Moderator's Report

Pitlane incidents where a little too frequent and i haven't made reference to all (or penalised any) of them. Please take more care when entering the pits in future as this will be monitored.

12 pitstops where taken too far away from the garages and most of the incidents where caused by either bad approach or bad positioning.

3 tracks spring to mind and i'm sure there are more, but you would not be able to position the cars like this at Watkins, Kyalami or Mosport without totally blocking the lane.

Cheers to the review team and good luck for the next round.

Lap 1 - Start.

Phil Harris gets out of control and spins. Collects Ian Pollock, Pete Allnut then hits Ian, Paul Bird then clips Pete, Vic then clips Pete and carries on to hit Phil, Baz then hits Pete, and to finish Sharon hits Paul.

Vic and Phil then do a syncro-Shift r and Launch each other.

  • Philip Harrispenalty — Lack of care at the start — 3 places lost

Lap 1. Masta Straight.

Andy Hodgson blows engine. Noel tries to avoid but hits Andy. Paul Skingley has no chance and hits Andy also. Aidan Harrison is also involved and hits both Paul S and Andy. Paul Adams who appeared to take evasive action, takes to the grass and on his return, is out of control and hits Jimmy Vark. Paul Adams tries to rejoin the track, but the pace of Baz West meant wherever on the track he had of been, would have resulted in a collision with Baz. (Sharon was behind Baz and lifted with a lot more conviction.)

However, Baz felt he slowed as much as he could safely with another car following him into Masta so closely. Although the execution was poor, his intentions were correct and what would normally be a 3 place penalty for lack of care approaching an incident is reduced to 1 place.

Paul takes a no fault Shift R and SnG.

  • Andrew Hodgson — Failing to Stop & Go following a Reset — 15.000 seconds added
  • Bazpenalty — Lack of care approaching an incident — 1 place lost

Lap 2 - Eau Rouge.

Paul Skingley is dropped by the server.

Finishes 11th.

Lap 3 - Pitlane.

Andy Hodgson rearends Baz West in the pits. Advice: Please take more care in the pitlane (it was noted that Andy waited for Baz to clear the pits before he did, nice gesture).

Lap 4 - approach to La Source.

Pete Allnut rearends Phil Harris. Slows for corner then revisits the throttle. Penalty reduced as no Shift Rs were required and no positions were gained.

  • picnicpenalty — Rear ending P. Harris — 2 places lost

Lap 5 - Pitlane.

Dave Taylor's pitstop was 8 seconds short. He was hit by Rick Bryant in the pit lane and claims this caused his lack of time keeping. I'm prepared to accept this, however, the time must be added to his finish time. Bias finished in 7th, but less than 8 seconds behind Dave. With this and Phil's penalty the results are changed dramatically.

The normal penalty for a short pitstop is 3x the shortfall. On this occasion i have reduced this to 1x. ie. 8 seconds owed, 8 seconds to add to this finish time as opposed to a potential 24 seconds.

  • Dave Taylor — Short pitstop — 8.000 seconds added
  • RIKBRIANT — Advice - take more care in the pitlane

Exit of Masta Kink.

Andy Hodgson hits a house at the Masta Kink. He uses a Shift R but does no Stop Go.

  • Andrew Hodgson — Failing to Stop & Go after a Shift R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 6 - La Source.

Aidan Harrison spins at La Source. From onboard he can see the approaching cars. In my opinion he should have stayed put until they passed. He chose to try to rejoin and this resulted in a collision with Vic Flores and Pete Allnut.

Aidan then Shift Rs but does not stop and go.

  • Aidan Harrison — Failing to Stop & Go after a Shift R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 7 - exit of Masta Kink.

Aidan Harrison collides with Vic Flores.

Racing Incident.

Advice: Please take more care when approaching out of control cars.

Start of Masta Straight.

Steve Strudwick touches the grass bank and from that point is a passenger. He had a better run on Kev but ran out of room on to the straight. There was a slight touch of warp on impact but the collision was inevitable. Dave Taylor was also a victim in this incident.

Moderator's Report

L1 S.Strudwick turns in with D.Taylor inside at T1. Dave is ahead at the point of impact and did nothing wrong, Steve simply didn't leave room for the warp. Fortunately Dave is unaffected while Steve spins out and loses several places. Considering the places lost and lack of damage I haven't penalised him any further places, but this was a dangerous move at a common accident black spot.

Always remember the warp from the car inside, and allow room for that as well as the car itself.

L1 Bias turns in at T1 & collides with P.Adams. Although Bias was ahead by a nose at the point of impact the corner was clearly not his to take and this rash move (just like S.Strudwick's above) created a great deal of carnage. Despite this P.Adams is unaffected & continues.

P.Skingley & P.Harris are forced together as they slow to avoid Bias and Paul spins out. R.Briant slows to avoid Bias and P.Harris but us unable to avoid Bias's sideways car. N.Wood rear-ends J.Schmidt and collides with M.Portman as they slow for the incident but this appears to have been unavoidable considering each driver would only have seen 4 cars ahead. P.Harris is hit by K.Williams' out of control car following an unrelated spin. Amazingly no one shift-R's.

L3 S.Strudwick passes P.Harris as they approach the final corner but Steve doesn't complete the pass before pulling back over towards the racing line and forces Phil into the trees. P.Harris is entitled to a non-fault Shift-R. The pass was on but it was poorly executed, there are no mitigating circumstances this time.

L5 A.Harrison has the inside line into T2 but M.Portman turns in and hits his back wheel, and spins out into a tree. Aiden continues unaffected and it looks like warp was the main cause, although it would have been better for Martin to back off a tad more to leave more room.

Racing Incident.

L6 Bias Rear-ends J.Schmidt braking for the second hairpin, R.Briant is unable to avoid Bias' car. Bias does his regular stop later that lap but SnG's on the following lap for the Shift-R.

L7 P.Bird spins out and despite slowing and taking avoiding action N.Wood is taken out by Paul's spinning car.

Racing incident.

L9 S.Strudwick has just passed N.Wood but Woodie hangs on into the braking zone at the end of the back straight. Steve clearly wasn't expecting this and turn in as normal straight into Woodie who has managed to not only outbrake Steve but also himself. This incident could easily be put down to either driver since if one had got it right the other would have hit them anyway. I've split the penalty between them. S.Strudwick does not SnG for his Shift-R.

  • Neil Woodpenalty — Over-Optimistic Passing Attempt — 1 place lost
  • Stephen Strudwickpenalty — Side by Side Contact — 1 place lost

  • Stephen Strudwick — Failing to SnG after a fault Shift R — 15.000 seconds added

L18 A.Harrison Shift-R's on the final lap and is unable to SnG.

  • Aidan Harrison — Failing to SnG after a fault Shift-R — 10.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

Lap1 B.West loses the back end, weaves and P.Skingley is unable to avoid his out of control car. B.West is not entitled to a non-fault Shift-R.

Racing Incident

  • Baz — Failing to SnG after a fault Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap1 N.Kellett loses it under braking into Club, swerves to avoid rear-ending S.Strudwick but spins across the track and Steve is unable to avoid his out of control car. This doesn't appear to be a passing attempt, Noel just braked too late on cold tyres & lost it.

Racing Incident.

Lap3 P.Adams is trying to out brake M.Portman on the inside but never gets alongside. As Martin turns in he hits Paul's front tyre. A small amount of warp played a part here and the penalty is reduced as a result but this is to be expected and Paul should have left more room. S.Cullen and P.Skingley are unable to avoid the incident.

  • Paul Adamspenalty — over-optimistic passing attempt — 1 place lost

Lap6 S.Strudwick spins at Stowe and is hit by S.Smith. It looks like S.Smith did see the waving yellow flag and attempt to slow, but he aimed for the inside line just as S.Strudwick moved forward in an attempt to get out of the way.

Racing incident.

Lap7 P.Harris spins out on his own in the final turn, and is recovering as J.Schmidt & N.Wood approach in the heat of battle. Jakob backs off when he sees the Yellow flag and Woodie takes advantage to get past. While it's possible that Woodie didn't see the yellow flag (the marshal is a long way from the track at that point) it's more likely that he just didn't think about it and assumed Jakob was letting him through.

  • Neil Woodpenalty — Lack of care approaching an Incident — 2 places lost

Lap 8 J.Schmidt spins entering pits and is hit by P.Harris who was unable to avoid his out of control car.

Racing Incident.

Lap12 Bias' pitstop was 2 secs short of the required 35 seconds for the Lotus. No advantage was gained though so the shortage is just added to the total race time.

Lap13 B.West missed the pit window by 1 lap. Stop was completed OK, but late. No advantage was gained here, apparently Baz just forgot to pit. Please make sure the pitstops are completed in the second quarter of the race. In a 24 lap race the latest a driver can stop is the end of lap12.

  • Bazcaution — Late Pitstop

Lap 14 P.Skingley spins out under pressure and S.Strudwick is unable to avoid him.

Racing Incident.

Lap 22 D.Taylor rear-ends S.Smith under braking. As the two of them recover Dave pops his engine & loses several places while waiting to reset. The incident is clear cut but bearing in mind the number of places Dave lost I've reduced the penalty.

  • Dave Taylorpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 0 places lost

Moderator's Report

Lap1 2:20 B.West has just passed M.Portman through a twisty section and as they brake for the next turn Martin just taps Baz & they both spin out. It's clear that Martin wasn't trying to pass and warp made the tap much worse than it needed to be so the penalty is reduced as a result.

Lap1 2:23 P.Skingley brakes to avoid the above incident but as he pulls away again A.Harrison barrels into him, apparently with no effort to brake or back off at all when he could easily have avoided the incident. AH passed no marshals between the incident happening and his adding to it though, so he would not have seen any yellow flags. The penalty is reduced from 3 places for this alone.

  • Aidan Harrisonpenalty — Lack of care approaching an incident — 2 places lost

Lap2 11:53 D.Taylor Spins out and collects P.Skingley who retires.

Racing Incident.

Lap2 17:42 P.Bird spins out, B.West manages to avoid him but M.Portman has nowhere to go.

Racing Incident.

Lap3 23:04 D.Taylor makes a Shift-R but cannot SnG because he does his regular stop.

  • Dave Taylor — Failing to SnG after a Fault Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap3 24:09 D.Taylor spins & A.Harrison is unable to avoid him.

Racing Incident.

Lap3 24:36 D.Taylor runs wide and A.Harrison runs around the inside, but Dave recovers and takes Aiden out. It's tough to call this a bad rejoin since Dave never technically left the track and Aiden was in his blind spot, although Dave should have known he was there having just wiped him out 25 seconds before and passed him as they both recovered.

  • Dave Taylorpenalty — Bad Rejoin — 1 place lost

Lap3 23:09 R.Briant spins out and slowly crosses the track as he rejoins, causing S.Smith to brake and swerve. There was quite a bit of this going on and given the narrowness of the track I'll let these go but normally this would be a 3 place penalty so please be more careful in future and try to rejoin the track pointing the right way, or as close as you can get.

Lap3 27:57 D.Taylor makes a Shift-R but cannot SnG because he does his regular stop.

  • Dave Taylor — Failing to SnG after a Fault Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap4 28:00 D.Taylor makes a Shift-R and attempts a SnG at the end of the lap but does not go below 15mph. I've reduced the penalty but if you Stop and Go, please do actually stop.

  • Dave Taylor — Failing to SnG after a Fault Shift-R — 5.000 seconds added

Lap4 35:25 R.Briant hits P.Bird who has just crashed & is recovering. Bryant should have seen the Yellow flag & had time to back off, but it's a twisty section of track so I'll give Rick the benefit of the doubt here.

Racing Incident.

Lap5 39:50 S.Strudwick overtakes Bias when Bias briefly goes onto the grass but as Bias regains control he hits Steve's rear wheel. Certainly not a deliberate move by Bias and Steve's pass was opportunistic at best but nevertheless it appears to be a result of loss of control.

Racing Incident.

Lap5 45:04 A.Harrison Shift-R's on the last lap and is unable to SnG.

  • Aidan Harrison — Failing to SnG after a Fault Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap5 45:27 D.Taylor rear ends R.Briant as they brake for the final chicane.

  • Dave Taylorpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

Lap5 45:54 D.Taylor's recovery from the last incident is appalling and he takes out R.Briant again in circumstances that were easily avoidable.

  • Dave Taylorpenalty — Bad Rejoin — 3 places lost

Moderator's Report

Lap2 D.Taylor rearends Bias at the Moss hairpin entry. Dave was able to continue immediately but Bias loses several places waiting to reset his upside down car. Bias is entitled to a non-fault Shift-R.

  • Dave Taylorpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

Lap3 N.Wood gets out of shape into T3 and P Adams is unable to avoid his out of control car. P.Adams is entitled to a non-fault shift-R but does a SnG anyway.

Racing Incident.

Lap4 P.Skingley spins out at the exit to the Moss Hairpin and tries to spin turn but doesn't quite pull it off & ends up causing N.Wood to take to the grass to avoid him. Paul does do his utmost to rejoin cleanly and brakes as soon as he realises Woodee is coming but it would have been better for Paul to reverse & get the car pointing the right way before attempting to rejoin.

Lap11 Bias comes in for his regular stop but it's only 10 seconds instead of 15. It looks like he realises this & SnG's the following lap so no further penalty is required.

Lap12 B.West spins & P.Bird is unable to avoid him, K.Williams is unable to avoid shunting Paul. Baz's rejoin is risky but given the circumstances there's not a lot else he could have done.

Racing Incident.

Lap12 As B.West recovers from the above incident D.Taylor attempts to out-drag him up the straight but as soon as Dave gets some overlap he weaves & seems to touch Baz's left rear tyre, spinning Dave out. The server replay shows no contact though so either warp was involved or Dave took avoiding action.

Racing Incident.

Lap14 A.Harrison slows suddenly at the end of the straight, presumably to type his pit in message. This understandably takes P.Harris completely by surprise & he is forced to take evasive action & spin out but fortunately does not lose position. Aiden then spins out just before the pitlane entrance & it's clear he wasn't concentrating on the road at this point. If this was caused by typing the PI message I recommend the use of gplwait to help make this as easy as possible while driving. Aiden's stop was 2 seconds short but considering the hesitancy & time wasted in the pitlane it's clear no advantage was gained so I'll let this pass.

Moderator's Report

Lap1 Accelerating away from the Grid P.Adams gets going & has plenty of room but drifts quite quickly to the right for no apparent reason, straight into P.Skingley who has no time to avoid this unpredictable move. It doesn't seem to be loss of control, the car didn't go sideways although Paul A was steering in the opposite direction, suggesting that maybe Paul A just needed to back off a little to regain control. Without further explanation the full penalty will need to apply. Paul S retires. Paul A is not entitled to a non-fault shift-R.

  • Paul Adamspenalty — side by side contact on Lap1 — 3 places lost

  • Paul Adams — failing to SnG after a fault Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap3 A.Harrison takes his scheduled stop 2 laps before the pit window. Please note that pitstops should be performed in the second quarter of any race. No advantage was gained by this though.

Lap4 N.Wood attempts to outbrake P.Bird into the first Lesmos, leaving his braking a little too late to stay on the inside and drifts out into Paul.

  • Neil Woodpenalty — over-optimistic passing attempt — 2 places lost

Lap10 P.Bird's stop is 1 second short. No advantage was gained so the time is just added to the race results.

  • paulwbird — Short Stop — 1.000 second added

Lap11 B.West's stop is 2 seconds short. No advantage was gained so the time is just added to the race results. Baz stops well away from the pit wall though, please make sure you get as far over into the pitbox area as possible in future.

  • Baz — Short Stop — 2.000 seconds added

Lap12 S.Strudwick rearends M.Portman as they brake for the second Lesmos. Steve was in the middle of the track but had no crossover to claim the corner.

Lap17 A.Hodgson has just passed B.West and moves right to cover the inside line into Curva Grande. Baz had the slipstream & was able to pass on the left, hugging the grass. Andy drifts back to the left to either take the racing line or block Baz , forcing Baz onto the grass. Andy's left front touches Baz' right rear and Andy backs off. This was a poor move (whether accidental or deliberate) but Andy, but no harm was done.

Racing Incident.

Moderator's Report

Lap3 M.Portman is chasing B.West into T1 and gets partly alongside on the outside. Baz leaves as much room as he can but Martin is in the middle of the track & gets taken out by warp from Baz.

Racing (Warp) incident.

Lap5 S.Strudwick shift-R's after a blown engine but does not SnG until Lap 14. A Stop & Go must be taken within two laps of an incident for it to be taken into account.

  • Stephen Strudwick — Failing to SnG after a fault Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap10 K.Williams gets on the inside of B.West down the pit straight. Baz turns into T1 and it's pretty clear he's leaving room but not enough, and with Kev hugged right up against the curb Baz gets taken out by either actual contact or a warp. Advice: When taking the outside line it's important to leave room for the warp, not just your opponent's car. A small amount of warp is normal in any race, as your connection is never 100% perfect and neither is theirs.

Racing (Warp) Incident.

Lap14 S.Strudwick SnG's for no apparent reason. See Lap5 incident above.

Lap33 Bias makes a Shift-R on the final lap and does a SnG just before crossing the finish. Given the unusual nature of this track with the S/F line after the pitlane exit I'll allow this with no further penalty.

Moderator's Report

Lap1 Baz West goes around the outside of N.Pellet and R.Briant into T2 but he's in Rik's blind spot & so as Rik takes the normal racing line taps Baz.

Racing Incident.

Lap 1 P.Skingley taps R.Briant and they both spin out. In Rik's haste to recover he floors it and drives straight into B.West and M.Portman who are both cautiously weaving through the mess. Paul's initial contact caused the incident and in view of this Rik's penalty is reduced, but he should still have waited until he was sure it was clear.

Lap9 R.Briant SnG's in the pits, should have been a 10 sec stop for the Cooper. Although this puts him ahead of M.Portman on track for the remainder of the race he doesn't gain any advantage since Martin is never really close enough to cause Rik to defend his position and hold Martin up.

  • RIKBRIANT — Short Stop — 10.000 seconds added

Lap11 - Steve Smith is rear ended by Bias as they brake for the hairpin. S.Smith is entitled no a non-fault Shift-R. Bias retires.

Moderator's Report

Lap1 P.Skingley moves to pass Bias on the left, Bias appears to move right to leave room and R.Briant takes avoiding action and spins out. The server replay shows no contact so if Rik did feel a hit I'd put it down to warp anyway.

Racing Incident.

Lap1 P.Skingley is squeezed off track by P.Harris, who clearly hasn't seen him. This is a situation where switching to the F10 view can help (but use both views so you can check your mirrors too). Paul S should have been aware that he was in a blind spot too though.

Racing Incident.

Lap2 P.Skingley rearends Bias as they brake over the T1 crest. N.Wood is unable to avoid Paul's spinning car. P.Skingley retires.

  • Tifosi312penalty — rear-end shunt — 2 places lost

Lap9 N.Wood spins at the entry to the final corner and N.Kellett is unable to avoid him.

Racing Incident.

Lap15 N.Wood brakes at his usual place for T3 but is rearended by N.Kellett who is not planning to brake for another 50 yards. Neither driver was particularly delayed by this incident. Neil was braking significantly earlier than he needed to, but was doing so consistently at this point, and this would have been clear to Noel had he followed Neil for some time. However, Neil centrelined the kink leaving Noel nowhere to go to avoid him, and considering Neil's hesitancy I have removed what would otherwise be a 2 place penalty to Noel for a rear end shunt. Noel really didn't do anything wrong except being taken by surprise by Neil's early braking.

Racing Incident.
