Track: Silverstone (GP)

RACE ONE
Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (10 mins)
Race: 20:30 (15 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Not required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Driver's must complete over 50% race distance to score points.

Tony, puzzled about race length. As far as I can tell, this is the same version of Silverstone as the one we used previously in the series, on 31/10/22.  However, those races were 15 laps, while these are only 10.  Am I missing something, or is the track the same & races meant to be shorter?

Your correct Erling. The OP was copied from the previous races (10 laps) and I forgot to change it. Well spotted!

OP is now corrected.

I think I must have encountered a bit of Cliveitis, we have reached the end of a series & I have finally got the car competitive. In most races with the Escort Cossy I have struggled with the car's handling so have not been competitive & often unable to keep the thing pointing in the right direction. It has got better in the last 2 or 3 races but not until this last event have I been able to trouble Daz.

The first race started with a bit of an error on cold tyres taking to the grass at Becketts. After recovering back up to 2nd (thanks for waving me past Erling  thumbup1) I was around 5-6s behind Daz, pushed hard to try to close the gap but it resolutely stayed much the same for the rest of the race. Encouraging though that I was able to match Daz's pace.

Second race was an epic. Daz & I both started lesiurely so were at the back for most of lap 1 with me just ahead, it stayed that way until we caught up with Clive & Erling in 1st & 2nd. They proved trickier to pass than in race 1 & when I had to ease slightly to avoid bumping Erling it allowed Daz to get past me. We both found a way past Clive & Erling shortly after & had a great battle for the rest of the race. My setup seemed to give me the edge in the faster turns while Daz had the advantage in the slower corners, particularly the Vale & Club section. Nearly managed to get ahead on a couple of occasions but eventually Daz just prevailed.

Congrats to Daz on the race wins & the championship & congrats also to Erling on two podiums & 2nd in the championship.  clap clap clap

Cracking end to the series.

Great quali session. I got the impression that it would be tight, and so it proved. Geoff pulled out a stonking lap to take pole, I was on one that would have been really close, but ran out of time in the session, got my timing wrong for once....

As Geoff said, he ran wide on cold tires on lap 1, and that was kind of that. He did then prove to have great pace as he said, and I wasn't really able to pull away much at all.

Race 2, softly softly at the start, let the race settle a touch. It got to be a flying foursome at the front, Clive, Erling, Geoffers and myself. Geoff was keenly lining up a pass on Erling, who was trying to defend whilst also looking to get past Clive, who was defending his line well. I could see that I had an advantage in Club, and when both Erling and Geoff went wide I went tight, and got the power on early, driving up the inside of both. Then made a move on Clive, hoping to get that done quick to have a little breathing room. Geoff was quickly passed though, and the gap was only 1 second or so.

What followed was a proper race. I knew I had the drive in Club, but Geoffers was very much quicker through Becketts-Maggots, and therefore onto Hanger, meaning a move was possible in Stow. He was then also quicker into and out of Stow, meaning I was under pressure into Vale, which was negating my advantage in Club a touch. He was then quicker into Abbey, I had good drive through Bridge though to hold him back, but he was then quicker into Luffield/Brooklands. I was quicker out of the final complex, but slower through Copse. It was a real nip and tuck situation, I could just barely hold him off if I got just enough of a spoiler on his lines, and maximised my drive on every corner, but it was really hard work. The smallest of errors on the fast stuff put my on the back foot, Geoff did get alongside on Hanger into braking for Stow once, and we did rub paint into Vale once, but mostly was just flat out with 0.3 to 0.8 seconds between us through most of the rest of the race, we both did very much our best laps in this race, faster than the initial qualifying runs....

Greta fun all round. I have enjoyed this car, so if we use it again that will be welcome for sure.

Great series, thank you for the organisation Tony, and grats to all.

Grats to the podiums and to Daz and Erling for the season success.

Just like Geoffers said, last races of the season and I finally found some reasonable pace. Unfortunately that pace sort of put me behind the alien triumvirate, but ahead of the rest of us mere mortals, in a sort of no-man's land.

Race 1 slowly developed to leave me marooned behind the leaders and far enough ahead of the rest of the field to have quite an uneventful and lonely outing. Trundled in 4th, so not even a taste of champagne for all my hard work....well it was hard for me!!

Race 2 and the handicapped grid placed me on pole  scared alongside Tony who has always been quicker off the line in these machines. Somehow I managed to hang on through Copse to keep the front position, but I was under no illusion that the tentacle waving, green scaly skinned brigade would be swarming all over my a** anytime soon. My first target was to hold the lead for at least a single lap and claim some degree of success lol.

I managed that just ahead of Erling who was beginning to press me for a passing opportunity and I could see on my HUD, that Geoffers and Daz  were lining up behind him. As I said above ...Final Race and I was able to actually drive the car at last, still 2-3 secs a lap off the pace of the fast boys but it appeared it was just fast enough to prevent an "easy" pass if I held my lines etc. As a result I think I made it to lap 5 before Erling got past ( but he might just have been feeling sorry for me?). Geoffers and Daz soon followed and it would have been foolish of me to be too aggressive in my defending as they were clearly much faster than me and I had zero chance of staying ahead until the flag. For the rest of the race I just about kept Erling in sight, it's a good job that I had binoculars on the dashboard!!, until the final laps when a couple of small errors dropped me back to a lonely no-man's land.

These cars are now (almost) fun to drive, but I still cannot convince myself that they will "stick" when I throw them at a corner at a ludicrous speed and that the engine will not detonate as it hits the rev limiter.

Thanks Tony for organising and good to see Dan back on track. I also hope that Kurt is feeling better after his problems.

Two quite nondescript races for me.

Race 1 the usual pecking order was temporarily upset, when Geoffers went off on L1, lending me the 2nd spot.  When he caught up, I waved him past. Uncharactaristically of me, but given our night & day skill difference here, it seemed pretty pointless to attempt racing him, and I thought I would let him continue unhindered towards chasing Daz; would have been refreshing to see another race winner for a change (sorry Daz  whistling).  With that I was in the same no-mans-land as Clive, just a little further ahead. So basically a lonely & rather boring race.

Race 2 I got a great start, jumping several drivers including the two aliens. Was battling Tony for 2nd already after the first corners. Found a way past later on L1, now chasing Clive in the lead.  Didn't take long for Daz & Geoffers to catch up. No freebees this time, so now we had a  - brief - 4-way battle for the lead.  Not that the two gents needed any help getting past; both Clive & I were dispatched like mere footnotes. About a lap later I found a way past Clive, getting a better exit out of Copse and then slipping ahead into Maggotts (no feeling sorry I can assure you Clive; had to work for it..  Smiley).  Rest of the race much like the first, growing ever lonelier with each lap.

Grats to Daz on two more wins, Geoffers for the 2nds, and to Daz on an untouchable Series win.

Like the car a lot as others have stated.  Thanks to Tony for the setup & to Matt for server emergency services.
