Have always loved Cadwell, but feared the Caterham would be a nightmare, with all the sharp elevation changes etc. Quite the opposite in fact; for me at least, this was by far the best track for it. Not nearly as hysterical as on the other tracks, as long as you showed some restraint in the most critical places.
Race 1: After the start, Dan was frankly making me nervous; every time I touched the brakes (and a few times when I didn't), his car would shoot up very close behind me, darting left or right - I couldn't really tell if he was doing a lousy job of trying to take me out, or a stellar one of avoiding the very same!!
Thus relieved when I got some distance between us. At the end of L3, Geoffers had a moment, which allowed me to snatch 2nd. Held on to it to the finish. Daz back in normal uber superior form was of course way out of reach.
Race 2: Again chasing after the two aliens, while once more Dan was giving me nervous ticks over the first 1-2 laps. Initially Geoffers pulled away despite my best efforts, stretching the gap to just under 5 secs I believe. Late in the race it started going the other way, so a few more laps would have been welcome.
Race 3: With both Daz & Geoffers missing the qual, I was gifted an unexpected opportunity. Ran away with pole, and kept the lead after the start, with the now obligatory Dan-nervous-ticks for the first lap. Hoped the rest of the pack could keep the two faster gents occupied, while I tried for a getaway. Pushed as hard as I could, to make the most of the situation, and initially building the gap. However, one by one the other drivers I was relying on, felt by the wayside. Disconnect followed disconnect. Little over halfways through, it was only the two tentacled gents and me remaining. Gap started dropping, now Daz had nothing impeding him, but lucky for me it was large enough that I could afford losing some secs. Replay reveals plenty of drama behind me, with lots of delays for Daz. Thus a great comeback to finish 2nd after all.
Grats to Daz for the wins & 2nd, to Geoffers for the podiums, and commiserations to victims of track & car.
Grats to Daz for securing the Championship in totally dominant style.
