Moderator's Report

After an off, Ziu rejoins the track at Fahrer Lagerkurve and into the path of a lapping Paddler.
This is a case of a bad rejoin which we judge accordingly.
Factors:
1) Was the joiner unable to see the victim?
2) Did the joiner rejoin carefully and gradually?
3) Was the victim accounting for the rejoin?

We judge the following:

1) Ziu could well of been unaware that he was being approached by a lapping car. He may not have seen any cars approaching him. We simply do not know so we have to give him the benefit of doubt.
2) It would be reasonable to say that this was not a gradual rejoin. Ziu went straight to the corner apex (the driving line). He should have joined the outer side of the turn and re-adjusted his position after the turn.
3) Paddler assumed that he should be let through by the rejoining car as he was lapping Ziu.

In conclusion we find Ziu guilty of a bad rejoin and award a two positions lost penalty.

Championship Standings here

Grid/server capacity: 22

Pm WT for series download

Track: Salzburgring

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins) No car make change allowed once Qualifying has started.
Race: 20:40 (32 laps)

Car restrictions: Check your car availability here

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Not required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

Unlucky Paul. There is a bit of text that tells you which session is next and what it is now when you are in the monitor window of the garage, might be worth finding that and checking it on the odd occasion. GTL is a much shorter countdown than a lot of the other titles I think so it is very easy to miss the start sometimes. We've probably all done it at some point in the last 17 or so years....

Really good fun to hustle the big Mustang around here, although given his pace in a lighter car that may have been better on tires in the long run, it's a bit of a shame we lost Manfred. I figured if I could just keep putting in laps around 1.30 dead that would make me difficult to stay with, and look after the rubber a bit, that went right out of the window when he was gone and I had a whole load of 'Yee-hah' moments getting the power down onto that back 'straight', great fun. Car was heavy in the twisties, but managed to sort the setup out so that it wasn't too bad whilst still being stable.

Grats to all the finishers, not easy in these beasts when the tires are worn down.

Paul, you can always join the practice server, and push the sessions through to Race (by calling a new session). No voting required as you're the only one online.

This will give you a chance to check things.

Grats to the podium and those who finished.

Normally I shut myself in my room with my rig and I am able to focus my single working brain cell on piloting my car. As a result of some decorating in other rooms, there are items of furniture temporarily blocking the doorway, so I cannot shut the door. This change in circumstances has been spotted by some small members of our household.
Have you ever tried racing with a cat appearing to sit on the bonnet of your car and chasing every item moving across the 42" monitor. To say the least, it is distracting, at worst it stops one seeing the apexes etc. Add to that random walks across the keyboard, turning mirrors on/off and changing the view.

Within the first 2 laps I had picked up 2 "Cut Track" warnings and several "almost spins.
The offending feline was carefully (honestly  Roll Eyes) lifted to the floor, but decided that the game was far too much fun to abandon  Undecided and promptly returned !! The 3rd cut warning was inevitable and a pit stop ensued  cursing.

My out lap from the pits was even more of a disaster and I picked up another cut track warning and another stop thanks to obstructed vision. A second stop and go was followed by 2 warnings inside a single lap. At this point I surrendered to the inevitable and allowed the DQ to happen.

A little gutted as although I was not on the pace of Daz and Paddler, I was holding a gap to Micha and ( when I could see the road )  felt quite comfortable. Ah well, the joys of pet ownership....Huh? perhaps  shifty

Result

Cool

Nice grid !  Smiley

Sorry for being absent yesterday. Spontaneously decided to watch "In the heat of the night" on arte.tv.
I must confess that (old) movies are one of my passions, and this one: great actors, great music, great story .....
I simply couldn't resist, although I have already seen the film more than once  Roll Eyes

See you next week.

Race for me had a few ups & downs.   Was further up the grid than expected, but promptly lost a place after the start when Clive roared past in his Mustang.  Followed Lobo for a few laps, until he had an off.  Behind me, Michael had been replaced with Micha. Gap between us seemed locked at 1.5 secs for several laps, so we were lapping with exactly matching times.  No room for errors obviously, but error I made, when I lost the rear under braking for the first chicane.

With that Micha went past, and more worryingly Fulvio too.  Sat behind him for the next many laps in what is probably the most frustrating situation in GTL:  Having a faster cornering, later braking car up against an opponent with more power and faster straight line speed. As long as Fulvio didn't make any mistakes, all I could do was catch up and hold back in the curvey bits, only to have him pull away again on the straights.  Finally managed to get alongside and then ahead into the final chicane.  As expected and feared, he would nose ahead again on the run down to the first chicane, but this time I could exploit the later braking possible with the Opel, to remain ahead.  Barely managed to keep him at bay until the fast right-hander after the back straight, where he ran off while following me into the curve at the same speed, which showcased the difference between our cars cornering speeds.

Having profited from Manfred & Clive's bad luck (Whiskas in the mail for kitty...  Grin), I unexpectedly got a podium finish with 3rd.

Grats to Daz & Micha; commiserations to anyone with bad luck

First of all my apologies to Matt for the touch up at the chicane.
After two years without running I suppose these errors are normal. I hope to do better next time.

The quali for me was fine. Unexpected 3rd place.
The start of the race was good, but a bit nervous due to the Coyote pressures behind me. So I made a mistake and hit the wall.
After that I had to do the whole race with the wheel turned left to stay in a straight line. difficult situation.
Finally 6th. A good result given the situation.

In any case, happy to be back.

I hope we see others Mondays.

Cheers!

Well that didn't help Lobo, but I had plenty of time lost for other events...
I had to take to the gravel avoiding at least two other spun/recovering cars
Had a tangle with Ziu that meant we both were lapped it took a geological age
to get going again, two cut tracks so far with emergency avoidance
then the left orange drum had gone in chicane 1 and I misjudged it
3rd Cut track = S/G

Your failed brakes were a mere bagatelle   surrender
