Season 41 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 1 – Works - Assen

The first race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Assen in the Netherlands. Assen has a long history of motor racing. The first event, a motorcycle race, was held in 1925 on country roads through the villages of Rolde, Borger, Schoonloo and Grolloo.  Between 1926 and 1954, the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race, was held on the Van Drenthe circuit. This was a 10.27 miles street circuit through De Haar, Barteldsbocht, Oude Tol, Hooghalen, Laaghalen and Laaghalerveen. In 1955 a new purpose built track was inaugurated which was shorter than the original but at 6.049 miles it was still a long track by modern standards. Over the years the track has been through numerous modifications which have changed its length each time. The 1967 version we are using tonight is 4.8 miles long.  Although more famous for motorcycle racing, the track has been used for car racing (BOSS GP, Champ Car, DTM and several junior classes) but never for Formula 1.

Wow! Pole position  Grin

Quickly followed by my customary poor start  Undecided

I was in 5th by the time I got to T1. Still, never letting the Maserati go above 7k revs I managed to pop in some fast laps until the end. Had a great battle with Phil and Evil for a few laps and spent the second half of the race locked in battle with Leo. I could smell the third spot on the podium but it wasn't to be. Congratulations Yannick, Enrique and Leo. A great start to the 55 series. Some great driving by everyone on this fabulous track. I'm more than happy with P4 though.  laugh

See you all next time.

Yes very well done Pete. That is some achievement in this company!  clap clap clap

I wondered what happened, I was very surprised to see you in front of me after the start. I though you must have had an engine problem but obviously not.

Yes, it was fun until I pushed a bit too hard and ran wide onto the grass which allowed you to break away. You had too much pace for me anyway, so I had to settle down and try not to make mistakes. I only ran wide one more time which was good enough for me to hang onto 5th. I think both the Clive's made a few more mistakes than me which I'm pretty sure saved my bacon. I think they were both faster than me on outright pace.

The poor starts are because I'm terrified of buzzing the engine off the line.

Didn't drive my fastest race today, but I prevented spinning my car around which helped me to get first today.

Sadly I did just the opposite! I lost count of my spins and came close to giving in but I was so glad that I didn't when I saw that Enrique had claimed second place and with an amazing fastest lap too.  Well done Enrique and a good start for SBRC.

Congratulation to Yannick for the win and Leo for 3rd.

From my side, it will only take another couple of races like that for me to knock this lark on the head and flog my wheel!

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.

I don't understand how the IP address can be the same for works and privateer?

With some hi-tech wizardry, he has both servers running on a different set of ports - which allows hosting multiple servers via the same public IP address.

A similar feeling here Clive!!
After a very fortunate start where I was able to launch off the grid whilst others appeared to be still fastening their seat belts, things went slowly downhill.

Lost touch with the leading group when I asked too much of the rear tyres out of one of the hairpins, squirreling onto the grass, and dropped 3 places. A connaught was ahead of me and Fulvio was driving his usual fast and consistent race so it took me a few laps to find a way past.
Then, I hunted down Bastian only to catch him just as he lost control into the same hairpin. In trying to avoid his car I nosedived into the concrete wall. I suspect that something got re -arranged in the suspension/steering area as the car was not the same afterwards.
Fulvio was able to hound me in his Connaught through the twisty bits, although the Ferrari power gave me some respite on the straights. I passed Mr Loynes after one of his excursions, but I had to be extremely careful (and slow) through the corners as the brakes did not work well with the steering inputs  scared
I thought that I had enough of a gap as I started the last lap to hang on to a 6th place finish with a damaged car. But, just to hammer the final nail into a dismal drive I missed a downshift into the ( same ) hairpin and ran wide, allowing Fulvio to sweep past and then to complete the hero to zero the car snapped right out of the final corner and despite trying to cross the line in reverse I gifted the place to Clive L.

Grats to those on the podium who stayed out of trouble and demonstrated how it should be done!!  Undecided

Hi all,

i tried the ferrari 625, ist seems there is no brake fade ? very nice.

I needed all of my brakes after a good start when someone suddenly braked in the middle of the long straight. Why ?

Later in the race, i could not hold up with phil and i felt safe, but crashed into the box wall and damaged my engine.
suddenly evil was there and he already described what happened. sorry to interrupt your race.

Fulvio and Clive also catched me after being slow on the straights. My gears seemed to be to short anyway, so this made it even more grave.

Ooops, a typo in the race announcement. UKGPL04 runs on the standard port :32766 and UKGPL05 runs on the additional port :32666. The clever bit is nothing to do with me, the authors of iGOR (Phil Flack et al) provide an option to use a different join port. I've corrected the race announcements because I'll no doubt use them as templates for the rest of the season and I don't want to copy over the same typo. Thanks for pointing out the error Clive.

hello guys, thanks clive for the congratulations, actually I owe it to you, for using your set up as you sent it, so this podium also has a "cloyd" flavor hehehehe. Cool
I like this circuit a lot and it is very technical, I think I run well here, and in this mod, I had room for more, but I made a mistake (as usual)  Undecided  and lost 1st position, I returned to the track in 3rd place behind Leo, and little by little I began to go back to those in front, on the main straight Leo made a mistake and I put on 2, about 10 seconds apart from 1, and I was slowly discounting him, but I didn't have enough time, Yannick came very solid and won a well-earned race, congratulations yan :-) Wink
also a big congratulations to leo, for keeping his 3rd place despite his mistake, great race.
I really like this mod, it amuses me a lot.
thanks for the race phill and for the organization Smiley
