Congrats Jonny and Tristan! It´s nice to see Jonny get a win especially after such a tough season. It´s hard to believe Tristan screwed up so late in the race.
I got lucky to get such a good finish. I thought this would be a lot like East London, that the Brabhams and Lotuses would work me over well. Syd and Phil took a while to get going so I didn´t need to run any 1:46s. The last lap was the only lap I made it into the 1:46s.
I´d guess Syd and Phil didn´t practice much if any. I had never driven the track until a hour before qualify. I copied my Beal Valley setup and spent 30 minutes getting it ready for qualifying. I wish had spent 1-1.5 hours working on it. Mid way through the race I realized I could use more rear brake bias. I had a lot of trouble locking my front wheels. More rear brake bias and some fine tuning might have got my fastest laps into the low 1:46s.
A bit of warp contact at T1 dropped me back from 4th to last and I had to work very hard to catch up (had good battles with Pete and Alain).
I hope that wasn´t because of me, Phil. I reacted a little slow to the flag drop and then got too much wheel spin. I lifted early for T1 to let you by but I saw you slow sooner than I needed to so I went ahead and drove into T1 as fast as I could.
I´m surprised the Cooper did so well for me. I´d have been satisfied with an average of P5 from it. I don´t expect much from it other than I enjoy driving it. It´s not a bad car to learn new tracks like Beal Valley and Road Ontario, but the Ferrari is my favorite for learning new tracks.
At East London I noticed I could drop as low P6 in the final standings. Now it looks like I can drop no lower than P4. I´m in good shape for the finale. I have a lead in the points and nobody can drive a better car than I can.
It was good to see all the drivers here. I´m glad Doni is back, but it´s a shame Leo didn´t show.
Thanks for the fun guys. I appreciate you letting me race with you.
