Ah - yes, I remember now. Wouldn't it make more sense though if drivers only scored for the place that they finish in, including the non-team drivers? Giving a driver a stack of team points for finishing near the back just because those in front don't have a team seems a bit wrong.

Very old ground! Large teams would eat all the points and besides, unless you give points in proportion to how close to the leader each car finishes, how is this any different from awarding the 50 to the winner, 43 to second and so on, even if second finishes 12 laps down on the leader?

Why would large teams get all the points? All I mean is that you reward the top 2 drivers in each team for their finishing position, not for the number of no-team drivers ahead of them. Look at that race and tell me how 31 points for a 2nd place and a 6th makes sense compared to 23 points the kerbies got for 2nd and 4th at Estoril?

To answer your second question, because racing is and always will be about positions. Unless we make the race a time trial than that isn't going to change, but there seems to me no reason why the fact that a driver is not in a team should somehow bump a lower driver up the team points table.

For the same reason that drivers in different classes don't interfere with each others' scoring. The team championship is for team finishes i nthe same way that the GT1 championship is for GT1 cars.

The reason the classes score seperately is that they are different cars and it would be unfair to score them together. Maximum points in GTC drivers championship means you were the fastest GTC driver, which is quite right. To take an extreme example, maximum points in the team championship could actually mean you were the last GTC driver in the race!

I'm not going to lose much sleep over the team championship anyway, but I think this is a bit silly and devalues the team championship. The champions should be the team that drove the best and were the most successful over the season, but this will not be the case if the points are calculated this way.

I'd like to bet that any other real championship would work the way I've said, with independants reducing the team score for those below them - I'll have a dig around and see if I can find an example.

I wasn't aware that this was "old ground" as I've never seen it discussed or explained before, and I've never really bothered to look at point system before. Not that I'm bothered with team titles either (unfortunately they don't make you any more attractive to women Smiley), but Paul does seem to have a point for me. Could we have a poll before next season? Mind you, could be a bit academic as all have joined teams now Roll Eyes.
