Moderator's Report

Firstly apologies for a slight delay in these results, I'll try not to let it happen again!

Well its nice to be moderating Division 1 again but I must admit to a tinge of regret that I'm not in there battling with you again. Oh well, time for a race review I suppose.

This was a great race to watch with the battle for the lead being decided by a spin on the final corner of the final lap in favour of Dan Leach over Mike P.

Before going on to a couple of incidents I do have one comment to make on pitstops. In the interests of fair play I expect drivers to enter the pitlane using the pit entry road at all races, not taking a shortcut over the grass to save time. Two drivers did this and although I will turn a blind eye this time I will issue a warning for it in future.

Lap 1 B Malc & Paul Taylor

On the entry to the loop B Malc goes to the inside of Paul Taylor and Dan Leach who are already side by side. Dan chooses discretion as the better part of valour and reaps his rewards by calmly taking the lead after contact between Paul and Malc sees them both off the track.

Malc was too ambitious, especially for the first lap in attempting to go three wide, this compromised his line which is compounded by not braking early enough for the corner and this caused contact with Paul Taylor.

  • Malc Bywaterspenalty — Contact from overly ambitious L1 move — 3 places lost

Lap 10 B Malc & Richard Lowe

Although stopped in front of Richard in the pits Malc has a longer pit stop in the lotus and Rob gets away first. Malc trails him out of the pits and then while they both accelerate away he runs into the back of him, although Richard slows slightly Malc has left no room for error. This in turn hampers the race leaders, particularly Dan Leach as they are about to lap Rob and Malc.

Penalty reduced owing to mitigating circumstances of Richard slowing slightly.

  • Malc Bywaterspenalty — Contact mitigated by Richard slowing — 1 place lost

Moderator's Report

Mexico saw the welcome return of Nathan Vald to UKGPL and the resumption of the sparring match between him and Chris Darkes.

Congratulations to Mike P on the win.

Turn 1 of the first lap had two incidents of warp causing delay to Ryk Penfold and Paul H.

Lap 4 Paul H & B Malc

Paul loses control under braking into the hairpin and although he does what he can to avoid contact with Malc he just tags the lotus and this loses Malc a couple of places.

There are mitigating circumstances however as Lol Speedfreak, who has just been overtaken by Malc after a mistake in the previous corner brakes early (approximately one lamp post compared to subsequent laps) this causes Paul H to brake much harder than necessary and take avoiding action, which causes him to loose control.

Racing Incident.

Lap 6 Lol & Paul Taylor

Lol has spun in turn 8 and although keeping to the side of the track he and Paul T tangle at the next corner.

Whilst Lol is rejoining after a spin he has nowhere else to go as there is a guardrail to his right. I feel Paul could have left more room for Lol as he knew he was there and would definitely pass him due to speed differences even though his line would be slightly compromised. Lol performs an unnecessary stop and go.

Racing incident.

I would like to draw attention to this incident for future races and request that drivers (especially in D1!) please allow each other room on track even if it does cause a very slight time delay, it will be less than the delay caused by contact as in this case.

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Mike Prickett on the win.

A few incidents however.

Lap 1 Ash McConnell

The start at Kyalami caused its usual mayhem due to the way the pit lane narrows. However Ash was the main cause of the problems as he did not keep to his side of the track and gave Paul Smith no room.

Lap 10 Dave Randall

Dave misjudges the entry to the pit lane for his pit stop and requires a stop and go, he makes his pit stop but does subsequently perform a stop and go.

  • Dave Randall — Failing to Stop and Go — 30.000 seconds added

Lap 11 Turn 5 Lol Speedfreak and Paul "Schumi" Thurston

Paul gets wide going into the corner allowing Lol to get the inside line for the corner, crucially though Lol was not completely alongside. Paul turns in and there is contact. I think this is typical of many accidents we have online - it could have been avoided if both drivers had allowed each other the room to race. That said I view this as a racing incident.

Lap 11 Dave Randall and Ash McConnell

Dave lifts off before the esses, Ash is right behind him and has no chance to avoid Dave's Lotus. Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

Another fine win for Mike Prickett.

Lap 8 B Malc and Dave Randall

B Malc slightly misjudges his braking at the final corner and taps Dave Randall who continues with virtually no time loss. There follows a small amount of confusion owing to the tight nature of the track here however the incident itself is relatively minor. Racing incident.

Lap 15 Lol and Ash McConnell

Lol misjudges his braking at Mirabeau and runs into Ash who is half spun round by the contact, Lol waits and lets Ash rejoin in front. Racing incident.

Lap 20 Lol and Ash McConnell

Ash runs straight on at the final corner and Lol can't avoid minor contact. Racing incident.

Lap 30 Ash McConnell

Ash performs a shift-r on the last lap and consequently can't perform a stop and go. 15 seconds added to race time.

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Chris Darkes on his maiden win in UKGPL Div 1.

Lap 1 B Malc and Mike Prickett turn 1

Malc locks his wheels and runs into Mike from behind.

  • Malc Bywaterspenalty — Rear ending M. Prickett — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Lap 2 Paul Harrington and Lol Speedfreak

Paul spins and Lol can't avoid him. Racing incident.

Lap 4 Neil Raine

Neil makes a bad rejoin after running out of road at Tarzan. Unfortunately he reverses back on track and this causes some mayhem for a few other drivers.

  • Neil Rainepenalty — Bad rejoin — 3 places lost

Moderator's Report

An excellent race with quite possibly the finest online battle I've seen in GPL between Nat Vald and Mike Prickett. Good close and fair racing between two excellent drivers.

There was a minor incident on lap one with B.Malc running into the back of Pete Shill, this was entirely unavoidable as Pete slowed much earlier than Malc would have expected. I believe Pete had wheel problems which caused him to slow.

Provisional results stand.
