Moderator's Report

Doug gets a great start passing several, then swaps sides of track before T1 and brakes quite early collecting N.Wood who is taking it slowly. Having already overtaken several cars, Doug should have been content with where he was (on the left) and taken T1 gently.

K.Burner - Esses Lap 1: Kev loses it and stops in the middle of the track, then immediately attempts a spin-turn setting off a mad crash involving most of the field. It would have been wiser to roll off the track backwards, not stop. A penalty might seem harsh, but when a car starts to spin you should be thinking of avoiding a pile-up, not about saving yourself.

A note about this incident - quite a number of drivers seemed to ignore the yellow flags (a few got there too early to see them) and piled into the pack Spa '98-styley. There were several rapid Shift-R's and many little crunches as people rushed to get away quickly. If you see the tell-tale signs of an accident up-ahead, GO SLOW ! The people who backed off for it mostly made it through and gained several places in the process. Those who charged in lost places & time and in one clear case took out A.Nevill who was going slow.

K.Hammett - T1 Lap 2: overtakes D.Hogbin then slides wide & gets nerfed by D.Hogbin. Was Shift-R the best option in that situation? It caused a secondary (much worse) collision with the recovering J.Schmidt.

J.Schmidt - T1 Lap 1: turned in too early (all drivers must be prepared to drive wide lines for the first few corners of any race as side-by-side racing is common). Rejoined the track in a bad place.

J.Schmidt - T1 Lap 2: had been overtaken by J.Bardsley, but went for the apex of the corner where Joe had hit the kerbs and bounced out a bit.

D.Hogbin - T1 Lap 2: doesn't yield sufficiently for K.Hammett who'd just overtaken him. Kev had run wide and lost momentum; Duncan was expecting Kev to continue at normal pace.

S.Rixon - Esses Lap 1: nowhere to go ends up pointing at the barriers. Reverses onto the track (half-way) to restart making life difficult for a few others. A tricky one this, as Shift-R wouldn't have been available for quite some time, and the car was in a bad position.

S.Rixon - T5 Lap 4: spins into barriers and reverses out (half-way). This time the position wasn't too dangerous, but reversing out onto the track should always be used with extreme caution. A big crash was avoided through lost packets. Would have been 5pt penalty but for the fact that no other alternative were available.

A.Nevill - Start: goes for a non existant gap, hits the rear of S.Rixon and causes N.Wood to veer towards barriers. Way too over eager causing other drivers to take avoiding action.

  • Andy Nevill — Bad passing attempt — 5.0 championship point(s)

S.Gymer - Start - takes to the apron on the left to overtake several slower starters. Given the 5 ahead nature of online GPL this is a very dangerous move.

R.Wright - T3 Lap 21: spins off and attempts to rejoin at the apex of the corner. This was totally avoidable. Bob realised it was bad and reversed back onto the grass, but only after hitting Duncan.

Moderator's Report

L20 chicane - P.Barbier onto the pavement, then veers right when the barrier looms. Combined with the very warpy connection this was a bad move; should have stopped and rejoined slower.

L26: N. Wood outbraked self and collected p2 P.Villiers.

  • Neil Wood — Collecting Paul Villiers — 5.0 championship point(s)

L1: D.Ellison pushes several other cars including N.Wood into the bales. Yellows had been waving for some time.

  • Doug Ellison — Dangerous driving — 5.0 championship point(s)

L1: S.Gymer hit by K.Hammett & appears to exact revenge with 3 hits- one straight, one a spin, one a reversing.

  • Simon Gymer — Bad rejoin — 10.0 championship point(s)

L7-10: S.Gymer fails to let leader through. I did not see any blue flags, word from others has it they weren't working? But being last, pit board, the speed that Jakob was closing in.

  • Simon Gymer — Failure to let lapping car though — 5.0 championship point(s)

Moderator's Report

Start; S.Rixon sides D.Hogbin off track after getting on gas and half-spinning.

L3 hairpin, N.Wood nudges J.Schmidt at hairpin. This was so slow I don't quite see how it happened, but happen it did. Neil let Jakob through at the start of Masta. Near the end of the lap Jakob's engine let go- might have been related but we'll never know for sure.

Moderator's Report

2. D.Ellison

Lap10 tried to follow D.Hogbin in lapping a backmarker, crashed because the backmarker could not have known two cars were going to lap. Please, everybody, bear this in mind when lapping- the backmarker also has responsibility but not as much as the 2nd, 3rd, etc. lapping drivers in the train.

Lap18 hairpin over ambitious overtaking attempt on D.Hogbin. D.Hogbin into tyres (damn those tyres!), didn't wait. Looking at the server & client replays from several angles and talking to other moderators, a 10 SECOND PENALTY is given, see amended race results below. At no point before Duncan started turning in were you alongside. You were a long way back going into the braking, going too fast to make the apex properly and going over the grass at one point. I would normally have given a 5pt penalty here, but it was the last lap and looked very much like a last-ditch effort to overtake. Duncan had very few corners in which to fight back and lost 7pts as a result, you gaining 7, so a 5pt penalty would have little impact.

  • Doug Ellison — Over ambitious overtaking attempt on D.Hogbin — 10.000 seconds added

Lap2: K.Hammett pulled over (but not off the track) for a broken engine. Lots of cars behind had to take avoiding action.

Lap 6: J.Bardsley rear ends A.Nevill into hay, doesn't wait.

  • Joe Bardsley — Rear ending — 5.0 championship point(s)

Lap4 corner after straight, P.Villiers side-by-side with PJGTech, contact made. PJG had gone to overtake resulting in neither car visible from in-car the other (really should enforce that chase-view ;-) Both had responsibilities to avoid the collision.

Lap 3 last corner: A.Nevill ran wide and rejoined the track into the back corner of P.Villiers. Warp may have played a role in this but it was a bit much to attempt to rejoin in that way with the cars where they were.

  • Andy Nevill — Bad rejoin — 5.0 championship point(s)

Lap2 T2: A.Davis hits when attempting to pass A.Nevill, both escape. Aggressive driving not tolerated.

Lap10 T2: P.Gagg spin turns into track - M.Bell runs into him.

Lap13 T1: P.Gagg follows J.Bardsley off track and rear ends him. This and the two previous warnings combine for a 5PT PENALTY. Just one pit-in pit-out and there would be no points penalty...

  • pjgtech — Contact with Joe B — 5.0 championship point(s)

Moderator's Report

T1 Lap2. Very late overtaking that worked by D.Ellison, but caused Kev & Christian to crash. Maybe the penalty at Rouen wasn't sufficient to point out that last ditched overtaking manoeuvres are not acceptable in an on-line environment?

M.Cooper, lap 5, turning in on P.Villiers who was recovering. Paul could only have seen the other driver who overtook him at that point and would not have known you were there (server-one-behind rubbish coming into play again :/).

  • Oilseal — Contact with P. Villiers

Lap 5 T3: after spinning into the infield at the apex of T3, P.Villiers chose to spin turn back onto track instead of taking the easy route out and turning left. The decision to rejoin the way you did affected several other drivers races quite badly.

  • PaulV — Bad rejoin — 5.0 championship point(s)
