Moderator's Report

15 point penalty for reckless rejoining causing an unavoidable incident with Nigel Pengelly and several other drivers.

Collis spins after a (racing) incident with Soren at turn 1, but then rejoins onto the racing line in the wrong direction by doing a spin turn. Overall Collis was involved in several incidents, this being by far the worst, hopefully Collis will take on board what happened at Kyalami and be *far* more careful when rejoining the race after incidents in the future)

  • Colliss Coll — Reckless rejoining causing an incident with Nigel Pengelly and other driver — 15.0 championship point(s)

5 point penalty for rear ending Paul Bird, this would normally be 10 points but Allan did a very good job of waiting and lost several places in the process.

  • Alan Chandler — Rear ending Paul Bird — 5.0 championship point(s)

5 point penalty for bad rejoining causing Dave Gymer to hit him and both spin off. This incident is far less severe than Collisis because RC was unsighted and in a very tricky position. (Jammed right up against the barrier. Waiting until shift-r was possible would probably have been the safest course of action however)

  • Richard Clegg — Bad rejoin in front of Dave Gymer — 5.0 championship point(s)

Not only was this a bad rear ending, it caused quite a pile up for the following drivers.

  • Mick Brown — Rear ending Ryk P — 10.0 championship point(s)

Moderator's Report

Dave Gymer loses control under braking for the last turn and rear ends Paul Bird on lap 23. The fact that he lost control rather than simply braked late, and also the lateness in the race mean this is not as serious.

Michael Boylan - Rear ends Dave Gymer on the run up to turn 1. This is not the place to push hard behind another car.

  • Linus27 — Rear ending Dave Gymer — 10.0 championship point(s)

Vinny Kwiker - Rear ends Gary Tall braking for turn 4 on lap 1. Again, lap 1 is not a time to push your braking to the limit behind another car. Not as bad as MB tho as T1 L1 is the most obvious place to be careful.

  • Vinny Kwiker — Rear ending Gary Tall — 5.0 championship point(s)

Ben Summers - rejoins the track before the chicane on lap 29 without due care. He narrowly avoids hitting Michael Boylan who could not have taken any action at that point, even tho his car could be seen and heard as Ben recovered. This is a common problem which ruins races.

Moderator's Report

The crash at the start when Nigel Pengelly braked too late (or was too close to the car in front) causing a huge pileup behind. Nigel did seem to wait for several cars to repass him, but I still feel a penalty is warranted. Everyone must realise that the start is a time for great care.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1: Nigel Pengelly goes wide at the hairpin and in recovering hits a car passing him on the inside. The car was not visible to Nigel, and the tightness of the turn there makes it tough to pick your line (you sometimes just need full lock top get round after you run wide). IMO Nigel might have been a touch more careful, but its nothing worse than that.

Collis gets bottled up close behind another car after the hairpin, and makes a sudden movement to the right to sneak past. Vinny is already going for the same piece of road at speed, and is given no chance to avoid. Collis should have been more careful when making such a sudden move in a pack of cars on
lap 1. He does not wait.

  • Colliss Coll — Lap 1 incident — 5.0 championship point(s)

Lap 7: Michael Boylan spins braking for the hairpin and makes a very quick recovery cutting across an approaching car (how they missed each other I'll never know). This looks bad on the server replay as the car is plainly visible to Michael but he still pulls out, but after further thought I realised that the car was hidden from his view due to another car just passing (the old 1 car behind syndrome). I still think rejoining so quickly as a car is passing is not safe as it is quite likely another car is right behind. Since no contact was made and the other car got past after the hairpin I think a warning is enough. Others please note - rejoining right after another car is not safe.

Griz spins into the penultimate corner, and tries to move off just as another car is approaching - he takes out the other car. I realise that Griz may have been trying to get off the track, but its best in this situation to
stay still - the other car assumes you will and can decide on the best action. If you move then nobody knows what will happen. As Griz waited and lost lots of time and places a warning is enough.

Collis rear ends Michael boylan into the left hand hairpin (elbow). Replay analyser shows that Collis just braked too late that lap (previous lap was much earlier). Although he waited, the fact that MB had to reset meant that Coll got past 4 corners later. The fact that these 2 had a long battle without other problems is a mitigating factor tho.

  • Colliss Coll — Rear ending Michael Boylan — 5.0 championship point(s)

Lap 17: Soren Sartrup runs out of fuel, and stops to reset right on the apex of the penultimate corner with another car not far behind. This is just silly and very selfish. Stop at a slow point by all means, but to stop on the racing line on the apex is madness.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1: Paul Cooper moves over at T1 and nudges the car inside him. Paul maybe should have stayed wider here rather than get so close to the inside apex. Paul lost out anyway as his car went wide and the other carried unharmed.

Lap 3: Michael Boylan exits Stowe on the normal line (left) with Alan C right behind and ready to pass. Michael drifts over to the right, and when Alan looks up the left michael drifts back left again. This would have been a very likely pass for Alan IMO but Michael changed line twice so that Alan had to back off. I'll give Michael the benefit of the doubt here, but everybody please note that you can only change line once on a straight, or it will be deemed weaving. If you move to the right then make sure you stay right - I know some drivers drive down the centre to make a pass difficult (as Michael did) and this is just about OK, but any movement back again will be seen as weaving in my book.

Lap 5: Peter Allnut gets a run on Dave G out of Stowe, gets close behind and pulls alongside. Unfortunately he gets too close and they collide. This might have been warp induced, and I dont think Peter was being that silly - just misjudged how close he was going to get. Next time, leave a bit more
room Peter.

  • picnic — Moving over on Dave Gymer

Lap 9: Mick Brown gets a run on Ben rather like the Michael v Alan incident. Ben acts in a similar way to Michael, although I think there may have been an element of Ben trying to get out of the way. I suggest that drivers just hold there line in these situations and let the other driverdeal with it. Trying to get out of the way will likely block the other driver.

Lap 13: Vinny Kwiker makes a late pass into T3 on Paul Bird, Paul leaves him room but Vinny slides wide and takes them both out. Vinny needs to have the car under control to stay on the inside here if he's going to make the pass.

  • Vinny Kwiker — Bad passing attempt — 5.0 championship point(s)

Lap 13: Vinny slides off. He is sitting facing back down the track and can see cars approaching. He then decides to do a spin turn to get back on track, ends up facing slightly to the outside and drives back onto the track just as Paul Bird is coming up behind him. Paul has nowhere to go and both are taken off again.

There are 2 things that are silly here. Firstly Vinny could see a car approaching (actually there were 3 but he could not see that) but still chose to spin turn the car to a standstill just beyond the apex of a corner. This is inconsiderate as he could have waited and lost little time. The other is that having got the car pointed in roughly the right direction he then drove onto the track rather than staying on the grass. These 2 together make this more than a minor penalty. Please, dont recover the car onto the track if you see cars approaching at speed - its asking for trouble.

Moderator's Report

Nigel Pengelly brakes too late and loses control, taking Soren out in the
process. In my view Nigel was not being careful enough given it was lap 1
and there were 2 cars in front (this often means they brake a bit earlier)

Peter Allnut gets a good run on Michael Boylan at the start of the long
straight near the end of the lap. Michael appears to weave back and forth
across the road, preventing Peter from getting past (as he surely would
given a free run). This involves several changes of line, one of which looks
pretty blatent to me. There is a small chance that this is down to Michael
struggling to control the car in a straight line, but others manage it fine
so I dont see this as a reasonable excuse. Given that I warned Michael about
the same thing after Silverstone (I know the Ring race occured before the
ruling tho) and gave him the benefit of the doubt rather than a penalty, I
feel a penalty is justified this time. There are few enough chances to pass
in gpl as it is, fewer still at the Ring, so if a driver is prevented from
passing on a straight that is several miles long then something ain't right!
