Moderator's Report

Drivers are reminded that if it's raining, you should be running with lights on.

I've talked in the past about the dangers of overdriving. In this particular race, I watched Maurice Claessen run wide about 20% of the time, and go off far too often. I don't expect anyone to never go off or make a mistake, but it's essential that you attempt to drive within your personal limits; paddling a car out of the gravel traps every five laps is frustrating for you and dangerous for other drivers.

Server replay time: 200s

Just when I was starting to think we'd got the hang of rolling starts, we have a big smash at the start line.

Maurice Claessen who is leading the pace lap starts to accelerate well before the line, but the real culprit is Tazman who comes out of the last corner and immediately passes a whole bunch of cars. There is then a chain reaction with a whole load of cars having to stand on the anchors, which causes Oilseal to ram into the back of aajay_uk, [Zip]Tyf joining the fun. Gerald nearly joins in too.

  • mclaessen (Maurice Claessen)warning — premature acceleration on the pace lap
  • Tazmanpenalty — going on the pace lap before the driver in front went — 0 places lost

Server replay time: 284s

Tazman spins off out of turn 12. He rejoins, drifting lazily across the track as most of the rest of the field come past - they do well to miss him, Gerald taking to the grass to avoid contact.

As this is the first racing lap, it would normally be an additional place lost over the normal three, but since nobody actually hits him, and since he does appear to be at least trying to get out of the way, I've reduced it to just two places.

In this situation, it's best to remain stationary and/or off track and use the look behind/left/right functions to see if it's safe to rejoin. This gives everyone else the greatest chance to avoid you. Once you do rejoin, in most circumstances you should not attempt to cross to the other side of the track, even to get off the racing line, because again it makes you very unpredictable and hard to avoid.

  • Tazmanpenalty — dangerous rejoin — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 325s

Jamera has a huge moment in turn 12 and Dave Gymer gets more than halfway alongside on the inside into New Holland. Jamera turns in on Dave and there's contact but they both continue without damage or spinning, so as a result the normal penalty (three places on the first racing lap) is reduced.

  • Jamerapenalty — contact with Dave Gymer — 1 place lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Server replay time: 352s

Popabawa gets half a car length ahead of Jamera on the inside of Elf, but Jamera turns in on him and there is contact. Although neither car spun or was badly damaged, and despite Jamera not losing the place, the full penalty must apply because this is the second such incident in the space of less than 30 seconds.

  • Jamerapenalty — contact with Popabawa — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Server replay time: 400s

Jamera gets caught out under braking for Wurth and runs into the back of Popabawa, who brakes very early compared to his normal braking point, and is very slow mid-corner. Jamera comes off far worse, losing a place to Shark in the Z3M, so I'm only going to issue a caution.

  • Jameracaution — rear ending Popabawa

Server replay time: 1400s

Zacari has just left the pits on fresh but cold wet tyres; he applies to much power on the exit of Repsol and spins into the back of Michael Cooper, spinning both out.

  • Zacariadvice — be careful on cold tyres, especially when near other cars

Server replay time: 1403s

Maurice Claessen's Saleen has run wide at La Caixa, allowing Popabawa's GT3-RS to lap him. Pops runs wide in Turn 12 and Maurice sees it as an opportunity to unlap himself, but doesn't leave Popabawa enough room to recover without going off and makes contact.

Maurice only had himself to blame for going off at La Caixa and forcing another driver off the road after they had made a lesser mistake was needlessly agressive. However, because there was some ambiguity in the situation, I'm reducing the penalty to a single place.

Server replay time: 1475s

Tazman has gone off at Wurth, and rejoins up the hill only to spin again as he tries to apply some power. He rejoins again and drives very slowly across the track towards the apex of Campsa before retiring just as Dave Gymer arrives.

Dave starts going to the right to avoid him, but Tazman continues to move, and being hard on the brakes Dave can't jink to the left and would've made contact - it was pure luck that Tazman hit escape just as Dave was about to crash into him.

Much like Taz's earlier off at 284s, having decided to rejoin, the one thing you must not do is cross the track with cars approaching. They stand very little chance of avoiding you.

  • Tazmanwarning — bad (aborted) rejoin

Server replay time: 1510s

Maurice has run off in La Caixa; as Popabawa approaches Maurice applies too much throttle and spins right across Popa's path.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 3639s

aajay_uk has a slow, lazy spin in Banc Sabadell and Popabawa can't quite squeeze past on the inside, spinning out as he clip's aajay's nose.

  • Racing incident

Well I came in as a reserve in the 360. Absolutely amazed to qualify 14th  Smiley

Got up into 11th at one point with 20 still in the race, then a couple pushes too hard later I start dropping down the field and have chase to get back up again. Finally came in 11th or 12th, but do feel a little disappointed with this on 2 counts, 1, could have and should have done much better. 2, it is a little demotivating when you have fought hard to climb the field to see that most of the drivers behind you have left the race for one reason or another, sort of takes the shine off it  Sad

That was great fun.

As i run with plenty with wing, felt pretty comfortable with my setup even though it was first race in wet.
Decided on safety first strategy. Worked out great when simon67, who i wasn't really catching, stumbled
and gifted me lead. Started to build 30 sec lead before pits stop. Exited in 2nd and relaxed thinking (like a noobie)
that everbody had to stop. Wrong. After five or six laps I finally twigged and realized Matj was not stopping. Tried
to push and was catching him but nowhere near fast enough. Well done m8.

No real surprise but, for me, everyone drove impeccably in tricky conditions.

A very enjoyable race as a Div 1 place filler in the BMW. Love the wet, so much fun sliding around and actually much less stressful than dry where you're constantly on the edge.

Did a no-stopper as the BMW had fuel to get to end and another 30 mins probably although tyres were shagged at the end and especially after seeing if I could do some powerslides and failing like a right plonker.

Well Bloody Great!!! Excuse my French but what a crap race I didnt have.
First during practice 1FPS, then I get a Power Cut(okay can't blame Simbin for that one), get back in and then I Crash to desktop and cant get back in, just keep CTD'ing.
Think Im on the point of giving up with GTR Sad Angry Huh Undecided :'(

If you get a CTD always re-run the GTR 3D Config as that it usually a culprit for post-CTD CTDs (if that makes sense).

Yes that was very fun race and quite tough for me as well. My tyres were completely gone for the last 10 laps so I was really struggling with my F360 but in the end still managed to finish first even ahead of all the GT's which was a bit of surprise for me. I expected some of the GT guys to choose the same tactic as me and not stoping at all so I guess my tactic gave me the win today. Great race, thumbs up for the backmarkers as well.

That was a nice race. Also the first one I completed in the championship without getting 1fps.

Surprised to start in first place. Then I screwed up at the last corner when I went on the throttle too early there. I lost my nose in the contact with the wall so I had to go all the way around the track to the pits to get a new one. To make matters worse I got a puncture so I had to drive even slower.

I ended up last place after my pitstop (edit: took only 1,5 minutes to change the nose, but it seemed like ages ) When I finally got back on the track I managed to make up a few places. Got to 12th place when my car started sliding all over the place. Took the wrong tires I think. Then I made my final pitstop and things went well from there, finishing 10th.

Learned alot from this one. Hope there will be more wet races, I like them  Smiley

BIG smash on the start/finish after the parade lap, dunno what happened there?

Could it have something to do with the fact that my ping is slighly higher than the ping from the drivers in the UK ? (I live in the Netherlands) . I can't think of anything else really  Undecided .

Ermmm not exactly, but I'm sure I can find it. And thanks
actually i'm away on holiday now until end august so may have time to get my patience ( was a very apt choice of password) back by then.

Help a noobie out here, would that have been possible? My soft wets still felt pretty good when I
pitted but is this only possible in wet conditions? I know I should spend more time rehearsing but
fun race tomorrow looks a better bet than practicing on my lonesome.

I was tempted to try and run on hard wets with a full tank (in the F550) but I wasn't sure it'd make it fuel-wise (was only good enough for 55 mins, but in reality it would've been close)

Filled the Lambo but only had fuel for 45 minutes so did a 40 - 20 split.

I ran straight through in the 360 on soft wets, though they did get a bit iffy towards the end

Dont know really. That was my first wet race as well so I took hard wet rear and soft wet front but they were pretty much gone after 40 minutes or maybe they were just to cold (60 - 70 C) so I struggled especially accelerating out of the corners. Luckily braking and entering the corner was still pretty good so I guess there was still some life in the tyres.
