Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (35 laps)

Track: Red Bull Ring (GP), Austria

Car restrictions: Check your car availability here

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: x2
Pit stops: May be required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

Grats to Daz on a well controlled race and to all finishers. I was surprised that there were not more Sierras on the grid last night, but I was kind of obliged to use one as I had too many left in the garage.

Daz raised the question of tyre wear post race and TBH they did seem to wear rather quickly in the early laps. Surprisingly, only on the front left, even though I did extend first stint to take me to 20 laps.
After the usual Cosworth bog down off the grid I was able to claw my way back to 2nd and get within 3 secs of Daz, but I suspected that he was toying with me and after collecting 2 Track violations I had to play safe and protect 2nd place. I did wonder if Erling might have been trying a no-stop in the Supra, but given his early pace that seemed unlikely.

The very rough race plan for me was to run to 20 laps and then hope to be within striking distance of Daz ( and probably a non show Geoffers) so that I could push hard in the Sierra on the final laps and maybe steal a place with a little more rubber available.
I suspect that Daz did not change tyres as he gained a lot in the pitstop and it was clear that the gap was too big to bridge unless he made a mistake ( or two). I found that I could more or less match his pace but pushing to close the gap might incur another track penalty and Erling was only 30 secs behind , so I played safe and cruised home.

The upside of this race for me was finally creating a setup for the Sierra that felt that I was in control and NOT the car. Tyre wear was not too bad actually, which probably means I was not pushing hard enough  Roll Eyes.

Yep - as long as it lasted.  Smiley

Eventually got an S&G and another one for speeding in pitlane, so I quit.

And sorry for that little bump  Grin

Al ways quite liked this track, the corners do flow nicely in the second half of the lap, but are more technical than they first appear I think.

Went with the Holden, although I was sure the Sierra was probably the quickest car on such long straight bits I just felt the mid range punch of the V8 would be better suited for the corners in the second part, despite the slightly more ponderous transition in the chicane. Fantastic to see Clive drag some real pace out of the Sierra, and my quali lap was about all I had, it being just enough for pole.

Relied on Clive getting a poor start, but didn't think it would be as bad as it was! I think I was nearly at turn 1 by the time his boost arrived.....but a couple of laps in he was hoving into view in the mirrors. Was trying to fuel save a bit, had started on full tanks which could theoretically get me to lap 26, leaving a short splash to finish, but that would involve getting the tires to last a whole race distance as a change that late on the tires would be pointless.

In the end I pitted a bit early so I could grab new rubber, the wear rate was getting quite bad. Only needed a shorter fill of fuel though, so a bit of compensation. Did my best lap on the fresh rubber, then spent the last 5 laps or so trying to make enough smoke so that it was difficult for Matt to see the corners, all good fun!

Holden was a doddle to drive here in all honesty. Looking forward to getting back into the smaller cars though....

A hectic 1st half and rather lonely 2nd half.

Got the jump on Clive at the start, which was both good & bad, as would soon have to deal with his advances in the quicker car.  He barged through on L2, sending me wide at the end of the back straight, which put Matt right up my tailpipes. Blame Clive for that, but running wide in the following corner, letting Matt past, I could only thank myself for..  Wink   Long battle ensued. I could lap faster, but not find a way past, as there were nowhere where I had enough advantage to attempt a move.  Could only try to put max pressure on & hope for a mistake somewhere.  Eventually Matt apparently let me past on purpose.  Courteous, but uncalled for, as it was a completely fair fight.

Debated whether I should change tyres or not, not knowing what Matt intended. A change takes around 20 secs, but you also have to deselect it, so realistically you may save around 15 secs by skipping it.  Elected to change after all, expecting to be able to reel in Matt again, if he didn't change (But would I be able to get past?).  Seems like he changed as well, so never became an issue.

In one lap I bit out around 5 secs of the gap to Clive, which was highly motivating!  Thus pushed as hard as I could in the 2nd stint, but it was of course a fluke, as most laps the gap would increase or at best hold.

Clive: No-stop was not even remotely an option in the Supra - 24 laps was the most I could get out of a tankful.

Grats to Daz on yet another win & to Clive for 2nd.

I rather enjoyed that one as well  thumbup1

Mugged Clive at the start with his huge turbo slowly winding itself up  tank
then, as Erling said I went past him when he went autocrossing. Managed to get in his way for several laps
but he was clearly faster, particularly in the last and first corners, so rather than have the stress of
keeping him behind, I moved over on the S/F straight and then chased after for a few more laps
until I went a bit wide and he continued to pull away. I had half a thought I was in his way
of maybe worrying Clive, though it would be a long shot.

Shame Kurt had troubles. he was putting in some decent times in the Beemer  Cool
