Overall the race was great, qualified 9th behind Paul and less than .01 ahead of BACKO.  Despite the cold temperature I stuck with loads of fuel and mediums for the race.

After the carnage of the opening lap, (The leader should aim for a target speed on the straights of around 75mph, not 175mph Tongue Roll Eyes), I was struggling to keep in touch with Paul for the first few laps.  My front tyres were under 60 degrees with the low track temperature, and after 7 or 8 laps Don had closed right up on me.  We had a good battle for a few laps and in the end he made a good move stick through turn 1 Smiley  A couple of laps later I had a similar battle with BACKO, great racing and very close and fair.  Mo was closing on both of us, BACKO got a great run on me down the s/f straight but broke slightly too late into T1 and wisely didn't try to turn in fully- flashing me back by on the exit afterwards.  I think then he and Mo got into a tussle, and I was able to pull away slightly, but it was a great few laps Cool

Around lap 15 I suddenly found some more speed, the track temperature was climbing and my front tyres were behaving better.  By this time, Don had overtaken Paul and I managed to get passed into T1 after a few laps of chasing.  I was amazed how much earlier the RS needs to be on the brakes!  At half way the car was still quick, I was able to be within a tenth or two of my fastest lap every time round.

I steadily gained places as everyone pitted, ending up leading for a lap Grin before pitting with just under 20 minutes left.  I totally messed up my stop, I only needed a small amount of fuel and I took new tyres when I really didn't need to, and I forgot to turn the engine off too Embarrassed ended up taking almost 50 seconds which is shocking Shocked Sad maybe my pitcrew had been at the legends alcohol stash while waiting for me to come in laugh

I came out of the pits right in front of Pete who had Don right behind him, but I had just enough time to get into T1 in front.  Jeff was way in front, I had no hope of catching him but I put in some fast laps trying to pull a gap on Don.  Then TT had two more pitstops which put me in 6th.  Don was about 7 seconds behind in 7th, when I noticed my engine health was very very bad Shocked so I backed off as much as I dared for the last few laps and thankfully the engine lasted Cool

Very happy with 6th, and 2nd in class behind Jeff who was as fast as ever Cheesy

As the pitstops approached though the tyres were starting to wilt, and Zacari was biting at my heels. In the end he made a clean pass into T1, and i was just thinking about pitting when he broke earlier than I expected at the 2nd chicane and I had to go off track to avoid rear-ending him. After extracting myself from the gravel I then compounded things by overshooting Lesmo 2, purely because I was chuntering away about the daft mistake a few corners before  Roll Eyes By the time I was up to speed, Zacari was long gone and I was fighting for 3rd at best.

I'd forgotten about that Embarrassed, I was having to be careful into the 2nd chicane as I'd already had a cut warning there, and the TVR was really unsettled over the bumps under that bridge.  I appreciate you missing me anyway Smiley though of course that's scant consolation Sad

Grats to Jon, Jeff and Dave for their class wins Cool

Well that was one of my best showings so far in any season. The Beemer was a delight to drive here at Monza (thanks to Adam for the set-up).
I really enoyed this race, the ballast system really seemed to work well and gave us mortals a chance of being able to stay in fairly close contention with our faster rivals.
Dicing with the likes of Zacari and Paul968 (even though they were in the GTC class lol) was just great knowing that I still had to make clean passes on them to get by.
The only scew up's I made (that I can remember) was almost losing it at the fast Varantie and causing MJ to lock up and go off, "sorry Mark" and a lack luster pit-stop of 52 seconds!
Well next onto Adria where the M3 will not shine Undecided

Think I lucked in to a better result than I deserved! I was slowest of the GTC pack in qually and only 0.2 secs ahead of GT3 pole. I also knew my race pace would probably be best part of 2 secs a lap slower so was worried I would get mixed up in their battles, which as it turned out was not really an issue.

Will in his GT2 passed me on the first flying lap and I guess with the draft he gave me and the fact the brakes / tyres were still cold I locked the brakes in to the first chicane at the start of race lap 2. Got a cut warning and, no fault of Will's, got turned around and found myself between 2 GT3s. Dave in front. Lucky for me Dave was in dominant mood last night and was driving away from the rest of the GT3s. My pace was such I wasn't quick enough to make an easy pass to I followed Dave until he made a small mistake at Lesmo 2 and gifted me back the place.

Then it was just to concentrate on my strategy, run long, make no mistakes and with luck I could make the race without extra fuel or tyres. For a change I didn't bin the Morgan and hit some armco resulting in a puncture so ran as long as I dared.

Sorry for 'getting in the way' Paul. I thought you were coming through and I tried to leave room, then saw you spinning in the mirror. I was still in a hurry as I had no idea where I would reappear after my pit visit. In the end I beat Reign Man by only a couple of secs and he had much better pace. With my worn tyres I was struggling for the last few laps through the Parabolica and would not have been in a position to defend. I was so relieved we didn't do one more lap.

Hopefully my pace might be more competitive at the next round, but I'm not sure I didn't gel with the circuit at the fun race there  Undecided

Congratulations to everyone, especially the podium chaps.

No problem at all Pete - you had your race to run too. I as just trying to explain why I was rather eager to get past! I'd spent the last few laps pushing myself to close the gap, and I should have realised that there was plenty of time and held back looking for a good exit from Ascari. Sorry if I gave you a scare.

when i meet Bill  whistling  eek dont know what to tell you mate.  sweatdrop
You just almost stop in the midlle, i know your intention was the best, but at the S/F straight,
its a bit danger brake like that, to first chicane, i was very scared  scared scared scared
hit you and got a stop and go  surrender i guess your car were bad, as you left race.

Cheers

I was conscious I was holding you up and tried to brake and run off line to the outside of the turn - but got it seriously wrong (again).  Sorry.

Again, sorry for the warm up lap.
But when your a mid grid driver and you suddenly find yourself at the front of the grid with the likes of Simon,Brian and ruskus behind you,its abit overwhelming. Not that I'm biggin up you guys.
But its alot of pressure,my nerves had gone to pot.I was sweating badly before the race had started.
If i ever get pole again,I'll do you all a favour and let 2nd place do the warm up.Cause to be fair,i prefer to follow on that lap.

Anyway,1st stint went great, pulled out a good lead in the 1st couple of laps.
But i could see why, watching the 3 way battle behind me.
After that it was a lonely affair.
I just concentrated on my consistency and that where my problem lies.
No mistakes in the 1st stint, which I'm proud of,thats an achievement for me.

2nd stint went well.
Pitted as scheduled and came out 7th.
got back up to 3rd and then it seemed a lifetime before going past TT and Zacari, didn't think they was ever going to pit.
I managed to get 2 cautions on my 1st lap out of the pits, due to the fact i was still flooring it on cold tyres.
So the pressure was on me again not to get another and cop the dreaded stop and go.
No worries about the next race Simon, because Ive a feeling that was a one off race for me,so no pressure.

Well chuffed with the win and the lap records

Took the 360 modena last night and had a great battle with Mark Jonzo and then Pedro Silva early on, followed by some close fair racing with Backo. At one point myself BAcko and Zac all arrived at T1 at the same time. Backo tried a move down the inside but outbraked himself and ran across the chicane, but eased off to give the place back. Could see you were worried about me taking advantage Backo as you eased off , twas why I flashed my lights to let you go and we continued the battle.
Also had a comical moment with Picnic as I exited the pits where we both tried to let each other go first through T1, kinda 'after you, no I insist you first' and ' no after you sir' until we both almost stopped in the middle of T1 Cheesy Cheesy

I was really enjoying it and with a full tank of fuel I was in for a reasonable finish.
Controller problems and a nasty crash(someone call an ambulance) down the Ascari straight put an end to the race though. Haven't had much look with enduro lately so hope I can get to the end of the next one!

Grats to John, Ruskus and the podiums Cool

No worries John. You'll be ready next time I'm sure. You have the pace for the top of the grid so I expect it won't be your last pole!

Not that I'm biggin up you guys.

I'm embarrased to say I'm only 32, but I'm clearly too far detached from current culture to know what "biggin up" means. Give us a clue. Grin
