I'm sorry to have to report this but the server went offline this afternoon. While trying to find out why I've discovered that it appears the rental company have gone bust. Their whole network appears to have been switched off this afternoon.

I'm trying to see if I can get any funds back from Paypal or my CC company but I'm not very hopefully.

We will do what we can and try and sort out another solution ASAP.

Sorry folks Sad

That's not good. Keep us updated and what does that mean for the racing meantime?

There won't be any until there is a server in place I guess. Sad

I've sent a pm to picnic, if anyone else is interested try multiplay.co.uk, they do server hosting for 2142, should do it for GTR as well.

I'll announce an initial schedule delay tomorrow but obviously getting things underway properly is dependent on finding another host, getting everything set up, and testing it to our satisfaction. We will almost certainly have to drop a few championship races from UKGTR Season 6 in order to finish before the end of the year but we will try and keep as many as possible.

Sorry to hear that  Sad How much do you stand to lose Pete? Are there any obvious alternatives assuming the money could be raised?

Sorry to hear that  Sad How much do you stand to lose Pete? Are there any obvious alternatives assuming the money could be raised?

We're looking at options now - it'll likely be a few days though before any firm decision can be made, especially if it means a serious outlay of more capital. I'm not sure exactly how much the current donation fund stands at but it's a few hundred I think, and since my employers have finally decided to start paying me (only just been paid for August and still waiting for July's money!) it's no problem for me to top it up temporarily if needs be.

Can we postpone the races instead of cancel them? That way you have more time to search and we can put some testraces in the middle. Why do we need to be finished before the end of the season?

I specifically pushed to get Season 6 underway in order to finish it this year so that we didn't have a long holiday break and then just one or two races in the new year.

If, as looks likely, this season is shortened to 7 or 6 races, it just means we use the tracks scheduled for those races to start Season 7 next year. That gives us an 'earlier' (racewise) opportunity to tweak, can or sledgehammer the ballast process too.

Okay, all championship races are officially postponed, initially by two weeks. We'll see where we are at the end of next week before making a decision as to whether we can resume a week after that, or whether a further delay is needed.

If we're postponing things, would now be a good time for a skins update?  Just a thought.

What kind of a server is sufficient enough to run the races?

Same question as per upload goes...

Am getting 12Mbit/12Mbit optical line in comming weeks (days, I hope) and have a 2Gig DDR400 RAM/Barton 2800+/radeon9700pro/120Gb HDD thingie doing absolutely... nothing.

If nothing else it can (I hope) serve us a backup server. Worth a shot?

12Mb up/down is plenty to run our races. How contended will that 12Mb be?

Not sure what a Barton 2800+ is in comparison to what we have, but 2Gb is perfect and graphics card doesn't make any difference for the server. Smiley

Can I ask who you were with? Was it 4U servers as I had one with them and it appears the website and servers have just disappeared, I can't find anything online about it, I have been searching. I know you used to use them but I didn't you did any more.

Look forward to hearing from you
