Season 42 – F1 67 WORKS – Round 9 – MONTLHERY

The 9th round of the Season 42 takes us to Montlhéry near Paris, France.
Autodrome de Montlhéry (established 4 October 1924) is a motor racing circuit, officially called L’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, located south-west of the small town of Montlhéry about thirty kilometres (19 miles) south of Paris. It was initially called Autodrome Parisien, and had especially high banking. A road circuit was added in 1925.
The first race there, the 1925 French Grand Prix, was held on 26 July 1925 and organised by The Automobile Club de France Grand Prix. It was a race in which Robert Benoist in a Delage won; Antonio Ascari died in an Alfa Romeo P2. The Grand Prix revisited the track in 1927 and each year between 1931 and 1937.

Can't say I'm a great fan of this track. The "hole" at Lacets de Couard is a gamble every time I go through it. I managed to avoid a crash in practice here but in the race it caught me out. Incredible pace up front from Greg, Tris and Leo. I'm sure it will be a close finish.

Not my favourite track. I had a very lonely race narrowly missing a spinning Ferrari on about lap 5. Managed to hang on the end to grab 6th place. This is no reflection of my speed or driving skill. I just benefited from the high attrition rate. Better luck next time.

Same for me, though I like the other fast and slow sectors. At least I got some points out of it for the championship, now so close.

Congratulations Tristan and Doni! And congrats to all the survivors. This track can easily destroy a car in many different ways.

I can understand drivers not liking this track. I don´t care much for the section from Lacets de Couard to the next long straight. Phil, it´s the jump after the ¨hole¨ that often gets me. I could take less time in that section if I could do it in 2nd gear but I always down shifted to 1st gear in the race. I gave the lead the Tristan there on lap 2 and luckily I didn´t destroy my car. I also don´t care much for the braking at Virage de la Ferme or the turn at Epingle du Faye.

It took me a long time to start driving smoothly. Tristan´s Eagle really looked good on the straights. It´s amazing how it can outrun the Lotus on the straights. I could hit 194 mph before Lacets but I could see in Pribluda that Tristan was increasing the gap down the straights. I wondered if I would ever find a way to pass him. It didn´t take him too long to get tangled in the cones at the chicane. I thought that might decide the race and it was the deciding factor.

I managed to improve both my practice and race times. I didn´t expect that. I used a combination of my Montlhéry and Nassau setup from last season. I had an extra lap worth of fuel so I used it. With no pressure after the flag I did a 2:25.82 on my last unscored lap. I have a BRM and Ferrari setup for this track but for some reason I have no lap times I could find.

I´m happy I managed to get a 2nd win this season. After using so many tokens at Spa67 I doubted I would get 2 wins.

Leo looks to be in good shape for the finale. All he needs to do is finish with an undamaged car and he will surely be champion.

Thanks for the fun gentlemen. I appreciate it.

Nice job for the win, Greg.  Top marks.

Quite delighted to score a podium here as this circuit gives me a fright every lap.  Certainly lucky to finish in P3 acing out Jonny by a whisker in a dynamite finish.  Great recovery from your early spin, JJ.

Early laps, I think I was being a little overly-cautious and had Alain all over me in his Cooper.  A tap in the bum on Lap03 and a brief spin helped wake me up and get down to business.  Alain, sadly, had a rather dramatic exit later on skipping off over the banking in what must surely make the season-end news reel.

Some notable DNF's.  Poor Clive got tangled up in Jonny's spin and dropped well back after being right on my tail.  Later, a fearsome shunt on the exit to Les Quatre Bornes.  OUCH!  Fulvio high-centred on a berm as fallout from Jonny's spin and having the engine give up.  Leo and Phil falling victims to the treacherous 'yump'.

After I'd cleared Alain and enjoyed a comfy 12 second lead, on Lap11, my pitboard flashed me that now Jonny was next man down.  Knowing full well that he was clearly faster, I upped my pace in an effort to maintain my place.  I had to watch as each lap, I was signaled that JJ was closing in.  On Lap18, I cut a 2m30.877s lap which was light-years faster than anything I'd previously managed but it only just kept me ahead of Jonny now filling my mirrors.  The last lap and I made a rather hash of it by missing apexes and sliding wildly under power coming off the obscenely tight hairpin, Epingle du Faye.  JJ was right on my tail and following me off the last chicane losing out by only 32/1000s.  PHEW!  Doesn't get much closer.  Not unlike the finish to 1962 French Grand Prix at Rouen, Jonny and I shunted just passed the S/F line.

It must be noted here that Jonny, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, took the time to try and nudge Fulvio off the berm on Lap02.  He couldn't have known that Fulvio's engine had already give up the ghost.  If it weren't for those precious seconds spent in trying to rescue Fulvio, surely JJ would have nailed down that final podium placing.  Three cheers for Jonny!  Smiley

I have a sum of 354 points. If I score 0 points next round, it will be discarded as my worst result. Greg can only reach 337. Am I right?

You are almost right. If you score zero in the final round then yes, your total will be 354. However, if Greg wins the final round and scores 50 points, he can only increase his total by 35 (because he has to drop his two lowest scores, a zero and a 15). So the maximum Greg can score is actually 322.

There are no unmoderated incidents that involve you so any pending mod reports will not reduce your points total. So yes, you are the champion Leo! Many congratulations, well deserved; you have been outstanding all season  thumbup2 thumbup2 clap clap I Am Not Worthy I Am Not Worthy

First of all congratulations to the winner Greg, he really was in a fantastic rhythm!!!
And of course the icing on the cake is with the title of Leo !!! it will be cool to see your helmet in the GPLBrasil champions gallery too!
And finally, how can I not remember my hunt for the Brabham of my friend Doni. My lotus had a lot of advantage and I got closer and the end was very tight, congratulations Doni!!!!!
