Track: Jarama ('79)

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins) No car make change allowed once Qualifying has started.
Race: 20:40 (32 laps)

Car restrictions: Check your car availability here

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Not required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Cuts will be off.

Grats to the podium people and for the finishers. I see that Kurt set a lap record for the Merc tank too.

Quite an unusual DNF for me, and quite comical for any onlooker although a little unnerving for me. I was aware that my wheel had a loose wobble over recent races and kept promising myself that I would investigate further when I had time......but never quite did  Roll Eyes

So during last nights event I was again aware of the wobble, but it still worked OK so "i'll do it later" was my thought. Practice. Qually and the first few laps of the race things seemed to be OK. I manged to control a  kamikaze dive on Matt into T1 to take the place and was pushing to keep the leading trio in sight. Gradually it felt like the car was becoming unstable out of corners, but it transpired that it was my wheel. And then...... I took a left hander and gave the car a healthy dose of BMW power which, as expected, caused the tail to step out slightly. But when I applied a few degrees of opp lock, instead of the car straightening up I found the steering wheel flopping around in my hands and zero actual steering happening  scared scared scared
I had thought that the threaded boss behind the wheel had come loose, but it transpires that in fact the ring of 6 screws holding the wheel to the boss had worked loose and some had previously dropped out unnoticed and have now been recovered from under my rig. When the last screw gave up the struggle last night, things became somewhat random !!
All screws have now been recovered, re-inserted and surprise, surprise the wheel does not wobble anymore  Roll Eyes All my fault for being too lax about the initial wobble and routine maintenance.....but quite entertaining I suppose??
A great series with some interesting and varied cars, thanks Tony.

Much more fun than expected when deciding to opt for the bonus drive in the AMG without any practice at all.
Unfortunately I went to a shorter gearing just before the start which cost about 1 second per lap
and lead to water & oil temperatures between 103 & 106°C on the straight.
But wrestling this tank around the track was real fun with massive melting of tyres
(wondering which times the "aliens" would have reached in this car).

However managed to finish this series without any points  Roll Eyes

Thanks to Tony and all involved for organising this one and congratulations to MichaW for the title
and Erling & Geoffers for the podium

First congrats to Micha & Erling for 1st & 2nd in the championship, well done both.  clap clap

Race started OK, lost places to Erling & Matt, but repassed Matt at T1. I seemed to have the fastest pace in the opening laps, comfortably keeping up with Erling & Daz. However at the start of lap 5 I got a bit out of shape braking for T1 & had to take to the grass & ultimately the gravel trap to avoid hitting Daz. It then took an age to extract the car from the gravel, too much throttle & the car went around in circles, too little & the engine died, so after 2 pirouettes & 2 engine restarts I eventually got out barely ahead of Micha.

Chased down Kurt, Tony, Fulvio, Clive & Matt who all courteously let me past, so back up to 3rd. After around a dozen laps the front grip started to vanish & keeping up a pace to match the leaders became more difficult & after a brush with the barriers, became impossible, so suspect some damage to the front of the car may have occurred. Anyway soldiered on to the end & 3rd place.

Congrats to Daz & Erling  clap clap & thanks to Tony for organising  clap & to Matt for the server  clap.

I found the Capri was quite tricky here Geoff, once the tail was going around there was little I could do about stopping it....

Found a good lap in quali to get the pole, but then Erling got a great start to jump me. It was very difficult to hear the engine of the Capri over the Mustang of Matt and the BMW of Erling, and I think I span the wheels too much, and then didn't change very quickly in response. Only just held Matt at bay in all honesty, so got a bit lucky there. Erling was quick and smooth at the start, so seemed sensible in a longer race to sit tight, whilst keeping an eye on Geoffers behind. My eyes went wider when he had his moment in turn 1 as it looked like he may struggle to miss me, and it looked like he had gone very deep in the gravel, so I knew he would be off my rear for a good amount of time.

Tried to look at where I was quicker than Erling, but it soon was obvious that getting alongside wasn't going to be easy, the BM had better drive onto the front straight mostly, and getting through here can be tricky as it is narrow in places. A couple of laps of head scratching was relieved when Erling didn't get as good a launch onto the straight and I got alongside in turn 1. Trouble was I then binned it shortly after coming out of turn 4, losing about 6 seconds I think. Few laps later I was back, but then lost it again before making any attempt at a pass at all. Went again, then had a third spin, and was now around 10 seconds down not long past halfway in the race from memory.

The car had brushed the wall, couple of small impacts, but was mostly intact. Erling was being super consistent as always, lapping 36.4 to 36.7 for the main part. I had to get my head down and post some quick laps to make inroads, and ended up going better than in quali, always helps having a target to chase I find. Caught Erling on lap 28 I think, but it remained difficult to see how to go past. I had seen that I was quicker in turns 3 and 4, and had stuck my nose down the inside in turn 4 without getting enough alongside previously. It would all depend on if I could hook the car up enough out of that turn, relying on Erlings tyres maybe being a bit worn now to slow him down. This meant we were then alongside through turns 5, 6 and 7 before I could finally make it stick. Tried to pull away after that, but Erling remained resolutely none too far away right up until turn 1 of the final lap where a run on the gravel meant I could breathe freely.

Great fun at Jarama as usual, very good racecraft Erling, proper fight there.

Huge congrats to Micha for the series win, and Erling and Geoff for the podium.

This track has some of the elements I usually like; a few fast curves & elevation changes, but just too many tight corners to ever be a favorite.  Requires an agile car, and for me the Beemer was the best option.

Good start, jumping the two Capris ahead, but manoeuvring between them was tricky.  3-way battle ensued, but Geoffers vanished after a few laps, so obviously had gone off.  Between Daz & me then.  We had some side-by side action, but then he spun, giving me a 9 secs gap. Did my best to exploit it, but it still dwindled at about a sec each lap.  More battle when he caught up, side by side again, but a 2nd spin meant another 8 secs gap.  A repeat of things then occured, but in his 3rd attempt at passing, he made it stick when I was running a bit wide on worn tyres.

Stayed close for the following laps, but at the beginning of the final lap, traffic forced me off the racing line into T1, which made me lose it into the gravel, making the finishing gap larger than it should have been.  A rather unsatisfactory end to a hard race.

Grats to Daz for the inevitable win & to Geoff for completing the podium.  Grats to Micha for winning the series, and thanks to Tony for the organizing!
