyres; he applies to much power on the exit of Repsol and spins into the back of Michael Cooper, spinning both out.

  • Zacariadvice — be careful on cold tyres, especially when near other cars

Server replay time: 1403s

Maurice Claessen's Saleen has run wide at La Caixa, allowing Popabawa's GT3-RS to lap him. Pops runs wide in Turn 12 and Maurice sees it as an opportunity to unlap himself, but doesn't leave Popabawa enough room to recover without going off and makes contact.

Maurice only had himself to blame for going off at La Caixa and forcing another driver off the road after they had made a lesser mistake was needlessly agressive. However, because there was some ambiguity in the situation, I'm reducing the penalty to a single place.

Server replay time: 1475s

Tazman has gone off at Wurth, and rejoins up the hill only to spin again as he tries to apply some power. He rejoins again and drives very slowly across the track towards the apex of Campsa before retiring just as Dave Gymer arrives.

Dave starts going to the right to avoid him, but Tazman continues to move, and being hard on the brakes Dave can't jink to the left and would've made contact - it was pure luck that Tazman hit escape just as Dave was about to crash into him.

Much like Taz's earlier off at 284s, having decided to rejoin, the one thing you must not do is cross the track with cars approaching. They stand very little chance of avoiding you.

  • Tazmanwarning — bad (aborted) rejoin

Server replay time: 1510s

Maurice has run off in La Caixa; as Popabawa approaches Maurice applies too much throttle and spins right across Popa's path.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 3639s

aajay_uk has a slow, lazy spin in Banc Sabadell and Popabawa can't quite squeeze past on the inside, spinning out as he clip's aajay's nose.

  • Racing incident

I was hoping before the season started that the Endurance championships would run on the same night at the same time every week, rather than being alternate, but presumeably hosting both on one server proved problematic?

Yes, we would have done this, if it werent for the GTR server problems.
Picnic spent quite a while trying to get this to work but eventually conceeding that despite Simbins claims, running multiple servers is problematic especially in a league environment where replays and exports are needed.

I'm just glad we've got a server and admins who give time to make the league work, given how buggy the game is online it must be v. frustrating work!

Looks like I should be able to have a punt tonight!

If I can get a reserve slot, I'll be driving NGT.

Well, I had loads of problems,  I managed to start in 8th and I think I messed up the starting procedure so sorry to anyone I pissed off, I'll be checking the rules before the next race (my first time) was in 6th by the 1st corner, all was going well until I spun.

After that, handling went pants, had 2 punctures and a stop/go then my bloody wife tapped me on the shoulder and I crashed again.

After that I decided to leave.

Looking forward to the next event and hoping to actually finish it this time.

I reckon I have to be the worst wet weather driver in rain compared to dry, just absolutely dire, i can't seem to tell when im locked or not, when its going to grip in a corner or not, how to unlock the wheels when they are. about the only think i can do is get the power down without spinning. even then i think im slow coz the back end is wobbling all over the place.   :'(

I hate rain.

i hate the rain too.....then i was amazed to be p2 for the start.great start leaving p3 behind by a good margin, then about lap 3 i found myself leading.....settled in to a good safe rythmn with some in reserve and to  try to maintain the gap to 2nd, which was going great till i ran a little wide on the exit of the last turn about 12 laps in.got stuck on the kerb and eventually got free only yo find myself well down the order.started chasing and i chased too hard and bust the splitter...damn..then i just fell to pieces..should have stayed in the hunt but i was so pissed off at myself that i got in a right state and ended the fury i had at myself by quitting out....i asked my wife to beat me severly, but she refused....so i'm off to the shed to beat myself up :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Grin

great to be racing for real now though
looking forward to magny cours

Wow that was tiring - span off a few times and whacked a BMW who seemed to be having game issues - but managed to get home fourth and closing in fast on third.

First time I have driven in the wet in GTR so well pleased to finish and to finish in the points.

Good fun !!!

Thanks for a great race guys. First ever podium position, two weeks worth of practice paid off, although none of it had been in the wet. Quickly modified my dry race set up before the start, seemed to work reasonably well. Full fuel load thinking of going flag to flag without a pitstop, but chickened out about three quarter of the way through and pitted. Looking at fuel left at the end probably didn't need to have done, doubt it would have made much difference to my finishing position.

What happened at the start? Everybody started to accelerate and then brake lights everywhere, managed to avoid rear-ending the lambo but got hit by the following saleen. From 10th on the grid to second from last before the race even started, still makes the result all the sweeter.

Pity I can't make the next race, away on hols.

Thanks to the back markers for making it easy. Big apology to popabawa for the spin and subsequent contact on the last lap. Didn't want to lose that podium poition, hope it didn't lose you a place, once again apologies.

Knackering concentrating for that long in a wet race, need a cold shower now to cool down. Don't know how the guys do it for real - hats off to them.

That's the second time on GTR I've raced in the wet (despite always racing on 'random') and I've learnt the hard way not to try and use soft wets for the race!  I had to pit around lap 8 because the rear end was all over the place (after spinning at least twice anyway), put on hard wets then ran through till the end.  Checked pressures when I was in the garage and they were all around 15kPa under optimum (why can't you change pressures in a stop, or can you?).

Managed to salvage 5th but after braking into the 1.38s in the dry I was gutted to see a wet race!  Roll Eyes

That was fun! My best race ever, made a couple of very small mistakes but otherwise didn't leave the track of my own accord.

I think rain suits me, nice and careful  Wink

Sucked big-time in Quals, ended up in 18th.

BIG smash on the start/finish after the parade lap, dunno what happened there?

Had a nice tussle with Dave Gymer for a while, feeling very pleased with myself in (I think) 8th after 30 mins when I came in to pit, took another 10 mins to realise that Shark & Dave (and others) weren't going to pit - DOH!

Picked up places after spins etc. for 20min, rather lonely really, chased whoever was in 8th for a while then decided not to screw it up and coasted in for 9th which I was very pleased with  Grin Maybe even a NGT podium once the non-scorers are taken out!

Pity there weren't a few more finishers but I appraciate there were CTD's / 1FPS's again. I feel for you guys.

And after I so carefully slowed for you...  Wink Nah, no prob, I had a massive gap each way so no harm done  Smiley
