This is not an easy problem to solve in a satisfying way.  While our races have become as boringly predictable as the worst Hamilton/Merc period in F1, at least with regards to the winner, I'm generally opposed to handicapping, at least from a results perspective.  Would I like to beat Daz, Geoffers & any other aliens showing up?  Of course, but if it only happens because they were artificially hamstrung, what kind of victory is it?

Another thing is that the top X (2, 3 whatever is decided), are not created equal.  I often find myself in the no mans land between the aliens & the rest of the field, but trailing a long way behind the former two.  Thus handicaps targeting the podium, top 3 etc, makes it even harder for someone like me to compete with the aliens, as if it wasn't hard enough already.

If the main purpose is to bunch the field up & make for closer racing, then perhaps it would work, but I tend to focus on results myself, and while the vaunted close racing can at times be very good, it inevitably also leads to more incidents, which I find frustrating, whether it's me ruining someone else's race, or having my race ruined.

Anyway, just my personal feelings, but I'll prob. retire with the end of this season, so don't put too much weight on them.

Btw, recently whenever I want to post something, however short, I get a timeout error when pressing preview or post.  I then have to go back, start over and paste the text I (hopefully) was cautious enough to copy before hitting the buttons.  Has the settings for the website changed ? - didn't use to have this issue.  Ironically, while I added this comment, it timed out once more..  Roll Eyes   And once more, between checking the preview and hitting 'post'.

I was acutely aware of the burden of admin here Tony. We are indeed fortunate to have a dedicated band of admins at UKGPL who rotate and jobshare the tasks.

I think/hope that a drivethrough will compress the field and generate some closer results........time will tell.

@ Erling Yes I also get the timed out message almost every time??

I have also experienced timeout messages and will report this to Dave. However I'm able to re-Post and everything works fine.

Whilst I appreciate Erling's point of view, & yes it is very satisfying when you have won fair & square, I only suggested a form of handicapping to give some of the other guys a chance at winning the odd race. Having looked back through the GTL results this year the only drivers that have won a race are Daz, Erling, myself & the odd other alien that has turned up occasionally (Paddler, Micha, Dimitar & Ziu) with one exception, Fulvio won once! I am not suggesting for one minute that we do this for all series, just an occasional one to attempt to make the outcome a little less predictable & the races a little more exciting, as Erling said the results recently have been a bit predictable. I still enjoy GTL but I have a bit of a feeling in my head that I am only turning up out of a sense of loyalty as the races I compete in in other sims during the week invariably provide more exciting races, even though at times I am lucky to be in the top 6. This is no reflection on Tony's organising which in my experience is unmatched elsewhere, it is solely to do with a lack of numbers & the quite wide disparity in the speed of the drivers here which makes the racing less exciting which is why I made the suggestion to try remedy that.

Dave has reset the login thingy in an attempt to get a handle on the timeout problem.

Re any handicap system, happy to give anything a go on my side that has benefits for all in terms of throwing some curveballs in for randoms sake.

IMPORTANT

There are two files that require updating. One is a better gearbox and the second makes the pit lane speed limiter work.

Please download these files and install in the GameData/Teams/TC-65/Austin A35 folder and allow to overwrite.
