Season 41 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 1 – Privateers - Assen

The first race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Assen in the Netherlands. Assen has a long history of motor racing. The first event, a motorcycle race, was held in 1925 on country roads through the villages of Rolde, Borger, Schoonloo and Grolloo.  Between 1926 and 1954, the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race, was held on the Van Drenthe circuit. This was a 10.27 miles street circuit through De Haar, Barteldsbocht, Oude Tol, Hooghalen, Laaghalen and Laaghalerveen. In 1955 a new purpose built track was inaugurated which was shorter than the original but at 6.049 miles it was still a long track by modern standards. Over the years the track has been through numerous modifications which have changed its length each time. The 1967 version we are using tonight is 4.8 miles long.  Although more famous for motorcycle racing, the track has been used for car racing (BOSS GP, Champ Car, DTM and several junior classes) but never for Formula 1.

This is the first race for the 55GP cars, the previous race was for the 67F1. You need to register here to compete in this race.

Assen and Ferrari 555  don't give me luck.Like the previous season the engine have abbandoned me when i was in good second position,no possibilities to defend not even a third position.

Congrats on the win & to the other podium chaps.

It would not have made much difference, but I'd earmarked today for testing, but forgot we would be out all day.

The pre-race practice/qual session was ok - but annoyingly, when I joined the grid for the start of the race, my graphics had become slightly scrambled.

The effect was as though the screen image had been dulicated a few times, all slightly offset from each outer.   Driving around was a bit of a challenge as no landmarks were clear & also made all guages/pribluda etc unreadable.
Still carried on (easier once the leading cars had disappeared up the road) & then was trying to at least reach 50% distance.   I thought I'd reached full distance, but apparently not.

Like the previous season the engine have abbandoned me when i was in good second position,no possibilities to defend not even a third position.

Looks as though you retained the 3rd place from the results?     I overtook your poorly car on what I thought was the last lap (I'm sure all flags were waving) and then stopped.

I don't recall being lapped  (I could see on Pribluda, that a red driver was some way behind)  but then became bright green/leader up ahead at the end of the race.

Unforunately, I was a bit slow trying to save a client replay & was booted from the server.

Anyway, cheers all!

A lonely run to the flag . no one lapped me yet the results show I was 1 lap down in P4
All flagmen were waving before I crossed the line . The pit board said 0 to go but I dont recall seeing the chequer waved .

How did that happen ?

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.

I'll have a look at the replay. You may have been dropped from the server. The replay will clarify what happened.

I've checked the server replay. Fran, Dave and Bernie all completed the race distance of 14 laps. For some reason the server didn't count one of their laps. I've used the replay to identify the correct finishing time and updated the results accordingly.
