Moderator's Report

This is the first race where most of you were required to do pitstops so I've applied reduced penalties for infringements.

Lap 1 Turn 1 - Matt Smith & Leroy Bailey

Matt takes the racing line into T1 and his right rear tyre hits Leroy's left front. Leroy was in Matt's blind spot but moving across the track into the first turn of the race is liable to cause problems with so many cars around. This being the first race of the season I'm going to call this a...

Racing incident

Lap 1 Turn 4 - Andy Charman & Steven Foster

Andy brakes late and rearends Steven.

  • Andy Charmanpenalty — Rearend shunt — 2 places lost

Lap 6 Pit Straight - Michael Turner & Peter Stenning

Michael is faster than Peter on the straight and attempts to pass on the left where there isn't any room. He gets on the grass, loses control and collects Peter.

  • Michael Turnerpenalty — Overambitious overtake — 2 places lost

Lap 6 Turn 1 - Chris Phillips, Tim Brookes & Mike Ratcliffe

Chris spins to the outside of the turn and then drives straight into the path of Tim. Mike can't avoid the crash. Tim & Mike claimed and are eligible for no-fault shift-Rs.

Pitstop short by 6 seconds

Lap 11 Pitlane - Michael Turner

Pitstop short by 4 seconds

Lap 13 Turn 1 - Herb Moore & Mike Ratcliffe

Racing incident

Andy Charman failed to make a pitstop.

  • Andy Charmancaution — Failure to perform pitstop — 30.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

Start - Andy Charman & Richard Palmer

Andy gives it too much welly at the start, turns sharp left and collects Richard.

  • Andy Charmanpenalty — Side by side contact — 3 places lost

Lap 1 Les Combes - Alan Walker & Paul McCluskey

Paul gets out of shape under braking and runs two wheels up the bank on the inside of the turn. As he comes back on to the track his right front wheel hits Alan's left rear.

Racing Incident

Lap 1 La Source - Mike Ratcliffe, Richard Palmer, Mike Cooper & Paul McCluskey

Mike outbrakes himself and ends up against the hay bales facing the wrong way with his view of the track behind obscured by spectators on the inside of the turn. He spin turns and is stationary in the middle of the track where he is hit by Richard who can't see him until it's too late. Richard ends up facing the wrong way at the entrance to the turn and then drives straight into the front of Mike. Paul then arrives and brakes too late to make the turn and hits Mike and Richard.

Spin turns are a bad idea unless you have a good view of the track behind or you have no other option eg Monaco. I'm reducing Mike's penalty by one because of poor visibility and giving Paul a warning because he could have avoided running into the cars ahead.

  • Paul McCluskeywarning — Lack of care approaching an incident
  • Ratterspenalty — Bad rejoin — 2 places lost
  • Richard Palmerpenalty — Bad rejoin — 3 places lost

Lap 2 Masta - Tim Brookes, Alan Walker & Michael Turner

Tim loses it and is hit by Alan. When Michael arrives Alan is not visible against the background. Alan & Tim are on opposite sides of the track and it looks as though Michael misjudges Alan's speed as he tries to "thread the needle" and he hits Alan.

Racing Incident

Lap 3 Eau Rouge - Tim Brookes & Mike Ratcliffe

Mike loses it at the top of the hill and is hit by Tim. This incident shows the value of attaching replay clips to incident reports. On the server replay there is a yellow flag. On Tim's replay there isn't.

Racing Incident

Lap 3 Pitlane - Andy Charman

Pitstop short by 3 seconds. Penalty 3x the time gained.

Lap 4 Pitlane - Chris Phillips

Pitstop short by 9 seconds. Penalty 3x the time gained.

Lap 7 Eau Rouge - Herb Moore & Tim Brookes

Herb loses it and runs up the bank on the left of the track. As he slides back onto the track Tim assumes that he will keep sliding. He doesn't. Bang.

Moderator's Report

There were very few incidents at a venue which is usually a crashfest. Congratulations all.

Lap 1 Virage de la Gare - Matt Smith & Leroy Bailey

Leroy lunges down the inside of Matt in a move that was never on and contact was inevitable.

Lap 1 Exit of Tabac - Leroy Bailey & Matt Smith

It looks as though Matt was considering a pass and then thought better of it. As he slows he moves accross the track and his nosecone hits Leroy's right rear wheel.

  • Matt Smithpenalty — Side by side contact — 3 places lost

Moderator's Report

There was a pile up at the start but I'm not going to penalise anyone because it was, to a degree, my fault. The race was run with the standard 3x2x3 tightly packed grid which is a recipe for disaster when racing online because of the number of cars visible. I had asked for the grid to be changed. If I'd realised that it hadn't been then I would have advised everyone to take it very easy at the start.

Lap 3 T2 - Alan Walker & Matt Smith

Alan goes off the track at T2 and rejoins at the exit of T3 right in front of Matt causing a collision.

  • Alan Walkerpenalty — Bad rejoin — 3 places lost

Lap 4 T2 - Andy Charman, Sam Appleton & Andrew Livingston

Sam attempts to pass Andy on the inside at T2. There is a warp contact which pitches Andy into the scenery leaving Sam unaffected. When the unfortunate Andy resets he is passed by Andrew and hit with another warp contact where he is the only one affected.

Warp incidents

Lap 8 Scierie - Peter Byles & Leroy Bailey

Leroy rearends Peter under braking. I'm reducing the penalty by 1 because Peter does brake early. However this is a wide straight piece of road where it's easy to avoid braking directly behind another driver.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1 Copse - Steven Foster & Andy Charman

Steven starts on the inside of the track and stays there into the first turn (Copse). Andy stays on the outside of the track through T1. Steven moves across the track at the exit of T1 and his left rear wheel hits Andy's right front.

  • Steven Fosterpenalty — Side by side contact — 3 places lost

Lap 1 Stowe - Michael Turner & Steven Foster

Michael makes a valid attempt to pass Steven on the inside under braking. While Steven might have given him more room Michael is unable to maintain a tight line through the turn and there is contact.

Racing Incident

Lap 2 Becketts - Michael Turner & Richard Kings

Michael spins backwards over the inside kerb and immediately rejoins the track. He narrowly misses Mike Cooper but hits Richard.

Moderator's Report

There are a couple of incidents here that were caused by a rather large difference in cornering speeds. I suspect there were a few more that weren't reported.

Lap1 T3 (1:28) - Alan Walker & Andrew Livingston

Alan brakes too late and rearends Andrew. Andrew claims and is entitled to a no-fault shift-R.

  • Alan Walkerpenalty — Rearend shunt — 3 places lost

Lap 1 (2:31) - Michael Turner, Alan Walker, Mike Cooper, Peter Byles, Andy Charman & Andrew Livingston

Michael half spins, loses momentum and ends up on the outside of the turn. He then moves accross the track and into Alan who is passing on the inside. This leaves both cars stationary at the exit of a blind turn. The other four drivers negotiate them with varying degrees of success. There is heavy contact between Peter & Andy as a result but I see no reason to penalise anyone other than Michael.

  • Michael Turnerpenalty — Side by side contact — 3 places lost

Lap 1 (6:04) - Michael Turner & Alan Walker

Alan is chasing Michael through the fast corners after Bergwerk. Michael is slow through one of the lefthand turns and is hit from behind by Alan.

Racing incident

Lap 4 (36:10) - Richard Kings & Alan Walker

I don't know the names of most of the corners at this track. This is at the left turn over a brow in the last quarter of the track. Alan had been chasing Richard for most of the lap and Richard is slow and wide at the entry to the turn and catches Alan out. Contact ensues.

Moderator's Report

Lap 1 Country - Andrew Livingston & Mike Ratcliffe

Mike brakes too late and rearends Andrew.

  • Ratterspenalty — Rearend shunt — 3 places lost

Lap 1 Melling Crossing - Steven Foster & Andrew Livingston

Steven gets alongside Andrew on the straight but under braking moves accross the track to the outside and hits Andrew.

  • Steven Fosterpenalty — Side by side contact — 3 places lost

Lap 1 Tatts - Michael Turner, Mike Ratcliffe & Alan Walker

Mike rearends Michael. I'm reducing the penalty because Michael was slow into the turn. I'm not reducing it to a racing incident because Mike appears to be on the limit and not making any allowance on the first lap. GPL allows Mike to reset immediately in front of Alan who has no chance of avoiding contact.

  • Ratterspenalty — Rearend shunt — 2 places lost

Lap 20 Melling Crossing - Steven Foster & Mike Ratcliffe

Mike loses control under braking, gets two wheels on the grass & as a result rearends Steven. I'm ruling this a racing incident because of loss of control.

Moderator's Report

Lap 5 Rindtkurve - Andy Charman & Peter Stenning

Andy spins and finishes up against the wall on the outside of the turn. Extracting himself from the wall causes Andy to lurch accross the track and he hits Peter. I'm reducing this to a warning because this is not an easy position to recover from.

  • Andy Charmanwarning — Bad rejoin — also, 2 places lost for penalty points

Lap 15 Between T1 & T2 - Alan Walker, Mike Ratcliffe & Andrew Livingston

Alan & Mike indulge in synchronised spinning at T1 and Mike loses a wheel. As they get going again Andrew arrives. Andrew takes care approaching them but as all three are accelerating away Mike's engine blows and Andrew has no chance of avoiding him.
