Season 41 – 1966 F1 Series – Boreham Airfield

A UKGPL Championship debut  for the track recently created by GPL member Pete Bennett. Boreham is a real track (at least until it was built over) converted from a British airfield in the late 1940’s and saw a few years racing into the early 50’s.

Please READ THE RULES CAREFULLY
A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient.

The tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race. Pro standard drivers will receive 10 tokens at the start of the season & a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Amateur drivers will receive 20 tokens at the start of the season and a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Driver ranks can be found at the bottom of this e-mail.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Please check Season 41 details regarding rules and the 1966 F1 Privateers Championship pages in particular.

I've been punted off or shunted out altogether so many times of late across a whole host of GPL mods that I'm just about ready to throw in the towel.  Grrr...  Sad

Yup. I was never going to do well tonight in an underpowered car with a terrible setup, but two shift-Rs in the first couple of laps and a couple of other very avoidable accidents (use your mirrors/pribluda gents!!!) meant I had lost interest in the race before Lap 5. Not sure why I stayed in, but will see if I can be bothered to report stuff tomorrow.

Doni, wherever you are, get yourself a beer and take it as being from me. So sorry. I thought I had the run on you up the inside into Hangar Bend. I tried to hug the haybales but, quite rightly, you stuck on the racing line and went defensive. My fault entirely. By now I should know better. So sorry for wrecking your afternoon  - I owe you one. (Oh, and no, you can't quit). As penance, I shall spend tomorrow listening to Philip Glass's piano concerto on repeat. Aaaargh! (private joke)

Tom, great racing with you today. Your Honda was keeping me on my toes. I need to take a look at the replay as there was one point where Phil and I did a bit of what looked like synchronised figure skating around Waltham Corner. How we missed each other, goodness only knows. I bet Tom got a good view from his seat.

Sorry once again to Doni.

Thank you everyone for burning rubber on my track. Hope you enjoyed it.  Grin

Eventful race tonight.

First few laps had great fun with Tristan until my car snapped and I spun between some haybales, which made recovering slightly difficult.

This got me stuck in a group for P2. I went by each and lost them when we ran into traffic paradise.

Afterwards it was just a cruise to the finish line... until on the penultimate lap I got hit by a surprise attack from a random Ferrari braking for the last turn.

As I said, eventful race.

Track is Great Pete.  one of my favourites. I must watch a replay or two of you faster guys as im sure im taking some corners in one gear lower than the rest of the Grid..

I probably need a looser setup and attack the corners a bit harder. who knows..  i sure dont LOL.

I need to check, did you upload a reply with the track install ?

if not perhaps someone would kindly send one over or point me in the right direction.

I made the best of a bad car choice, the Lotus 43 and Honda looked like good value for money tonight. I was lucky to stay out of trouble on lap 1, I need to take to the grass big style to avoid a bunch of spinning cars. That dropped me back from the pack and I had to work hard to bridge the gap to Axel. After a bit of pressure, Axel lost the rear and spun out and from then on it was just a matter of driving carefully and avoiding any trouble. This track is trickier than it looks, and it can bite if you don't concentrate. There was no way I was going to catch any of the big 3 Litre cars ahead, so I settled for 7th. The last few laps were hectic, I was a lap ahead of Evil and Bastian but we were equally matched and I had to work hard to keep ahead and not interfere with their battle.

That was on Lap 14 Pete Grin. We were racing for position so I didn't want to make it too easy for you but I knew a robust defence was futile Wink. When you went up the inside I cut back inside, good job I did too because you almost parked it on the outside opposite the apex and I'd have probably hit you if I'd tried to stay wide. Your battle with Tom was good to watch (for half a lap and then you were gone Roll Eyes ).

My first race for a while & that's about the best thing I can say about tonight.
Too many silly errors & excursions into the scenery.
I tried to give plenty of room to overtaking cars & was doing relatively OK at that until I lost concentration near the end with a thoughtless rejoin. The part of my brain that should say 'watch out for traffic' went to sleep. Looking at the above posts it looks like I impeded Yannick's BRM. Very sorry - but relieved it didn't lose you any places.
Hope I will be a little more switched on next time.
