Championship standings HERE Grid/server capacity: 22 Car/Track download available by pm to WTCars: '92 Ford Escort RS Track: Silverstone (National Sprint) RACE ONEPractice: ~19:20 (60 mins) Qualifying: 20:20 (10 mins) Race: 20:30 (20 laps) Bonus points: 1 point for fastest lap in race. RACE TWO will follow, with same rules as for Race One except that, Race One podiums will not take part in Race Two qualification.Time of Day Setting: 14:00 Start: STANDING Tyre wear: Normal Fuel consumption: Normal Pit stops: Not required Server: simracing.org.uk Monday Password: see aboveNotes: (1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage. (2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules. (3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read Autopit="0" Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable. Special Notes: Driver's must complete over 50% race distance to score points.

Windows update and loss of my GTL profile settings (could be restored) spoiled my participation yesterday due to missing practice opportunities (using my Windows desktop computer now only for online racing - everything else with a Linux computer or a Raspberry PI).
Thus rather a short and non-competitive story.
Maybe I should try to run GTL on Linux - there is a thread here, but looks very complicated.

If you are considering Linux Kurt... There is a step by step Linux installation thread on the UKGPL section https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=34391.0It is set up for using GPL, but I would suggest that if GPL will work GTL should be easier? I confess that I struggle with these cars to find any consistency on lap times. I think that I do not "believe" that they will stick to the tarmac if I try and force the pace through a corner, so I brake too hard and scrub off too much speed In this 2 race format I am usually getting more comfortable in the final laps of the second race ....unless I have Daz blowing smoke up my tailpipe!! Race 1 was wierd as I seemed to slowly lose pace as the race progressed Race 2 I reversed the process and got quicker ?? BTW do you guys upshift as soon as the red light illuminates or do you treat it only as a warning that you are approaching max revs and wait for the misfire?? I only ask because when in close combat with others they seem to pull more revs and for longer than I do. Maybe the early upshifting is how I can squeeze extra laps from a tank of juice in other series. I did try Daz's setup for race 2 ( thanks Daz) but was puzzled that it showed 29 laps of racing in the tank, based on my driving style, which would indicate that I was not screwing the gas as hard as he was?

However, we have not been able to retrieve a useable replay file. So, consequently, no replay is currently available.

I think that was just me being safe with the fuel from another track Clive, I reduced it to 25 laps before qualifying last night, and that was my race fuel load. Generally speaking, I do always run with a touch too much fuel in the car as it feels more comfortable to me most of the time.
To answer your question on the rev light, I was changing up not long after the red light illuminated on the mini hud readout I have in GTL, and I am not sure if that truly corresponded with the dash light or not. Most of the time with these turbo cars making sure that you thrash the living daylights out of them is the way to be quickest, hence my punches on the throttle in the longer slow turns, I am trying to keep the revs a bit higher and the boost on. No idea if the boost is mapped properly in GTL but it seems to work for me from time to time.

Clive: I upshift well beyond the red light if possible, but just before hitting the limiter, as hitting it is bound to slow you down.
Race 1: Fairly predictable result. Geoffers running very wide in one of the first corners being the only thing to upset the order of the Universe. Gifted me 2nd temporarily, but he had enough laps to make a comeback and grab 2nd.
Race 2: A surprising and hard fought victory for me - perhaps too hard. Apologies to Geoffers for 1st lap contact. Wasn't aware you were there, and chucked it down as a racing incident. In retrospect, I should maybe have waited.
Daz ran wide same place as Geoffers in race 1, letting me past. Matt having a small off made it easy to pass him on L1. Clive spinning out of control same place on L2 gained me another position, but I was very lucky not to get collected in the process. Next a battle with Tony over several laps, while trying to fend off advances from Daz. Tony defended resolutely, promptly plugging any Ford sized gaps I tried to poke my nose into. Finally made it past in T1.
Next a hard fight with Daz, not giving any quarters. Some contact, but not sure who was responsible for what. Didn't think I did anything wrong in the final one, which resulted in a spin for Daz, so didn't wait. With that the order of the Universe was disturbed, robbing Daz of the almost certain victory; very unexpected.
Grats to Daz & Geoffers for victory & podiums, and apologies again for contacts on my conscience.

Two very similar races with first lap incidents dropping me way behind the field followed by a series of qually laps to recover as many places as possible. The first race I engineered my own downfall on lap 1 by forgetting that the brakes don't work very well on these until they are warmed resulting in me heading out onto the GP track instead of turning right onto the National one. From then on it was flat out all the way, can't exactly remember how I passed everyone but seem to recall I was able to get on the power out of Luffield much earlier than others & made a several passes down the S/F straight. Very relieved to recover to 2nd at the finish, was never going to catch Daz though. Race 2s first lap incident was just one of those that occur in sim racing because you can't see all around you. I was on the right of the track after Copse & Erling was on the left & just ahead, he moved right to take his line into Maggots not realising I was there & squeezed me onto the grass, resulting in me spinning out. So once again it was a case of driving as hard as possible to the finish. This time I didn't have to make so many on track passes as most of my position gains came from others off track escapades. So very pleased with 2nd again & at my general pace in the car here, much more competitive than at previous tracks in this car. Congrats to Daz & Erling on their wins. Not around next week as I will be travelling back from Le Mans, so see you all at Silverstone (again).
