Moderator's ReportLap 2: Ian Bassi slows to avoid other cars, B West misses this and drives into the back of Ian. Ian gets away first. Warning for dangerous driving.
Lap 3: Kev Brigden drives into the back of Daren Willand. DW gets away first but loses two places. Warning for dangerous driving.
Rick Osborn runs wide out of T1, G Field is knocked off track, but this appears to be a warp although Rick was very close at the time. Warning for dangerous driving.
Lap 8: RA Wright spins into T1, A Bowers spins in sympathy but no contact with RA Wright. When A Bowers is rejoining the track, B West comes into T1 and tries to avoid AB, but AB pulls away and forces him off the track.
Lap 9: Rick O pushes P Lee off the track, this forces P Lee into a spin which collects K Brigden. 2nd offence, so 5 point penalty.
Lap 13: A Bowers brakes too late into T1, driving into the rear of Uwe Daniel who was being lapped by A McConnell. Uwe was knocked off the track, but A Bowers lets him rejoin in front. 2nd offence, so 5 point penalty.
P Lee rejoins track after spin and takes out C Carpenter. Warning for dangerous driving.

Moderator's ReportLap 5 - Paul Adams spins at t1 and comes to rest facing the wrong way at the exit of the corner. He allows two cars past and then attempts a spin recovery onto the racing line, clipping Phil Lee in the process. Phil continues but could have taken damage. Paul came to rest in a position from where it was very difficult to spin recover safely. I felt a shift-r would have been much safer allowing Paul to restart off the racing line. Warning for dangerous driving
Lap 5 - Anton Bowers spins at the chicane coming to rest after the exit across the racing line. He then reverses colliding with K. Barnes who is going left in an attempt to avoid. He then pulls forward and collects M.Peck. Anton spent too much time trying to recover in a very dangerous position. Again, I felt shift-r would have reset Anton to a safer position off the racing line saving him time and two needless accidents. 2nd offence, so 5 point penalty.
Lap9 - M. Knopp spins at Tabac after avoiding a stationary car, coming to rest at the exit of the turn. He pulls forward as A. McConnell comes around the corner causing an accident. I accept that he would not have been able to see Ashley from in car but he should have been aware how far behind Ashley was before the incident . He could have expected Ashley to take that line at the corner and accepted that the position was lost after the spin. Warning for dangerous driving.

January 08, 2001, 12:00:00 AM +0000 - Zandvoort (1948-72) - UKGPL Season 3 (2000-2001) Division 4
Moderator's ReportColman Carpenter starts on the inside, running down to t1, Phil Lee ahead, Glen field ahead to the left, slightly back from Phil. Colman goes diagonally left for the gap between Phil and Glen, which is barely bigger than a car's width. A bit of warp and contact between Colman's left rear and Glen's right front pitches Colman into a spin, Glen continues. Luckily Colman doesn't take anyone else out. A bit ambitious, to say the least. A bit more caution at the start please. It's this kind of manoeuvre that usually causes lap1 t1 pile ups. Warning for dangerous driving.
Martin Peck makes a slowish start ahead of Matt Knopp. Matt goes right to go around only to be met by a diagonal wall of hay. He backs off too late. Unfortunately it was a good harvest this year and Matt is in a Cooper, not a combine harvester - one less bail and he'd have got away with it. Matt clips the last one, pitching him across the road into Ian Bassi. Warning for dangerous driving.
Lap 8 - After a couple of spins and controller problems, Rick Osborn has lost the lead and fallen to 6th place. He closes in on Phil Lee after T1 and is following closely through turns 2,3 and 4. Rick carries a lot more speed into T5, the fast uphill, right hander and drives into the rear of Phil, who is thrown off the road, costing Phil a possible 2nd place finish. I accept this is part of the track where it is difficult to brake or back off without spinning. I have decided Rick did not deliberately drive Phil off the road. I do however think this was an avoidable accident caused by Rick being too aggressive and impatient in his efforts to make his way back up the field. A bit of patience may have salvaged Rick a good result.

January 22, 2001, 12:00:00 AM +0000 - Spa (GPL) - UKGPL Season 3 (2000-2001) Division 4
Moderator's ReportOn lap 2 Ashley McConnell was pressuring Colman Carpenter through Malmedy. Onto the straight Colman stayed to the left, Ashley went to the right. At Masta, Ashley turned into the corner with Colman on his left and there was a collosion. As Ashley was making the pass it was his responsibilty to ensure that the pass was completed cleanly. At the point of turning in for the corner Ashley was not quite level with Colman and he should have backed off. I have taken on board what both drivers had to say about the incident, and with Ashley's good record I think a warning is approprate.

February 05, 2001, 12:00:00 AM +0000 - Rouen (1955-70) - UKGPL Season 3 (2000-2001) Division 4
Moderator's ReportLap 1 - On the straight before Gresil (the long right hander), Scott Boham has got a run up the inside of Ashley McConnell. Ashley stays well over to the left, but Scott drifts over to the left and there is contact between rear tyres, which puts Ash into a spin and Scott onto the grass on the right. Scott would have passed Ashley cleanly if he had exercised more caution to stay to the right of the track. This is Scott's first offence of the season.
Lap 1 - Scott on the receiving end this time. Under braking for the 90 right after Gresil, Matt Knopp comes from a very long way back and attempts to pass Scott on the inside into the corner. When Scott turns in on a normal line for the corner, no part of Matt's car is alonside Scott's car. At the entrance to the corner Matt clips the verge which straightens his car, and he effectively t-bones Scott. This was an over ambitious attempt at a pass.
Lap 12 - Ian Bassi spins at the exit of the left turn after the hairpin. He comes to rest facing the wrong way, but off the racing line. Ian should have been aware that Colman Carpenter was following quite closely. As Colman is coming round the turn, Ian floors the throttle in an attempt at a recovery, which puts his car right across the racing line, in the path of Colman. Colman attempts to go round the back of Ian but clips the rear of his car and spins. More caution was required from Ian in getting his car facing the right way again.

Moderator's ReportLap 1 Turn 1:
Kevin Barnes and Roy Bateman lap 1 Becketts: under braking for Becketts Roy drives into the back of Kevin Barnes, which puts Kevin to the nack of the field. Roy has had a clean season so far.
Barry West - Scott Boham Lap 2: approaching Club corner Barry West is very close to the back of Scott Boham. When Scott brakes Barry moves to the inside and cuts the corner in front of Scott. Contact and they are both off the track. Barry admits he wasn't thinking of a pass, rather just trying to worry Scott. This wasn't judged very well. Barry got too close and did not compensate for Scott's braking point maybe being earlier than his own. Barry has had a clean season so far.
Matt Knopp - Uwe Daniel Lap 4: Matt attempts to pass Uwe on the inside at Copse. Matt enters the corner too fast and understeers wide into Uwe, pitching Uwe off the track. Matt received a penalty at Rouen for 2 incidents similar to this one.
Barry West - Scott Boham Lap 14: Barry and Scott go into Woodcote together, Scott on the outside, slightly ahead. At the exit of the corner Barry drifts over into the side of Scott. Scott had held a good line on the outside of the corner. Barry's in car view shows that Scott was in his blind spot around Woodcote, but he must have known Scott was there and should have taken a tighter line to the inside at the exit of the corner.

March 05, 2001, 12:00:00 AM +0000 - Nürburgring (Nordschleife) - UKGPL Season 3 (2000-2001) Division 4
Moderator's ReportT1, just after the start: on the run up to t1 of lap1 Uwe Daniel is on the left, with Paul Adams behind. Uwe brakes for t1 quite hard and locks up, probably as a result of seeing Barry West (ahead, and to the right) move left. Barry doesn't come all the way over and moves back to the right. After locking up Uwe goes slightly onto the grass and gets a bit sideways to the right. Paul Adams appears to back off a little but doesn't brake hard enough to avoid Uwe. Paul moves to the right to avoid the rear of Uwe's car. Scott Boham has made a very fast start and has overtaken a number of other cars. He is quickly closing on Paul. When Paul moves right Scott backs off and brakes and also moves to the right. This puts Scott into the path of Martin Peck who he has just overtaken. With Scott braking and moving into his path, Martin does not have time to brake sufficiently to avoid Scott. There is contact between Scott's right rear and Martin's left front. Paul goes onto the grass on the right, bounces off the fence and when he comes back onto the track he collects Barry West . There is a chain reaction which results in a pile up involving all but the first 3 cars.
T1 lap 1: after recovering from the pile up just before t1, Barry understeers wide around t1, goes onto the grass and ends up facing the wrong way on the outside of the corner. He pauses slightly as 3 cars pass on the inside in quick succession. He then moves forward onto the racing line into the path of Matt Knopp. The resulting accident involves 3 other cars. Barry then resets quickly. From Roy Bateman's in car view it is clear that Roy gets a nasty surprise as Barry resets and he does well to jink right and avoid Barry.

Moderator's ReportLap 3, hairpin - Glen Field is following Martin Peck down the hill leading to the hairpin. Martin brakes and turns in for the corner. Glen brakes later, locks up and slides into Martin, spinning Martin. Glen drives off, gaining a place. I don't think this was a rash overtaking attempt but more misjudged braking. However Glen does gain a place from his mistake, and Martin loses one through no fault of his own.
Lap 5, hairpin - Ian Bassi is following Uwe Daniel down the hill. Uwe turns in for the corner. Ian comes from a long way back to attempt a pass on the inside of Uwe. No part of Ian's car is alongside Uwe's when Uwe starts to turn in for the corner. Ian's left front wheel contacts Uwe's right rear and Uwe is pun. This costs Uwe 3 places and benefits Ian a place who drives off.
Lap 5, long straight after the hairpin - Martin Peck draws alongside Kevin Barnes up the hill of the straight. At the brow of the hill Kevin moves over to the right into Martin sending both off the road. This looks more careless than a blocking attempt by Kevin. He would have been aware that Martin was alongside so should have been more careful to stick to the left of the track. This is Kevin's first transgression of the season.
Lap 14, after the hairpin - Kevin Barnes is about to be lapped by Barry West, who is closely followed by Matt Knopp. Kevin sees Barry in his mirrors and moves over to the right to let him past. He doesn't see Matt because of the '1 car behind' thing. As soon as Barry has passed, Kevin acclerates and moves over to the left into the side of Matt Knopp who is sent off the road. Having let Barry past Kevin leaves no time at all for GPL to reveal any following car. There is always a slight delay before the next car appears. Kevin should have stayed well over to the right until it was clear there was no car closely following Barry.
Lap 26, turn 4 - Paul Adams is following Anton Bowers. Paul comes from a long way back to attempt a pass on the inside of the left turn, colliding with Anton. This was Paul's mistake, but he pulls over shortly afterwards to give the place back to Anton.

Moderator's ReportLap 3 - Lesmo 1: Ash leaves his braking too late for the corner and drives into the back of Barry West, costing Barry a place. This was not an overtaking attempt.
Lap 12 - Lesmo 1: Paul Adams tries to overtake Uwe Daniel on the inside. He gets part of his car alongside Uwe's, who gives Paul room. At the entrance to the corner Paul puts his right wheels on the grass and loses control. He slides back onto the track, into the side of Uwe. Paul waits to allow Uwe past again. This was a good opportunity for Paul to pass. He got into a good position and it was not unreasonable for him to attempt the pass, but his mistake in executing it caused the incident. Uwe drove correctly by leaving room when Paul had got partially alongside. Before this incident Uwe was in 6th, just behind 5th and 4th, and this incident deprived him of the opportunity to challenge for a possible podium finish.

Moderator's ReportLap 1, t1: Darren Willand is closely following Paul Adams on the run down to t1, and drives into Paul under braking for the turn. The resulting accident involves most of the field. It looks like Darren is too preoccupied with defending his position from a Ferrari close behind, to his left. Darren has had a totally clean record so far this season.
Hairpin, lap 3: after a spin, Barry West ends up facing the wrong way down the straight before the hairpin. A group of three cars pass. Even before this group has completely passed his car, Barry floors the throttle and attempts a u-turn on the track. He drives into the path of Glen Field who can do nothing to avoid an accident. Barry had an unrestricted view back down the straight, and Glen's car would have appeared in his view if Barry had waited for just a couple of seconds after the group of 3 cars had passed. This was a similar incident to one at the 'ring. In both cases Barry did not make sufficient allowance for the limitation of only being able to see one car behind, and caused avoidable accidents.
The Esses, lap 6 - Kevin Brigden vs Ash McConnell. Lap 10, t1 - Kevin Brigden vs Ash McConnell (the sequel)
