Moderator's Report

Lap 5: T1 Jerry Hammond vs Bill Worthington

Jerry Hammond gets a draft behind Bill Worthington and goes for the inside line into T1. Jerry is initially up onto the kerb, but slides off, but not unreasonably so. Bill Worthington turns a little too tight into T1 and just gets far enough in to get a nudge from Jerry. Jerry goes on unhindered, while Bill spins off, hits the wall and retires. The contact is minor, also a bit warpy and Jerry is unhurt, so thus a small CAUTION to Bill Worthington: please leave more room next time (as you did on the previous lap).

Lap 7: Pit entry: Mike Pricket shows how NOT to enter the pits. Had there been traffic behind, it could have been dangerous. Please practice pit entries prior to the race.

Lap 13: Dave Powell pitted at the end of Lap 13, which is one lap too late: the official pit window was from lap 6-12. As Dan leach pitted earlier and was held up in traffic, it could in theory have costed him the win. In a point scoring race, you would have lost your 1st place and possible warning. Please read the rules AND the race briefing.

Lap 16: T1-2: Paul Harrington vs Dave Bryant. They go side-by-side into T1, with Dave on the inside, who stays there for T2.

Dave understeers a little in T2, but Paul turns too far in and hits Dave. Paul spins off and Dave continues on, unhindered.

I consider this a misjudgement from Paul and a stern CAUTION is hereby administered. Please leave more room next time.

Lap 19: T1: Lol Speedfreak vs Ian Parker vs Mike Pricket.

An interesting lesson in '1 Car Behind'. It's Lol, Ian and Mike (in that order) on the main straight. Both Ian and Mike pulls out to overtake and Lol stays on the racing line. Mike drops behind Ian on the inside and Ian completly misses his braking point, locks up and goes straight off, leaving Lol with a seeming clear T1, so he turns for the apex. Unfortunatly, due to the 1 Car Behind, it means that Mike P. is unseen until that moment. Mike does well to avoid Lol, but half-spins the car.

Mike should have shown more caution, knowing that Lol can't see him, but no damage done.

Moderator's Report

Lap4: Paul Harrington spins coming out of T1 and Paul Taylor got little chance to avoid him. Racing Incident.

Lap12: Paul Taylor shift-r's before the last turn, for an engine change. Shift-R due to own faults (Spins and engine blow-outs) are not allowed. As Paul Taylor retired two laps later, it's irrelevant, but please remember it for next time.

Lap 26: Bill Worthington runs wide in T1 and Lol slips through. Bill rejoins, but cuts straight into the racing line. Had someone been following Lol, it could have been disastrous (and expensive) due to the 1 car behind. CAUTION: Bad rejoin. Please take as much care as possible when rejoining the track.

Lap 27: Paul Smith's engine had had enough and Paul retires.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1, La Source

Bill Worthington seemingly doesnt brake at all and runs straight into Paul Smith who gets sent into orbit. Following Bill's email, explaining that his computer locked up, the accident makes sense and despite the severity, can only be described as a Racing Incident

Paul Smith, unfortunatly, has to wait a long time to shift-R and does so, but doesnt take a Stop and Go, which I'm afraid is an automatic 6 place penalty.

  • Paul Smith — Failing to take Stop and Go — 6 places lost

Lap3, Stavelot

David Powell on Ryk Penfold: Ryk is ahead off David Powell and while getting a tiny bit out of shape when entering Stavelot, Ryk doesnt lose more speed than normally. David doesnt slow anywhere near as much as Ryk, hits him and sends him off the track, while continuing unhindered. Only reason this doesnt look worse, is that Ryk gets slightly out of shape and doesnt quite get in on the racing line, but the result wouldnt have been any different.

After spinning off, David should have been aware that the people who have passed him, aren't as fast as him and have shown more caution.

  • Dave Powell — Contact with R. Penfold — 2 places lost

Lap5, Eau Rouge

Paul Harrington spins out of Eau Rouge, does a couple of funky bounces of the hedges and ends back up on the track, right in front of unsuspecting Paul Thurston.

Racing Incident.

Lap6, Pitlane.

Barty Mee pits for his stop 1 lap too late and 1 second too short. Both in the race-announcement and on VROC, it was made clear that the pitwindow was with 7-5 laps to go.

The pitstop is then also clearly 1 second too short.

This has an effect on the final outcome, as Mike Prickett, who had stopped within the correct window and ended up losing a couple of seconds due to traffic and was catching Barty Mee, with something like 1.5 seconds a lap and was right up behind him (0.25 seconds) as they cross the finish line.

To avoid this, if you are using GPLwait, activate it until you are fully stopped and don't start moving the car (for continuing racing) until it changes back to the front view...or if you are counting missisipis, elephats, crates-of-beer (my favourite), make sure you err on the side of caution!.

Due to this, I will have to relegate Barty from first and issue a Warning for breaking the rules.

  • Barty Mee — Pit stop infringments — 1 place lost

Moderator's Report

Dan Leach(P2) gets a good start and Mike Prickett (P1) gets a mediocre start...as they reach T1, Dan is clearly in front on the inside.

Meanwhile Dug T has crept very close Mike and is leaning to the inside, with Darkes a little further behind.

Mike tries to stay on the outside, but Dan Leach slides wide and scrubs off a lot of speed and it appears that Mike in an effort to slow down, so he doesnt hit Dan, skids out. He bounces off the barrier, into Dug T, who's stayed on the inside, bounces out again, gets hit by an innocent Darkes. *Everyone* behind Dan is involved in this pile-up...very impressive.

5 cars end up upside down and Shift-R:

Paul Smith & Paul Thurston: take a stop and go.

Jerry Hammond and Chris Darkes doesnt take a stop and go, but emails moderator explaining why.

Bill Worthington doesnt email moderator and doesnt do a stop'n'go.

Douglas Thompson: Looses wheel and retires.

My ruling: Racing Incident. I would say that maybe the first 3 are going at it at tad too hard. I know it's one of the few chances to overtake, but the outcome when it goes wrong is obvious from this result... it's carnage.

Lap 28, T1. Dan Leach is running out of fuel and shift-R's. The shift-R limit for self-induced incidents is 0 in Div1.

  • Dan Leach — Self-induced Shift-R — 0 places lost

Moderator's Report

Lap 3, Beauval/Backstraight. Bill Worthington loses it coming out of Beauval and spins back onto the track, leaving Mike Wallace with no chance of avoiding him. The rest of the field does an amazing job avoiding what could have been a massive pile-up.

They both wait nicely for the main field to pass, parked on each side of the track, with Mike Wallace ahead. Mike Wallace then proceed to reverse back onto the track, right into the path of Adam Greenwood, who ends up upside down and have to shift-R (No Stop and Go taken, but he emailed me)

This was a very bad rejoin (normally 3 place penalty), but as Mike did wait and was somewhat blinded by the 1-car behind, this is reduced to a 1-place penalty.

Moderator's Report

L1T1, Mike Prickett vs Barty Mee.

Mike Prickett is on the inside and approaching T1, he downshifts 1 too many and slightly looses the car and drifts wide. Barty Mee is on the outside and takes the outside line and MP is drifting towards him and might have avoided contact, but a warp sucks MP into Barty, sending him off. (This was confirmed by Chris Darkes replay).

Warp Incident.

L1T1, Chris Darkes vs Neil Raine.

Very similar event. CD is on the inside and NR on the outside. NR cuts in very tightly and might have left enough space, but again, a warp decides to interfere and sends Neil spinning.

Warp Incident

Lap10. Pit exit Dave Randall vs Neil Raine.

Dave is exiting the pits just before Neil and Neil is following closely... too closely, infact, so when Dave brakes for the turn, Neil is caught out and dives to the inside, clipping Dave, sending him into a nasty spin.

As there's no 'real' braking zone in the pitexit, extra caution should be shown in those circumstances.

  • Neil Raine — Over ambitious passing attempt — 2 places lost

Moderator's Report

T1 Lap1:

Paul Taylor is on the inside line, behind Douglas Thomson, who's on the outside. Paul seemingly brakes in time, but slides out and hits Douglas and chaos ensues. Douglas ends up upside down and could have Shift-R'd and claimed no fault, but decides to retire instead.

Ashley McConnell's engine, after being bounced around, decided to give up and Shift-R's and takes a Stop'n'Go next lap, although this could also have been avoided by emailing me.

FWIW, I couldn't find any evidence of warps on the server replay, so I have to issue a 2 place penalty to Paul Taylor for colliding with Douglas Thomson.

  • Paul Taylor — Contact with D. Thomson — 2 places lost

Lap4, Somewhere deep in the German forest.

Paul Thurston, who started from the pitlane, is one lap down, and is trailing Dave Randall. Dave spins a fair bit ahead and half-recovers, but sensibly stops, with the nose on the track, but well off the racing line. Paul is blinded by a hump prior to that corner and most likely surprise, slides wide and hits the parked Dave.

Racing Incident.
