Moderator's Report

Baracus250GT started with a different driving name from the one the ballast system expected, and was thus 25kg lighter than he should have been.

This was a genuine mistake, and this being the first sseason we've run driver ballasts, also without precedent, a penalty must be applied, but will not carry any penalty points as it was not a driving standards violation.

The penalty has, somewhat arbitrarily been calculated as a time in seconds added on which is equal to the race length in minutes, multiplied by the multiples of 10 kilograms underweight; that gives 40*(25/10), or 100 seconds.

This may be a little harsh but the system clearly states the expected driving name in the same place as the event's password, and is totally reliant on the driver using the correct name in order to work properly. Therefore the penalty must have an element of punitive measure about it.

A lot of curb-climbing from multiple driver. Some more than other, but due to no reports about this and the bad in-game detection at this track, I'll just give a public warning that railriding or corner cutting is not allowed.

The rules states that all wheel shall be in the road at all times.

Server replay time: 208s

Stewprovo's driving on the pace lap was pretty erratic and culminated in an off and contact with another car shortly after the rejoin. This is obviously undesirable.

  • Stewprovoadvice — more caution on the pace lap

Server replay time: 492s

Stewprovo is in front of PRibeiro, closely followed by Dave Gymer. Stewprovo misses the exit in the last turn, causing PRibeiro to close up and trying to pass on the inside. As Stewprovo sees that, he tries to block by moving slowly towords the pit wall, forcing contact with PRibeiro who has nowhere to go. Stewprovo then misses through turn 1 letting PRibeiro and Dave pass.

This is considered blocking and is not allowed.

  • Stewprovowarning — Blocking
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 536s

Closing on a hairpin turn, Stewprovo tries to pass both Dave Gymer and PRibeiro by moving to the inside during braking and braking late. He miscalculates and divebombs PRibeiro. He then continues . PRibeiro spins due to this massive hit, letting Dave Gymer to pass PRibeiro.

  • Stewprovopenalty — Over-Ambitious Overtake — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 1959s

Paul968 is closely followed by Dave Gymer and PRibeiro down the long straight before the first hairpin, when PRibeiro is moving on the inside of Dave. Paul is probably trying his best to keep Dave behind, and Dave is probably trying to pass and keep PRibeiro behind. This causes Paul to lock up when braking hard for the hairpin, which in turn causes Dave to divebomb him in the turn as he can't slow enough down and is forced to try and go on the inside, which fails. PRibeiro then rightfully passes both, but Dave lets Paul pass just down the road.

Yes that is weird - I am sure I read somewhere (can't find it now) that I had +25kg for this race but the results above show -10kg. Maybe I am getting confused with a different class?

It shows your name in red which indicates that you joined under a different name from what it was expecting - which is shown in the ballast list just before the race after the ballast file has been generated. I didn't note what you had in the game - given that you ended up starting from the back and didn't finish it's not really important.

Hmmm. Thats odd then becuase I didn't change profiles - I was running my normal colours of [R24-7]Baracus.
Also I did finish the race (this one you meant?) in 6th...

Dave,

I use AVG and am getting similar stutters online at Hockenheim during the last week. I'm pretty sure it wasn't doing that before. I have put it down to my aging PC up to now but it usually runs GTR2 fine.

I have the free version of AVG and update regularly. Perhaps one of these updates is to blame. I see Comodo has a beta virus checker for download. I use their firewall and am happy with it so might give it a try.

You did the last fun race at Hockenheim using just "Baracus" which reset your expected driving name - it would've told you what name it was expecting and given you the chance to correct it in the event details (next to the password and also in the ballasts) before the event.

With the ballast process it's really important to use a consistent driving name!

Also I did finish the race (this one you meant?) in 6th...

You're right - good job you started from the back then or we might be trying to work out how to penalise you for running light! Tongue

sorry had to rush off a see a girlie after the race!  Kiss

that was so fun much but quite disappointing for Kerr and me when he disco'd Undecided I don't feel confident I could have won had he stayed cos he was quicker enough in all the right places, I found it quite a tricky track to overtake on....it might of looked like I wasn't having a go Brian but I just never had an opportunity! Fantastic driving under that pressure you didn't put a wheel wrong ( censored ) and you had 50kg  Shocked more than me so that explains the braking and exit speeds!  Smiley

I've had my fair share of discos recently hence my -20kg ballast I believe and as you saw the annoying qualifying session where I was lucky to 'nick' 2nd but Baracus wasn't quite as fortunate after losing his very quick time!!! When you discod i did hit your car Brian and did go off but on those last corners there is no kitty litter thankfully only lost 2 secs....can't be helped. no

I'm really chuffed with my first win outside of last years Academy series  Smiley Smiley Smiley and as then......Paul Richards was still right behind me (even tho he's usually right in front! hehe)

thank god Ruskus has 60kg, would be embarrassing for us GT2's if a GTC won lol  laugh and grats to Madd-Rip on his win

I think I've been 'Gymered' (or is it Sharked?). Had the edge in class in qual, and in the race managed at first to stay closer to the GT2s than the chasing GTCS. Then Simon came zooming up in a rather rapid Morgan and was past fairly quickly. When he went sideways on the exit of T1 I assumed he would keep his foot in and the car would go right, but he went hard on the brakes instead and stopped dead on the racing line  scared  scared scared By the time my brain had registered this it was far too late and I ploughed into him. I fully expected a broken splitter at the very least, but I got the car moving again and amazingly it seemed OK. By this time Madd and Ruskus had gone and Stew was not far behind, so I tried to push to get back in contention, but the car really didn't want to know. Although it wasn't terrible, the car understeered in all the wrong places, and instead of catching Jeff I was having to fend off Stew. He passed me at the hairpin with a very late lunge (I think he missed his braking point, but I saw him coming and stayed wide), and then it was Dave behind. Not long after he had a bit of a run out of T1, dived down the inside and found my car already there. I'm a bit confused when you say you got caught out under braking Dave - there was no tyre smoke or anything?  Anyway, Darren, Dan and PRibeiro went past and Dave waited, so I then had several laps chasing Darren and fending Dave off again. Dan ran out of fuel, and I was hoping for a last lap charge at Darren when Dave looked down the inside at T1 and forced me to stay wide and the chance was gone. Very surprised you tried that Dave - you managed to cut both the apex and exit curbs in one corner!

4th in the end isn't a disaster, but this was a race I had a chance to win and there won't be many more opportunities to close the points gap to JR (great times btw with all that ballast). Congrats to Madd-RIP and Purdie for the class wins and to PaulR for a good 2nd to keep him in the GT2 hunt.

I didn't think I'd get another bite at you - it was about the only place I had a big advantage over you, anywhere else would've been a mad lunge down the inside under braking. If I'd managed to not cut the inside curbs I'd have been okay.

AVG has been fine for me, no unexpected stutters. I have a paid for version. Don't bother with Anti-spyware, it's a waste of time.

Dave, to use your terminology, if you'd made a pass stick after going that wide, I'd call that urine extraction.

That was a great race last night really enjoyed it! Was a bit off the times I expected to get in qually, was doing low 40s in practice thinking I might sneak into the 39s but was struglling to even get in the 40s. Ended up 5th just in front of TT and behind MJ and RR all on similar times around mid 40s.

With the GTCs just behind TT I decided to go for my Med-Med setup which was slower at the start but held up much better over the full 40 mins. Initially thought this was a mistake as TT breezed by in the opening laps with teamie Paul staying close in my mirrors in his ballasted GTC RS. I could see Purdie and Brian battling on the horizon and MJ and RR really going at it so decided to try and keep tabs with them and look after the tryes. With them battling away I only fell back a few seconds and my car was getting better as the race went on.

At about half way I started to reel in the 3 car battle in front and attacked TT. He got a big slide under power on the exit of the hairpin and I was able to get by. We then both took to the gravel to avoid Brian's disco'd car but I lost less time than TT which took the pressure off a bit. I then starting closing quickly on RR and MJ who were still going at it and both seemed to be pushing their tyres hard and RRs BMW looked quite ragged at the rear. MJ then had his unfortunate gear shift moment and spun in the lost corner. Lost a bit of time being careful not to collect him and began to chase down RR. My car was getting faster and faster and was willing the race to go on and with no motec wasn't sure how long was left. My tyres were in much better nick than RRs but he was driving the wheels off it wheelspinning out of turn 2 and the hairpin and catching big slides all the time! On the last lap (not that I knew it at the time) I got a good exit of turn 2 and got a good tow down the long straight. RR defended to the right approaching the hairpin so I went by on the left and broke late as I knew I had to leave room on the inside anyway. Went round on the outside of the hairpin and was able to get the power down before RR as he couldn't slide wide into me and made the pass.

Congrats to purdie and madd for the wins. Was hoping for a few more laps see if I could renew our battle from season 4 Andy but it wasn't to be. Great drive mate  thumbup1  Unlucky to teamie Paul for getting caught up when Simon spun but congrats to Stew on a good solid drive. Many thanks to TT, MJ and RR on a great race.

that was a cool tactical drive PR  Cool

I had kept a wary eye on you in my mirrors the whole race as your car looked like it was poised to strike the moment me and RR had any coming together or offs, which we didnt until my gear dilemna late on. Even when i chased hard after you and TT i was watching your gap time on the Xpd thingy and could see you had made a late charge in the race to assault RR...after i had got him to wear his tyres out fending me off  Wink
I wanted to RR to beat you for the sake of the team points but i tip my hat to a great drive as you nabbed 2nd place after running 4th/5th for so long, but never far away.

Hiya Guys

Seems this was quite an interesting race  Wink

Connection problems forced me out of this one. I connected 3 times, and lost connection 3 times. I couldnt access my e-mails or the `net, so maybe Virgin were having 1 or 2 issues!

Cheers
