Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 38s

Blunder thinks it's a rolling start and completely fails to move at the start for over 5 seconds, causing chaos as other cars have to brake and swerve to avoid him.

Server replay time: 45s

As the start goes, Mike Hammer spins across the track right into the path of Jebstone Boppman. Jebstone has nowhere to go and crashes into Mike.

This is a dangerous place to spin, at the front at the start of a race, and should be avoided.

  • Mike Hammerpenalty — Self spin with contact — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 49s

Just as the field is leaving start Mike Hammer spins. He's then waiting at one side of the track. Then as Tibernius is approaching him, he just rams into Mikes parked car.

  • Tiberniuspenalty — Lack of care approaching an incident — 3 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 205s

Morten is looking at the inside of MJ, locks a wheel and makes slight contact before backing off. Mike Hammer runs into the back of him as a result. Mike then gets tagged himself by Mr BMW.

Mike is a quick driver but spun under his own steam during the start and then failed to take account of being at the back of the pack when estimating safety margins.

  • Mike Hammercaution — contact with Morten
  • MortenS (Morten)caution — contact with Marc Jonzo
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded
  • Mr.BMW (Jebstone Boppman)caution — contact with Mike Hammer
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 1520s

Madd-RIP has just passed PRibeiro and is closing fast on Ruskus. As they approach the 3rd to last turn, Madd-RIP brakes late and touches Ruskus' rear, forcing Ruskus off the track. Madd-RIP spins, and PRibeiro passes both for the lead.

This should be avoided as Madd is closing this fast he would have had plenty of opportunities to pass later. However I choose to see this as simply missing his braking zone.

  • Madd-RIPpenalty — Rear-ending — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 2100s

Tibernius spins in turn 1, in the middle of the ideal racing line. He then spins the car around ending up outside the racing line, but still on the track. Then he's slowly driving down into the racing line just infront of Baracus.

Try to get up to speed and check mirrors before getting back into the traffic. If' you'd just kept your car in the outside throught this turn, the rest of the traffic would have time to adapt to your speed.

  • Tiberniuspenalty — Bad Rejoin — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 2213s

After passing Tibernius, Madd-RIP misses braking and gois off the track. He then rejoins behind Tibernius, as they are closing the last turn. In the final turn Tibernius slows down, as he thinks Madd is passing him on the outside, which he is not. Madd is trying the use Tibernius' draft. So when tibernius is slowing Madd has nowhere to go but straight into Tibernius' rear end.

Never do unexpected things like this when a car is as close as this. I can't believe you didn't see him in your mirrors, but if you don't, don't do anything untill you're sure where the drivers around you are. You could also flash your lights to let him know to pass you.

  • Tiberniuspenalty — Dangerous behavior — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

At the start you cannot see the lights in the 906 if you are on pole!! That's a nice advantage! The roof is in the way its so bloomin low! This has happened quite a fe times now that you can't see the lights form pole on various tracks.

So that put me on the back foot, then got a hit from behind into T1 and was down to 14th.

Good thing you can activate visual start countdown, then.

Yeah, I know how you feel. It's so much more interesting when it's as close to real as possible. But you know in real life drivers would find a way to see or hear the start sequence.

I play with Countdown timer and Player Names on. Realistically i'm sure I would have a spotter telling me if I was lapping, or comming up on a lapee.

I don't know what to say. I think this is the first time ever that I've spun the 906 on the start line. And I think it's the first time this year that I've done it in any car. Very sorry. I had left the auto-clutch on, and I usually do all starts without it. Dunno if that was the cause or what, but bloody embarrassing. And Tib, if you hit me at the start, it was my fault, not yours. Apologies.

After the bad start my steering was off center a little bit, but the car seemed okay and did pretty much what I told it to do (like fishtail off the track at the exit from T4, twice).

I also gave Morten a tap at T4 at some point, and got a simultaneous tap there myself. Apologies to you as well. I guess you were cursing when sitting still on the grass afterwards, because surely you weren't waiting for me to get back on first?

So, for my own part, not so pleased. Still, had a fun duel with Boppman, too bad it ended like it did. I was really looking forward to seeing if you'd leave me room at the same place (between T6 and T7) as the first time  Smiley

Hi Marc

The two cars coming together was because I had spun in front of them and was going backwards along the straight. They were trying to avoid me. Sorry you got caught up in it. As i said it was the only time I got that bit wrong, and it caused chaos. Sorry for that.

Please submit incident reports using the "Submit an incident report" link underneath the results table for this event or click HERE.

There seemed to be a lot of incidents last night especially the first few laps so I will expect to see lots of incident reports. We must improve the driving standard shown as it's going in the wrong direction at the moment and we need your help to improve the standard of driving.

There are methods in the incident moderation system to incidate that you don't want the other person to get a penalty and this will be taken into account when the incident is moderated. Please don't be afraid to submit an incident report as it helps us all race in a safer environment where we can all feel more comfortable that we are more concerned with racing together without hurting people's races and evenings than we are with getting one more position in the results.

These races are 40 minutes and all care should be taken to avoid making contact. If you think it's a risky manoever then don't do it, just be patient and wait. Something all of us hate hearing, but has to be said...if it means slowing down to avoid contact then SLOW DOWN!

THanks all, not quite the result i'd hoped for but a really enjoyable first race still.

I particularly liked this bit " mr_oily overtakes [POOdle]Keith, Morten, Syd Drake, Martin 'Blunder' Mason, Steve Holmes, Marc Jonzo, Jebstone Boppman, Bernie Lomax, Dan minton, Mike Hammer, [POOdle]Andy, [GS]Baracus and ends the lap in position 6." hahaha.

Ok so that was a bit flattering due to errors but had some good tussles near the start despite being clearly a little off the pace.

Andy, don't know what happened with your Porsche but one minute it was stopped in the middle of the track and the next it was flying at me from the clouds lol, was running a steady 10th determined to retake Dan Minton and ya Porker bounced us both clean off! Dodgy Net connection?

I've got absolutely no clue as to why I was DQ'd on lap 17, can anyone shed any light? I was cutting that last turn close to the pit wall occasionally but I believed that to be cool provided I wasn't close enough to risk stuffing it?

Unlucky Tony but nice one for finishing Tibs....next time!!

Cheers,

J

P.s - I'm in favour of standing starts for what its worth. Yes there's a little more uncertainty and nobody wants to see repeats of last night, but i think it just needs to be stressed that this is something EVERYONE should perhaps practice before a race.

You were given three cut warnings and did not come in to do your stop and go.

It was cool from the league's POV, but the game provides the cut checking for the most part, so you can't just ignore when the game warns you for cutting or when it gives you the black flag to go and do a stop and go.

Thanks for the clarification Simon, odd though as not one warning displayed in the cockpit or i'd definitely have been straight in.

Had loads of grief getting the add-ons working and ended up reinstalling so i'm guessing whatever flag needs checking for in game notices, it wasn't! It did cross my mind but i got one in qually so presumed all was ok.

Cheers,

J

You will get an in-game chat message and an audible warning from "the crew" when you get a cut warning. I got one warning last night I think when I ran off track at one point. They can be missed if you're in the thick of things of course, although I suspect the stop and go request is more obvious (although I think I've only ever had one or two so not much experience Wink).

I only get messages for warnings in GTL, I don't get the pit crew telling me like in GTR2. Is there a setting I need to change for that?

Dunno, might just be my memory playing tricks on me. You might be right on that (no pit crew speech).

with regards to standing starts, i am still in favour of them but must admit since the GTL league has re-gained its popularity, some bad driving/standards have crept in. I first advocated them when we had a good group of regulars last season, who all behaved well and used some track discipline, as opposed to last night where it looked like a hell for leather free for all. Roll Eyes
Some seemed to just batter their way through the corners last night with no attempt at lifting off, i guess knowing that the poor damage modelling of GTL allows them to do so  Sad
(is there no way of upping the damage modelling for the server in any of the GTL game files?)
One other method i have seen used over at R2P is a 'sin-bin' procedure whereby if you have any hard contact with a car in front on lap1 (only)then you have to do a stop and go. It certainly makes everyone a bit more cautious and not try to win the race on lap 1.
These races are 40 minutes long, there is no need for the absolute melee that happened on the opening two laps last night.
 Sad
The other thing i suggested last time this happened was using some judicial savvy and making it a rolling start when there is a very nasty T1 involved, as there was here.

It was just opening out into a sensible race as the grid panned out on lap 4 when i unfortunately got launched skywards by a big incident right in front of me involving 2 or 3 cars. Shocked
Otherwise i would have had a good race despite my car already being bent into a 50 pence piece by the numerous early whacks. :'(

I don't believe this was any more difficult a T1 than you normally get. There was a decent run up to it and plenty of time for people to be sensible. All race circuits are the same...you accelerate hard with cold tyres and brakes into a first corner where you have to brake.

Because you are doing a different speed to how you normally entere T1, have cold machinery and are not used to the different braking points and styles of the different model cars around you, everybody's braking points and cornering speeds are trial and error (unless you've practiced some standing starts before hand). This means you have to expect the unexpected. It's no use saying "I didn't expect him to brake there", cause you should expect anything on Lap 1 and especially T1 and be prepared to not sit as close or back off or SLOW DOWN!!
