Moderator's Report

My first moderators report and I was pleasantly surprised by the small number of incidents. Please keep it up! I will try and turn all the reviews around before the next race but need your incident reports ASAP to make this possible. Overall a good race with only one incident requiring a penalty.

My first moderators report and I was pleasantly surprised by the small number of incidents. Please keep it up! I will try and turn all the reviews around before the next race but need your incident reports ASAP to make this possible. Overall a good race with only one incident requiring a penalty.

Lap 1 Start (Many drivers involved, have tried to break down the chain of events)

The rear of Mike Ratter's Eagle slides to the left off the line clipping the Ferrari of Tim Robey and then the Eagle of Alan Walker. Robert Burton slows because of the action ahead. Mikey Cooper gets a little slidey off the line and nudges Andy Charman into Robert Burton. Andy then gets across the track in front of Mikey Cooper who makes contact again with the side of Andy's car. Bryce Allen now decides he wants a bit of the action and gives Andys car another smack on the side. Tim Robey in recovering the Ferrari drives into Andy Short who has hung back and is now picking his way through the mess. Tims recovery gets no better as on getting the Ferrari pointing in the right direction he gets squeezed against the wall before the pit stalls by a recovering Mike Ratters.

As the grid was set to tight not staggered I have not given any penalties for these events. Please be aware of how necessary it is to avoid squirming sideways at the start and how important it is to wait until you are sure it is safe before trying to recover.

Lap 1 Blanchimont Robert Burton and Andy Short

Robert takes evasive action to avoid rear ending Mike Ratters and ends up on top of the hedge, he is joined a few seconds later by Andy Short. Robert takes a Shift R (at fault) but does not perform a stop and go.

  • Burtoner — Failing to Stop and Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 3 Malmedy Tim Robey, Gareth Hughes and Mike Cooper

Tim comes through Burneville with Robert Burton close behind. As they enter the left hander of Malmedy, Gareth is ahead of them struggling to regain control of his car after clipping a hedge, he spins across the track. Tim goes left to avoid Gareth, he does not slow and hits Gareth at around 125 MPH. Tim ends up about 3 fields away from the circuit. Unfortunately he then Shift R's directly into the path of Mike Cooper who hits him the instant he appears. Mike could only have seen a flash of red before "wtf" contact occurs. Tim does not take a stop and go for the original shift R.

I have not penalised Tim for his collision with Gareth and the subsequent Shift R collision as these situations are always difficult. It is generally best to go for the gap especially when there is another car reading the serial number of your gearbox as here. However, I feel that Tim should have taken more care over his Shift R to rejoin the circuit after the collision. Whilst he couldn't see the track from his position he could hear any approaching cars and a few seconds pause rather than immediately performing a Shift R would have been a better course of action. Please be aware of this in the future.

  • Tim Robey — Failing to Stop and Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 4 Start Finish straight Robert Burton

Robert blows his engine. Shift R taken with no stop and go.

This is the second time that a stop and go was not performed. Both of the missed shift 'R's were own fault uses so a stop and go is required within 2 laps. Please check the rules or email me for guidance if you are not sure when a stop and go is required.

  • Burtoner — Failing to Stop and Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 9 Stavelot Bryce Allen

Bryce gets the Honda a little too close to the inside of the corner and tangles with the scenery and as a result needs to SHift R. He does not take a stop and go. If you are in this situation 15 seconds will be added to your race time which is the average time for a shift r so there is no need to attempt a Shift R before crossing the finish line.

  • Greystreak — Shift-R on last lap (no chance to stop and go) — 15.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

Lap 1 Gareth Hughes and Mike Turner

Both drivers move towards middle of track and make contact whilst approaching turn 1. I consider this a racing incident, however I will be more likely to penalise a similar incident at Monza which is a known Turn 1 accident black spot.....

Lap 1, Gareth Hughes, Mike Turner

Gareth has managed to pass Mike through Gresil (Cooper passing Ferrari!) Gareth stays on right of straight. Mike just passes him before braking into Scierie, unfortunately Gareth has slipped in behind him and rear ends Mike. Gareth should have stuck to the tight side of the track. It was Lap 1 tyres were cold and he stood a chance of getting the place back in the corner being on the inside.

Lap 17 Andy Charman

  • Andy Charman — Failing to Stop & Go after Shift R — 15.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

There was no server replay for this race so I have only been able to review those incidents sent to me.

Lap 3 Gareth Hughes and Richard Kings

Gareth out brakes himself into Stowe collecting Richard. Gareth was off line at the time and I suspect that he missed his normal brake marker. However this is a rear ending so will be punished as such.

Moderator's Report

L2. Turn 2A 2B. T Robey, M Turner and B Allen.

Allen and Turner are side by side approaching the bend. They touch, perhaps due to warp, it's very hard to tell, and this sends them both spinning off the track. The following Robey comes over the crest to see Turner at right angles across the circuit infront of him, leaving him nowhere to go. Turner takes a shift-r but doesn't stop. He is not entitled to a shift-r here as this was a racing incident. His damage was caused by the racing incident, not the subsequent contact with Robey.

  • Michael Turner — Failing to Stop and Go after a Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

L2 5A R Kings and P McCluskey.

Kings overtakes McCluskey under a yellow flag. The rules say:

Yellow and green flags

"Drivers have a duty to drive safely and well within their limits when they have passed a yellow flag. Stay on the racing line unless it is blocked. Drivers may not overtake any car they are racing with, until they are sure they have passed a green flag or they are sure they have passed the incident and the green flag has been taken in."

There is no specific penalty for this in the guidelines but I would say that it was lack of care approaching an accident. However, Rich's pass on Paul wasn't dangerous so I'm happy to reduce the penalty, but it's fairly clear that he didn't think about the incident & continued racing through the corner. On that basis what would otherwise be a 3 place penalty is reduced it to a 1 place penalty for lack of care approaching an incident to 'give back' the place Rich gained.

  • Richard Kingspenalty — Lack of care under yellow flag and overtaking under yellow flag — 1 place lost

M Gilmour rear ends A Walker; 'classic' rear end, one of the few I've seen this season.

Lap4 P McCluskey takes a shift-r I gues for an engine problem but doesn't stop/go.

  • Paul McCluskey — Failing to Stop and Go after a Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

L24 White's Corner. M Gilmour and M Turner.

Gilmour rejoins infront of Turner approaching the entry to the start/finish straight. Turner goes down the inside of Gilmour attempting to pass and they make side by side contact. Turner should have left more room as Gilmour was against the verge and had nowhere to go.

  • Michael Turnerpenalty — Side by side contact — 2 places lost

Moderator's Report

Busy race to moderate - pit lane busier than Tesco's car park at christmas. I've left out the numerous single driver incidents.

L1 M Ratters, R Burton, M Turner, A Charman

M Ratters engine starts smoking as he approaches the bridge at the back of the circuit. As he sets up for the fast left hander the engine goes. He pulls to the left towards the grass. Due to the closeness of those following R Burton hits him and the crashing cars then collect M Turner and A Charman. The smoke was visible on the server replay for at least 10 seconds before the engine blew, I have had no replay from anyone affected so cannot tell if the following drivers had smoke on or off, having it on would have forewarned the possibility of a blow up and possible avoided this incident.

Racing Incident

Lap1 Parabolica P McCluskey, M Ratters, P Stenning, T Robey, R Burton

P McCluskey has spun at the Parabolica and is in the centre of the track facing the wrong way. All the above drivers tangle with him as they go round the corner. Most appear to have slowed a little due to the yellow flag being waved but are unable to miss the mess ahead of them. I don't think anyone is to blame for this as due to the nature of the corner approaching drivers were unable to see the exact location of the incident until they were on top of it.

Racing Incident

Lap 2 Lesmo 1 T Brookes A Walker

A really unfortunate incident which led to Alan losing the race win ( he was 2nd by about 5 seconds). T Brookes out brakes himself into Lesmo 1. He moves to the right and then onto the grass hitting Alan side on. I'm not sure if this was an overtaking move or not. With only Alan's replay and the server version as evidence I am treating it as such and am therefore applying the full penalty.

Lap 2/3 Pit Lane A Walker T Brookes

Both drivers did a shift r after the above incident and chose to pit - Alan did not need to as the shift r was not his fault. T Brookes enters the pits and clips the rear end of Alan's car whilst trying to stop.

Lap 8 P McCluskey blows the Honda engine on the back straight, performs shift r. No Stop and Go taken.

Lap 11 P McCluskey takes shift R Lesmo 1 . No Stop and Go taken.

Moderator's Report

The Start - Derek Howe and Robert Burton

Derek Howe is slow away and Robert Burton tries to pass him on the inside. To do this he puts his inside wheels on the kerb but he comes off the kerb too soon and his left rear wheel hits Derek's right front. Derek was pushed across the track and it was fortunate that there was no contact with other drivers. Robert lost control to a degree so I'm reducing what would have been a three place penalty.

  • Burtonerpenalty — Side by side contact — 2 places lost

The Start - Derek Howe, Alan Walker, Peter Gagg and Paul McCluskey

After recovering from the above incident Derek is on the left of the track with Alan alongside him. They both move towards the racing line and collide. Neither driver appears to be aware of the other so any blame here is shared. Peter can't avoid them and Paul can't avoid Peter. Peter and Paul are both entitled to no fault shift-Rs. Alan shift-Rs but does not stop'n'go.

Racing Incident

  • Alan Walker — Failing to Stop and Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 1 Entry to The Esses - Mike Ratcliffe and Dean Holloway

Having successfully negotiated the Howe-Walker-Gagg-McCluskey melee Mike and Dean make side by side contact. This was as a result of the confusion caused by the above and both drivers were probably sighing with relief at the time. Dean is entitled to a no fault shift-R.

Racing Incident

Lap 1 The Loop - Robert Burton and Mark Stone

Robert loses control under braking and rear ends Mark. Both drivers shift-R but only Mark is entitled to a no fault SR although he does a stop'n'go anyway.

Racing Incident

  • Burtoner — Failing to Stop and Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 1 The 90 - Stef Williams and Jason Daborn

Stef rearends Jason under braking. Jason entitled to a no fault shift-R. Stef took a voluntary stop'n'go and the end of lap 2 so I'm reducing the penalty.

  • Stef Williamspenalty — Rear ending Jason Daborn — 1 place lost

Lap 3 Exit of Big Bend - Mike Ratcliffe, Alan Walker, Peter Stenning and Andy Charman

Mike spins in Big Bend, bounces off the fence and finishes up in the middle of the track facing the wrong way. He thens rolls backwards and tries to steer off the track. Alan has just passed Peter and arrives to find Mike broadside across the track and can't miss him. Andy Charman avoids Mike and Alan but clips Peter's right rear with his left front. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if Mike had stopped in the middle of the track ( and shut his eyes and prayed ) he would have presented a much smaller target to the following drivers who would have had some chance of avoiding him. Peter was entitled to a no fault shift-R but did a stop'n'go. As a result of this incident Alan incurred engine damage and although he didn't shift-R for more than a lap it qualifies as no fault.

Racing incident

Lap 4 Entry to The Esses - Mike Ratcliffe and Paul McCluskey

Paul taps Mike from behind. Mike is not adversely affected so I'm not imposing a penalty but there is no excuse for this. Paul, please be more careful in future.

Lap 7 The Loop - Derek Howe and Richard Knights

Derek rearends Richard but there are mitigating circumstances. Derek was quicker than Richard through this turn and braked early to allow for this. However Richard ran over the inside kerb and slowed more than he usually did.

Racing Incident

Lap 12 The 90 - Jason Daborn and Stef Williams

Jason Daborn puts his left wheels off the road in the previous left hander and loses momentum allowing Tim Robey past on his right. The following Stef Williams follows Tim and gets alongside into the last turn but Jason turns in on the racing line. Jason should have been aware Stef was there.

  • RMJpenalty — Side by side contact — 2 places lost

Paul McCluskey did a grand total of 10 shift-Rs during this race and did not take one stop'n'go. Coasting into the pits with a blown engine before shift-Ring does not constitute a stop'n'go.

  • Paul McCluskey — Failing to Stop and Go after Shift-R x 10 — 150.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

Mexico proved it's usual self with lots of crashes and nightmare modding moments. Congrats to Jason on a fault free drive. It was just about the only one. (Except for Stef!)

M Gilmour & D Holloway Lap 1 Hairpin

Gilmour rear ends Holloway under braking for the hairpin.

P McCluskey and P Stenning Lap 1 Turn 1

McCluskey rear ends Stenning. Stenning takes a non fault shift-r.

P McCluskey & M Gilmour Lap1 Hairpin

Gilmour overtakes McCluskey down the inside approaching the hairpin and then they make contact as they hit the apex. The server replay is warping really badly so I have to call it a warp incident.

M Charman, M Turner, B Kings, M Ratters and D Howe Lap 1 Esses

Ratters is leading Kings going into the right hander. Ratters loses the rear end, slews across the track in front of Kings who somehow manages to avoid hitting him by coming to a complete stop. However, Turner is following and can't avoid hitting the stationary Kings. Similarly, the next car with Howe on board can't avoid Ratters who is now also stationary at right angles across the track. Then Charman comes around the bend and hits Howe who is stopped infront of him, facing the wrong way.

Racing incident

Charman takes a shift-r after this impact and as he enters the pit, he catches the entry barrier and removes a wheel. He does a shift-r and performs a stop/go but he is still a stop/go short.

  • Andy Charman — Failure to carry out stop/go — 15.000 seconds added

T Brookes & M Gilmour Lap 1 Esses

Side by side contact as Brookes rejoins the racing line after drifting wide to the right. In his mirrors Brookes could see Gilmour on his inside as he moved over and should therefore have left room.

T Brookes & R Kings Lap 2 Turn 2

Kings is leading Brookes who is too close and tags Kings as he slows for the corner.

P McCluskey & M Gilmour Lap 5 Peralta

McCluskey is riding the rail going round this corner and Gilmour is going for the pass on the racing line inside. Unfortunately for Gilmour, just as he gets alongside, McCluskey unglues humself from the barrier and spins across the track into Gilmour sending them both spinning off. Because McCluskey is out of control at the point of impact it's a racing incident.

P McCluskey & M Gilmour Lap 6 Esses

Gilmour is following McCluskey who warping all over the place. Contact is made but again I have to put it down to a warp incident.

P McCluskey Lap 7 Turn 2

McCluskey spins off and takes a shift-r but doesn't do his stop/go penalty.

  • Paul McCluskey — Failure to carry out stop/go — 15.000 seconds added

T Robey, M Stone and D Holloway Lap 19 Esses

Stone is leading this group and loses the rear end entering the corner. He catches a polo and is hit by Robey and launches into the air. Holloway unavoidably runs into Robey.

Racing incident.

Moderator's Report

Lap1 M.Turner and the rest of the lead pack take it easy into T3 and brake early, but A.Charman doesn't see this until it's too late. It's clearly not a passing attempt and he tries to avoid Mike, but the car won't steer with the brakes locked up. What would otherwise be a 3 place penalty is reduced because of the lack of control.

  • Andy Charmanpenalty — rear end Shunt — 1 place lost

Lap2 A.Charman loses it & slides into the barrier in the final turn. Instead of slowing down to about 50mph to unstick the car he carries on to the end of the corner at speed. This clearly wasn't planned railriding but please note that this carries a heavy penalty.

Lap3 M.Turner brakes late and rearends R.Burton, who braked early & was in the middle of the track (moving to the left). Mike's braking was a little late but he didn't really have anywhere to go with Rob not sticking to one side of the track. It would have been better for Rob to be more decisive here but even so he can't be blamed for the incident, and is entitled to a non-fault shift-R.

Lap4 A.Walker takes the inside line into T1 to pass R.Kings but ends up on the asprins on the inside. He makes a good effort to keep the car under control & away from Richard but Alan's car is thrown in the air by a bump & collects Richard.

Racing incident

Lap5 R.Burton blows his engine, Shift-R's but does not SnG. No time penalty applied since Rob retired before the finish.

Lap7 R.Burton Blows up again, pulls in to SnG but crashes in the pits & has to reset again. Considering the time lost in the pits I'll let this go, and he retires later in any case.

Lap8 S.Williams rearends a very slow D.Howe as they accelerate out of a corner. It looks like Derek is letting Stef through but it isn't clear why & certainly not what Stef would have been expecting at that point of the track.

Racing Incident.
