I must admit for the Endurance when I first joined the grid I got less than 90% engine health, so I kept ESCing out and back to the grid until I got an engine health above 95%. I then proceeded to mock my team-mates about their engine abuse and continually dropping engine health figures whilst mine sat at the same level until I decided to rag it to catch up or overtake people (I think I lost 5% alone revving the nuts off the Lister whilst catching Brian at the end).

I also try to get the engine health start above 97%. I get nervous when it goes below 90%. This usually happens when I use Italian cars.  Roll Eyes   I never have any problems with Porsche (MJ does  shifty ), BMW or SEAT. I don't get into high revs too often, mostly shift on first or second red. Yesterday it was the exception as I was pi$$ed annoyed (sorry Dave  clown ) with the car and myself. Seems like more on-line training is needed.  Undecided

F360 Modena might be my weapon of choice next season, I'm sure it can't be as slow as people are making out.

Don't think the car is particularly 'slow'....in the right hands it could possibly compete....but it's an unforgiving beastie that allows little room for error...and when pushed the engine is fragile. Driven within it's limits it will run very consistently lap after lap.....but for someone at a similar skill/experience level as myself, I wouldn't recommend it if you have any hopes of being competetive.

Don't worry, you're not going mental Tongue, it can only been seen with a 3rd party program like GTR²-XD

Thats why ive never noticed it..cheers.

Ahh thats whats going on then.... and I always thought it was peeps making last minute checks\changes to their setup. Grin  IMO as good as the XD thingy is especially with positions and times (something a driver could receive over the radio) this takes away a bit of the realism. To me is seems a bit of a shame that we go to all that hassle for realism (with Dave and alls hard work) to randomise something like the weather to have drivers bouncing on and off the grid until they get a decent engine. I don't use it but then we all have the choice so its fair game even if it does offer an very small advantage.

Well that was a very tough race but very pleased to have won my second championship!! Unlucky to Bara for his engine loss in the final laps. As Bara said in practice before the race it was always going to be very tight and for me with Bara's pace and my ballast it was never going to be easy. I generally needed to finish no more than two places behind him so to qualify just in front was a good start so went for my slower at start but more consistant over 40mins setup (basically Med fronts rather than soft). Race started and Mala and SBG both started to dissappear. Adam was hassling me and I dropped back a bit from Madd in the first laps. Adams engine noise was louder than my own for a strange reason and I struggled to get into a rhythm. Bara and Dan passed Adam and then were quickly on my tail. I managed to fend off a challenge from Bara at the last corner but on the next lap he was firmly alongside at the same place and made the pass. Great clean racing mate!! The loss of momentum onto the front straight also allowed Dan to get a run and he was also through.

Bara then also passed Madd and was off chasing the front two so I had to push. Dan and myself also got past Madd but Dan wasn't wasn't hanging around and I had to push hard to keep with him. My car then started to improve and I was able to close in and when Dan got a huge slide out of the final tight right corner I was able to pass approaching the final turn. Bara was flying at this point but I was in 4th so he needed to win. Fortunately for me my teamie SBG was driving a great race and was quite a bit up the road. I was going as fast as I could but wasn't making any impression so it was really out of my hands. Then Bara blew up (what happened mate any warning or did it just pop?) so I was able to relax to the finish.

Many thanks to Bara for a great battle for the championship and also to TT, MJ, RR, Adam Parle and  Brian Kerr all of whom I have had some great races with at points in this series. Many thanks also to my fellow KC's for helping to also bring home the team championship. Nearly the whole team contributed throughout the season! Special thanks to Mo who helped with the setup of the 360 at the start of the season. Congratulations to Jeff on the GTC champ and also Paul and Simon on the GTC podium.

Big thanks again to Dave and all the staff who run this great league. Looking forward to season 7 already!

My Internet connection died late yesterday morning and is still dead, so racing was not an option last night. An engineer is booked in for monday, but who knows when I'll be back on line.  Sad I would have missed the LE race anyway as I'm at the race of champions on Sunday.

Congrats to Paul R on winning the GT2 championship - another fantastic result for the Kerbies  thumbup2 Congrats also to Mala and Dan their respective victories.

Can't see how it can detract from realism myself...no REAL driver or team would go on track knowing their engine was shagged below parr...surely they would sort it before hand...even at the last minute?.....whilst in online competition we all strive for as much realism as possible, but the way it has to be done is different from the 'actual' real world.

No! No warning at all mate!!  Temps were fine, I had a very slight change of rhythm for some reason (cant even remember what happened but something caught me out) and had to correct the car, nothing major from memory (will have to see replay), then... POP   Shocked
Maybe I blipped the throttle correcting it and that sent the donkey over the edge?!

Why am I only now reading about engine weaknesses at Zhuhai in Italian cars then? Smiley

It was a long shot to catch up for the win anyway (impossible without a problem from Mala as he was flying in that Seat!!) but I was really enjoying the chase with SBG! We were both pushing each other faster and faster, but I wasn't over-revving the car really so don't think (hope) that didnt affect it.

Not a nice end to an otherwise v. v. cool season. Had some ups... some downs... some great action... some hits (sorry!!)... some misses...  some good luck... some bad... but all good fun!!

Congratulations Paul R you totally deserved that champ!!  Cool.
I'm lucky to be where I am in the results really because my consistentcy is still way below you guys.

And of course grats to JR too for class win Wink

Well even though i was effectively last i enjoyed the race! Actually beat my fastest practise lap in qualy. Surprised to see just how close the field was, though probably down to the track more than anything.

I've enjoyed the season, but i really need to work out how to go faster! Well done to everyone though!

I tried the 360m a few times for comparison but it seemed too much 'on the edge' all the time.

Isnt the engine health just a parameter 'invented' for the GTR-XD program? In car Motecs measure oil and water temps. I'm sure ive seen the engine health value vary when i've not done any engine changes in the setup.

Hi everyone, first race for me here and it went really well.

First few laps of qualifying, think I was a bit nervous as the car just didn't feel quite right, eventually got settled down and put a couple of good laps in.

The race went well, managed to get it around the first corner, although I thought it was going in the gravel at one point, and then started to edge away from 'sponsored by ginsters'. Got the gap to about 4 or 5 seconds, which is where it stayed for most of the race.  Tried pushing it a bit further but small mistakes kept creeping in, and I would loose what I had gained earlier in the lap.

Managed to keep it on the track and take the win  Smiley

I've been running the SEAT quite a bit recently and have actually started to enjoy driving it!  It's quite a big change when you're used to the RSR and Saleen, but once you've got over its tendancy to understeer it's good fun.

Thanks for the race, really enjoyed it.

But thats the point they wouldn't neccessarily know that it was more likely to blow than an identical engine next to it. Thats the nature of engines, with all the moving parts etc.. no two are exactly the same. As this is a sim it is of course possible to make them all the same but that isn't the case. Blimey have done quite a bit of work on all the types of engine that are in the game and their differences (like their max revs, power ranges) and also reliability. I believe it uses oil and water temps, the revs being used and a random starting health factor to attempt to simulate the randomness possible engine failures. This is obviously evident as people using the XD monitor can see their engines starting health. By leaving the grid and rejoining they get a new value, rinse and repeat until you randomly get a high value. How is this realistic?

I am certainly not complaining as anyone can use XD and it certainly doesn't bother me that by not using it I am at a very slight disadvantage by not knowing how hard I can push the engine. But for me knowing my engine health like a percentage would take away a bit of my illusion that I am not actually racing  Cheesy

I use XD and I never worry about my engine health. Then again my "French" car is a lot more reliable than the US or Italian rubbish. Wink laugh

Precisely Gizmo and one of the reasons I've stopped using the horrid American cars. The Italian cars are far better than the American cars for engine realibility and starting health, whilst the Jap and German cars are even better.

P.S. If you're using manual clutch and not lifting whilst shifting up then you are putting a massive amount more strain on the engine, that is certainly why Jeff's engine health plummits at 3 times the rate mine do.

 Grin Grin Grin

I thought you were very unlucky this year mate. 2 blown engines and the thing with your name putting you to the back of the grid. Take those out and you would have won. I fortunately didn't have any bad races and that obviously helps if you don't actually win a race! In fact not including any fun races I have won more championships than races now Cheesy . Not sure what that says about my driving  wheelchair  Many thanks for the congrats I look forward to more dueling next season

Just noticed you are only just up the road from me. One of my mates married a Salisbury lass and lives there now so have had many a good night out there and days at the gee gees!
