Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 319s

Picnic is approaching the last chicane after Lycee, and As-here makes a lunge up the inside. Pete leaves room, they try to go through together but As-here tries to take the line through the second part of the chicane and there is contact and Pete spins out.

As-here is never level before turn-in and therefore didn't have the corner. Pete did well to leave him room and had every right to turn in on him. There is not really enough space for 2 cars through there and it was a silly place to try and overtake, especially as it was early in the race.

  • as-herepenalty — over-ambitious overtake — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 1136s

TrueTom is following Fozz very closely as they approach Chateau D'Eau. Foz moves initially to the left but then moves back to the right and brakes at the same time. TrueTom rear-ends him and Fozz is nurfed off the track.

Because Fozz changed his line from the normal racing line and also braked early and changed line at the same time, this gave Tom very little chance to avoid contact. The best course would have been either to stay right after the chicane or to have stayed left and braked normally. Changing line and braking early with a car very close behind is probably not a good idea.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1465s

Fozz is following Chris Bull into the Imola chicane. Chris gets it a bit wrong and cuts across the gravel on the first part. This slows him down a lot mid corner and Fozz rear-ends him.

No-one to blame here. Fozz couldn't avoid contact as Chris slowed a lot mid corner.

I *think* I've calmed down now...

What a fantastic experience that was. In my 20+ years of gaming, that was one of the best.

Just want to start off by saying it's a real bummer that quite a few people had technical problems, looks like the 1FPS bug hit hard last night, I really feel for you  :'( So frustrating after you've put a lot of practice in.

I was astounded at how good the qualifying times were, even though I managed to put in a PB of 1:43.7 it was only good enough for 12th! Hats off to the <1:42 guys, fantastic.

That was the first time I felt I was "in the race" for the whole time and I had company for pretty much the whole race, takes it to a completely different level.

The battle with PaulW and Mike Wrightson was absolutely awesome, Paul, I was praying for you to hold Mike off as I knew I was next in line! Thought we did a pretty good job though, definately don't want to be easy to pass Smiley I was surprised how long I lasted, superb driving from Mike as I'm sure I messed up a few corners and caused a few (unintentional) problems!

The last 10 mins seemed to go on forever with PaulW chasing me, we had a few moments with back markers where I thought you might have a go but we were pretty even for pace I think although I was pushing a bit harder to keep you at bay.

Quote
Totally gutted to see Pops out break himself with only about 2 laps to go and I grabbed 4th place.

Thanks Paul, I really appreciate that Smiley - I managed to take a bit too much curb which dragged the car round a bit too far for me to recover from, broke the splitter (can I have a re-enforced one, they break too easily Grin) which meant I had to limp the last 1.5 laps and let Picnic grab a place.

I'd done a similar thing the previous lap and just got away with it so I can't complain really. I *think* that because I'd been pushing a bit harder that my tyres weren't in quite as good a shape as I thought which led to the mistake.

Still, 7th feels good. I was hopeful of a top 10 finish so that's pretty sweet. My goal was to get at least one top 8 finish this season as I thought that would get me in the points (however, now we're FILSCA-less the scoring system seems to have changed  Cheesy) so mission accomplished  Cheesy

I think Magny has now become my favourite track, someone else mentioned that the 90min endurance race helped enormously and I'll back that up, after making a right pig's-ear of that race I knew where I was going wrong in my practice for this race.

DOH!  PaulW, did you get yours??

I've gotta remember to rename them as soon as I exit the race Sad

On the 1fps bug thing, I have read on Simbin forums that the non-DX server causes it a lot more than the DX server.

I have to find a solution to these f'king brakes, it's just way too easy to lock the wheels!!!

I tend to find pressing the brake pedal less works.  Wink Wink Grin Grin Cool Cool Tongue

After those first couple of dodgy laps settled down in clear air and ran my own race in the 44/45 bracket and gained a few places simple because of others problems. A flukey 6th place Cheesy

Ah! Some good points for Team Shark. Well done Pete.

On the 1fps bug thing, I have read on Simbin forums that the non-DX server causes it a lot more than the DX server.

Yes I think this is probably the case, but we have no choice on that as Picnic's server has no CD drive.

From the responses so far I've tallied - 3 hit invisible cones, 2 got 1 FPS bug in race, 2 had CTDs in race.
Shame on you Simbin.

I've got one just called 'Magny Cours' which looks like last night- is this the standard one that gets overwritten each time you race? (never really looked at my own replays!).

How does that differ from the one Picnic is able to provide given that in both you can switch between cars and viewpoints ?

Paul, you should find the race replay will be several MB is size. You shouldn't have overwritten last night's replay as the server never cycled to the next event as Chris couldn't quit for some reason.

The major advantage of the client replays is the cars have wheels!

Magny-Cours.Vcr of 17+ MB on my hdd, maybe that's the one you're looking for? Smiley

19-07-2005 23:04 So I guess that's the one. I'll have a look later or get it from your soon to be favorite page:

http://www.tyfdesk.com/gtrmovies/magny_cours_20050719.rar Should work soon-ish

P.S. Good race, although I still can't get to grips with the Bi-T lol!  Grin

Lol, wheels, a small but fairly crucial element to any race.
It's all working but, seeing as I turned down the fidelity a notch, comes in at 12Mb. It looks like Tyf has a higher fidelity replay then at 17Mb Smiley

By the way, where the heck is that invisible cone? I hit it on the first lap but then somehow missed it for the rest of the race even though I took just about every line through that chicane over the 30 minutes?

Last night was a classic, from my POV anyway, here's to many more (1fps free) races in the future  Cheesy

They kindof get hit off then skate along the floor at a constant rate. I think you only hit them if you go through them when they are stationary, and then they move after you have hit them (and keep moving with no friction on anything).

Paul, if you can get yours to me that would be fantastic!  If it still looks good at the lower fidelity, it'll be used for the movies.  I have mine on High but with the "super" setting turned off.  I'll grab Tyf's as well, the more the merrier Cheesy

When I came round on the pace lap, the cones at the last chicane were missing.  But I still hit one that wasn't there a few laps later.  I guess the game replaces the cones when the race starts but doesn't put the graphics back  Roll Eyes

Oh _that_ is wierd, the only experience I have is them being like invisible mines laying it the middle of the track, waiting to throw random cars around.

Cool, I use the same settings. I wonder if there is some way I could FTP this? Or we could try a 12Mb email?  Shocked

The cone thing is just sh1te, there's no other way of putting it. I noticed the cone on the second to last corner was a little 'dinged' but thought I'd cut it fine. I was close, but not close enough to cause the car to jerk off the track like it did. Perhaps one of your invisible cones was lying on it's side and sticking out from a previous hit.

Watch poor Matjas though a couple of laps in and he hits one full on half way down the start/finish straight as he runs alonside the wall, crazy stuff.

What with the CTD, 1fps bug and ghost concrete walls it's such a lottery whether you even finish Sad
