- Netcode isn't good. Or it's the settings of other people.

Will be interested to see what it's like on our game server. I would also really like to see RACE 07 Demo on our server as the public ones I've tried have been pants and that must be down to the clients/server on those events, as I simply can't believe the lag etc is that bad.

It has been released: check it out here:

http://www.10tacle.de/download.php/bmw/BMW_M3_Challenge.exe

345.9MB

Hmm, it's running at 17k/sec, so I think I'll wait till it's available somewhere that has a download speed somewhere in the 21st century, like here...
http://www.gamershell.com/download_20944.shtml at Gamershell at 478k/sec. Grin

Thats really strange that they used the GTL game engine instead of GTR2  Huh Wonder what the reasoning behind that was?

And you would think that with a tie in with a major car make like BMW and for a simulated prestigious flagship car like the M3 they would get the damage modelling and famous Nurburgring exactly right.  Roll Eyes
Have they used a pre modded track made by one of the community or created their own supposed realistic version of the Ring?
I would download it just for that, got no interest in the car, the E30? M3 was the only one that floated my boat.

It's the GTL version, hence the bad FPS on the main straight.

It's the GP circuit not the Nordschliefe. I think it actually has poorer FPS than the GTL version tbh. It looks a bit unpolished as a game, but then it is free.

I suspect it uses GTL because Blimey! probably have no rights to GTR2 at all.

I would imagine so - SimBin still have the FIA GT license so I can't imagine Blimey! will! be! able! to! do! anything! else! with! the! GTR2! engine!.

Perhaps the engine is more in line with GTR2 (I've heard it uses the timetrials, ghost, etc), and it's just the track that is from GTL?

Haven't installed it yet, but still wondering what on Earth justified the mid-6-figure sum! Smiley

That's small beer compared to the rest of BMW's marketing budget...

"BMW M3 Challenge" opens pit lane for international online contest

October 26th the light goes green on the race for great prizes – the applications period starts this weekend!

Darmstadt, October 12th 2007 – 10TACLE STUDIOS AG and automobile manufacturer BMW today issue an invitation to officially qualify for the international „BMW M3 Challenge“ online contest. The freeware game from racing specialists Blimey!Games allows up to 15 drivers per race to go head-to-head and test their skills against one another in 420 hp virtual "BMW M3 Coupés".

The official contest starts on October 26th and offers attractive prizes for the "the fastest of the fast"! In addition to an extremely powerful, new generation Dell XPSTM gamer laptop for the winner, finalists can look forward to an authentic reproduction of the "BMW Sauber F1 Team" steering wheel for PC from Intel and Logitech, as well as an autographed original racing suit from "BMW Sauber F1 Team" driver Nick Heidfeld and other valuable prizes!

The application period at www.m3-challenge.com runs until the 19th of October, after which more of 1,000 international participants will be drawn by lot from the applicant pool. Close to 100 races will determine the best driver in a shootout process with the winner moving on to the next round, where they will have to face ever more difficult conditions. Races vary from between 5 and 25 rounds in length. In an exciting finale at the beginning of January the finalists will battle it out live for the title of "M3 Challenge World Champion"!

The authentic racing feel of the “BMW M3 Challenge” is based on the international game success “GT Legends” award-winning technology, which was customized to du-plicate this year’s M3 model in collaboration with the BMW engineers. The car’s performance, sound effects, visuals and the detailed reproduction of one of the most demanding racetracks in Europe, the Nürburgring, provide a thrilling, realistic test drive experience of the new sports car under racing conditions.

Effective immediately all those interested can find details on conditions for participa-tion, rules and the schedule for the online challenge on the official website at www.m3-challenge.com.

You could always hope the aliens are not lucky enough to be drawn from the hat to even compete in the first instance.    Not even had a look at this yet so no idea if it's good or if i'm any good at it.
