Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Ralph Maiph on a steady drive to a well deserved victory. Ralph managed to avoid the mayhem at the Curva Grande on lap 1 and drove the rest of the race faultlessly. He was pushed all the way by Karl who may well have won the race if it hadn’t been for an incident at the Parabolica on lap 11.

Both Dean and Ronnie took a Stop & Go as a result of their Shift-Rs on lap 1, incurred because they hit wreckage. Normally a stop & go should be taken after a shift-R because a driver has failed to slow down and crashed into an incident. However, lap 1 incidents are difficult to see due to the limited numbers of visible cars (especially for 56k dial-up connections) so in this case I would not have expected Dean or Ronnie to make a Stop & Go.

A couple of Lotus and Eagle drivers spun up the rear wheels several times during the pit stops in order not to be discoed by GPL. This isn't really necessary. One good spin up after about 15 seconds will suffice. You will only increase the risk of blowing your engine by spinning and over-revving.

Paul Bird and Steve Peake - Lap 1 Main Straight

After qualifying an excellent 6th in the Honda, Paul gets bogged down and is slow off the line. Derek storms past on the left and Mike slips by on the right. Meanwhile Steve has got his Cooper rolling and is trying to get tucked in behind Derek. Paul sees Mike but not Steve who is slightly further back and in his blind spot. Paul moves left to give Mike some room and unwittingly collides with Steve who has drifted slightly right. After that all hell breaks loose. Lesson here is to hold your line at the start, if someone gets past they know where you are and it's their responsibility to make a clean pass.

Steve Peake was entitled to make a no-fault Shift-R.

  • paulwbirdwarning — contact; failing to S&G after Shift R — 15.000 seconds added

Galiesch Darksoul and Paul Skingley - Lap 1 Curva Grande

Paul is in second place and closing fast on Karl Doyle's Lotus as they enter the Curva Grande. Paul has to take avoiding action to avoid rear-ending Karl which forces him wide. Galiesch sees the gap on the inside and goes for it but can't hold a tight enough line. Meanwhile Paul has scrubbed off his excess speed and corrects his slide. Both cars end up off the racing line and in the middle of the track. Consequently Paul and Galiesch make side by side contact and a multiple car pile-up ensues. Paul had to move off line to avoid rear ending Karl which left a gap that Galiesch was entitled to go for.

Racing Incident.

Although this was a racing incident, it does not alleviate the need to do a stop-and-go for the shift-R.

  • simon loynes — Failure to make a Stop & Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added
  • Tifosi312 — Failure to make a Stop & Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Galiesch Darksoul and Andy Nevill - Lap 1 Curva Grande

After the incident with Paul, Galiesch is trying to rejoin and correctly waits until the track is clear. After navigating around Claudio’s stricken Eagle Galiesch moves off the racing line and starts to build up speed. Unfortunately he doesn't leave quite enough room and is tagged by Andy's Cooper. Although Galeiesch could have moved further left whilst building up speed, classing this as a bad rejoin would be rather harsh especially since no shift-Rs were necessary. Having said that only some excellent driving from Steve Peake (avoiding Galiesch's spinning Honda) prevented another pile-up.

Racing incident.

Andy Neville, Claudio Navonne and Phil Thornton - Lap 2 Parabolica

Andy is trying to hold Galiesch at bay by claiming the inside line for the Parabolica. Claudio is trying to pass Phil and is also on the inside line. Claudio possibly brakes a little early and is rear-ended by Andy, catapulting him into Phil. The wreckage of three cars litters the track and Galiesch sails by. Andy must take the blame for this incident. Although Claudio may have braked earlier than Andy expected, Andy hadn't followed Claudio for any appreciable time in order to learn his braking points. Claudio braked at his normal point and Andy should have been ready.

Claudio Navonne is allowed a no-fault shift R.

Note: Andy did a Stop & Go on the next lap but stopped for 35 seconds (lucky not to be discoed by GPL). Stop & Go for a shift-R means just that; not a lengthy pit stop.

  • Andy Nevillpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

Claudio Navonne and Dean Holloway - Lap 2 Parabolica

Claudio looses the offside front wheel in the shunt with Andy so he has to take a shift R. His car is repositioned on the outside of the Parabolica but as Claudio pulls away he wanders towards the middle of the track right into the path of Dean Holloway's Honda. Dean skilfully negotiates his way around the outside almost spinning in the process. Claudio should have clung to the outside of the track and not migrated towards the racing line until he was up to speed. Resulted in Dean loosing both momentum and a place to Ronnie.

Karl Doyle and Steve Peake - Lap 11 Parabolica

Karl carries good speed through Ascari and overtakes Steve down the straight and is well ahead as they approach the Parabolica. Karl is on the inside line and brakes early maintaining full control. Steve brakes a lot later and closes the gap dramatically but fails to maintain full control under heavy braking. Consequently Steve makes side by side contact with Karl and both cars spin off the track. Steve would probably have made the corner if Karl had not been on the inside line, however, having made a clean pass Karl was entitled to be there and cannot share any of the blame for the incident.

Note: Almost identical situation on lap 14 same drivers, same corner. This time Steve maintains full control under braking and Karl makes a clean pass on the inside. Excellent driving from both competitors.

  • festerpenalty — Side by side contact — 2 places lost

Derek Howe and Mark Pitchford - Lap 13 Curva Grande

Derek slipstreams past Mark down the pit straight and is well ahead on the inside line on the approach to Curva Grande. Mark leaves his braking a bit late and rear-ends Derek. Mark is on the racing line but Derek has won the corner and Mark should have given way.

Mark Pitchford Shift R's after the previous incident.

  • Mark Pitchford — Failure to make a Stop & Go after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Mick Chapman and Steve Peake - Lap 20 Parabolica

Steve leaves his braking too late and rear-ends Mick on the entry to the Parabolica.

Mick Chapman is allowed a no-fault shift R.

  • festerpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

Moderator's Report

Lap 8 The Loop M Chapman & B West

Baz has just spun and rejoins the track but he doesn't look to his right before getting back onto the racing line and is hit by the next car driven by Mick who had no yellow flag but a long visual warning. However, braking on this corner is very difficult so the blame lies with Baz. The 3 place penalty is reduced to 2 places as he did wait while 2 cars passed but just overlooked the third with Mick on board.

  • Bazpenalty — bad rejoin — 2 places lost

Lap 9 Esses K Doyle & D Howe

Karl has been following Derek for a while very closely and rear ends him as they approach the left hander.

  • Karl Doylepenalty — rear end shunt — 2 places lost

Lap 10 Start/finish straight P Boatman & M Chapman

Mick is following Pete who loses control on the last corner and slews the rear to the left, scrubbing off speed. Pete runs into him.

Racing incident

Lap 14 The Loop Ben Summers & Ronnie Nilsson

Ben rear ends Ronnie

Lap 14 Approaching the Loop R Nilsson & P Skingley

Ronnie rejoins after his contact with Ben but doesn't check his mirrors where he would have seen the approaching P Skingley who unavoidably runs into him. Ronnie did a stop/go penalty so I'm reducing his penalty by 1 place.

Lap 28 Esses B West & C Navonne

Baz is rejoining from the left after contact with Mike Ratters but he doesn't check his mirrors before pulling onto the track in front of Claudio who runs into him.Claudio could have moved over but I can see that he didn't expect Baz to pull out. I'm reducing Baz's penalty to 2 places as Claudio was slightly at fault for not moving aside.

  • Bazpenalty — bad rejoin — 2 places lost

Lap 28 R Nilsson & C Navonne

Claudio is rejoining after a shift-r but moves onto the racing line without checking his mirrors and forces the following car driven by Ronnie off the circuit and out of the race. Had he looked in his right hand mirror first, this would have been avoided as Ronnie is clearly visible.

Lap 29 Esses Baz West & Mike Ratcliffe

Mike is approaching the tight right hander under a waved yellow flag and comes upon Baz right across the track in front of him recovering from a recent spin. Mike was going round a blind bend under a waved yellow at 124mph which although a little slower than his usual 131mph was still too fast.

  • Ratterspenalty — lack of care approaching an accident (reduced by 1 due to restricted visibi — 2 places lost (plus 2 for penalty points)

Lap 29 Server drops D Howe who actually finishes 5th

Paul Skingley's pit stop was short by 5 seconds so...

  • Tifosi312 — Short pitstop — 15.000 seconds added

Well, congrats to Ralph Maiph on winning. That's the good bit but now for the bad bit. Lots of incidents, many of which were not reported to me and generally a pretty poor standard of driving. Be prepared to get upset.

Lap 1 Esses M Chapman & C Navonne

Mick is following Claudio and clips him as they approach the right hander. More care needed at the start of lap 1.

  • Mick Chapmanpenalty — rear end shunt on lap 1 — 3 places lost

Lap 1 The Loop P Boatman & K Doyle

Pete is following Karl and taps him as they approach the long right hander.

  • Peter Boatmanpenalty — rear end shunt on lap 1 — 3 places lost

Lap 5 The Loop K Doyle & B Summers

Karl is chasing Ben and goes down the inside on the right hander but as they are side by side, they touch and Ben is thrown off the circuit. Karl continues unaffected. I originally thought that this was an over ambitious overtake partly mitigated by a slight loss of control as Karl bounces off the right hand Armco just before the crash. However,I've decided that the presence of a Honda in front of Ben may have made him brake unusually early so I'm reducing this to a warning to Karl for being a bit gung ho with this maneouvre.

  • Karl Doylewarning — over ambitious overtake (reduced)

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Simon Loynes on a very fine win especially by taking the Honda at Mexico and driving a faultless race from start to finish. Any new drivers would be well advised to watch the replay of his drive. Special mention to Syd Drake who managed to pilot the BRM into 3rd place in his first race with UKGPL. Well done.

Lots of incidents again as there usually are here. I'll just get my red pen out......

Lap 1 Start/finish straight Nigel Bradbury

Nigel started from 2nd place on the grid and then moved from right to left across the track and then back to the right all before the first corner. I'm assuming this was lack of car control rather than a deliberate attempt to baulk other drivers. Keeping in a straight line under full control at the start is absolutely fundamental to clean online racing.

  • Nigel Bradburypenalty — lack of care at the start — 3 places lost

Lap 1 Start finish straight A Neville and R Maiph

Nigel Bradbury sets off from 2nd place to the right of the grid and weaves across the track to the left and then back to the right. This causes Ronnie Nilsson a heart stopping moment as he is in the line of fire but there is no contact thanks to Ronnie's quick reactions. Pete Boatman is next in line directly behind Nigel. Pete eases off the throttle in response to Nigel and Ronnie's near miss in front of him. The following Andy Nevill has to brake to avoid Pete and then the impact comes as Ralph Maiph, who is behind Andy, can't brake in time and runs into the back of Andy.

Racing Incident

Lap 2 Hairpin R Nilsson and M Chapman

Mick rear ends Ronnie under braking.

  • Mick Chapmanpenalty — rear end shunt — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Lap 4 Hairpin Ronnie Nilsson and Mick Chapman

Ronnie is attempting to pass Syd's BRM approaching the hairpin. Mick is following. Ronnie moves to the right out of Syd's slipstream intending to outbrake him down the inside of the corner. Ronnie realises he can't make it and moves back to the left but doesn't allow for Mick who is right behind him. Contact follows.

  • Ronnie Nilssonpenalty — side by side contact — 2 places lost

Laps 5, 9 and 11

Nigel Bradbury Shift-r with no stop/go means a 15 second time penalty for each

  • Nigel Bradbury — Shift-Rs with no Stop and Go — 45.000 seconds added

Nigel Bradbury pit stop

This stop was short by 17 seconds multiplied by three means a 51 second penalty.

Lap 6 Baz West and Bernie Darwin

Bernie has just tangled with Ralph Maiph and is at right angles to the track with his gearbox against the Armco. He then pulls onto the track into the path of Baz who is clearly visible in Bernie's right hand mirror.

  • berniepenalty — bad rejoin — 3 places lost

Lap 10 Entrance to the pits Mark Pitchford & Ben Summers

Mark was ahead of Ben and signaled P.I. which Ben missed. Mark slowed for the pits and Ben rear ended him.

Lap 11 Nigel Bradbury and Simon Loynes

Nigel has spun and reverses back onto the track in front of the approaching Simon Loynes with no attempt to ensure the way is clear. Simon reacted very quickly and managed to avoid impact and keep his car from crashing off.

Lap 14 Mark Pitchford & Ralph Maiph

Mark had been following Ralph for a while and ends up rear ending him mid-corner.

  • Mark Pitchfordpenalty — rear end shunt — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Mark then performed a shift-r but did not stop/go.

  • Mark Pitchford — failure to carry out stop/go penalty — 15.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

A brilliant drive by Nigel Bradbury marred by the use of the Kyalami Pit Wall patch which constitutes a technical infringement of the rules which means he must be disqualified from the result. This may appear harsh but the rules are quite clear and applicable to everyone. The pit lane entry at Kyalami is very tricky and a significant advantage can be gained by removing the pit wall as Mick Chapman will attest. Mick clipped the wall when attempting to make his pit stop and lost a considerable amount of time recovering before deciding to do another lap before re-pitting.

This means Syd Drake is promoted to top spot on the podium, well done Syd. Everybody completed their pitstops successfully but some drivers, notably Claudio, took slightly longer than required. In fact Claudio pitted for 41 seconds when the required pitstop for the Eagle was only 25 seconds. You will be penalised for short pitstops but you won't win races by loitering in the pit lane.

Lap 1 Turn 1 - Andy Nevill and Paul Skingley

Paul starts from third spot on the outside of the grid and tries to hold a wide line round turn 1 in case any cars are on the inside. Unfortunately with cold tyres and a full tank the grip is not as good as it should be and the rear end of Paul's Ferrari steps out and he starts to spin. Andy has made a good start from fourth position and holds a tight line on the inside of turn 1. Andy can't avoid Paul's car and makes contact with the offside front wheel of the Ferrari. Luckily for Paul this halts his spin and he regains control and continues. Sadly Andy pirouettes onto the inside of the track and rejoins in last place.

Racing Incident.

Lap 1 Turn 1 - Claudio Navonne, Steve Peake and Ronnie Nilsson

Claudio's Eagle is warping very badly. Steve brakes in plenty of time but rear ends Claudio. Ronnie runs wide trying to avoid the mayhem. This incident was clearly caused by warp and no-one can be held accountable. Fortunately all three drivers were able to continue without losing too much time.

Racing Incident - Warp assisted.

Lap 1 Turn 5 - Claudio Navonne and Baz West

Baz outbrakes Claudio and takes the inside line. Claudio is warping badly and although no contact is made (according to the server replay) he is shunted off.

Racing Incident - Warp assisted.

Lap 1 Turn 5 - Ben Summers and Derek Howe

Derek leaves plenty of space on his right and Ben sees an opportunity to pull along side. Unfortunately Ben gets a couple of wheels on the grass and looses the car under braking. Consequently he makes side by side contact with Derek. Pity, there wasn't much point in going for the gap anyway it was highly unlikely that Ben would have been able to drive all the way round Derek.

  • Ben "Welling" Summerspenalty — side contact (reduced) — 1 place lost (plus 3 for penalty points)

Lap 2 Turn 7 - Claudio Navonne, Andy Nevill and Ronnie Nilsson

Claudio loses his Eagle in turn 7 and ends up in the middle of the track facing the wrong way. Ronnie and Andy are only a couple of seconds behind but the exit to turn 6 is blind and Ronnie doesn't see Claudio's Eagle (which is warping badly) until it's too late but nevertheless he manages to jump on the brakes. Andy is unsighted by Ronnie's Brabham and can't see Claudio's Eagle even though it appears to leaping 6 foot up in the air. Ronnie has to brake unexpectedly and Andy tries to take to the grass to avoid him but still makes contact. Cannot accuse Ronnie or Andy of not taking care since there were no yellow flags and the exit to turn 6 is blind.

Racing Incident

Ronnie entitled to a no fault shift-R.

Lap 12 Turn 9 - Andy Nevill and Karl Doyle

Karl is slipstreaming Andy's Eagle on the approach to turn 9. Consequently the Lotus is really quick but it doesn't have a nitrous kit and Karl goes for a gap that just isn't there. He tags Andy and catapults him into the armco. Slight evidence of warp on server replay.

  • Karl Doylepenalty — Overambitious Overtake (reduced owing to warp) — 1 place lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Lap 12 Nigel Bradbury

Nigel pulls in to take his pit stop but drives straight through the pit wall. Obviously has the pit wall patch installed.

  • Nigel Bradbury — Technical Infringement (pit wall removal patch) — excluded

Lap 15 - Turn 3 - Paul Skingley and Galiesch Darksoul

Galiesch blew his Honda engine on the approach to turn 3 and pulled off the track out of the way of following cars. Once they were clear he did a shift-R and proceeded to rejoin the race keeping well off the racing line until he was up to speed. Paul was approaching turn 3 fast, saw the yellow flags a litle late and tried to slow down but applied the brakes with the offside wheels on the grass. Consequently Paul lost control and ploughed into the back of Galiesch.

Galiesch Darksoul - entitled to make a no fault shift-R

  • Tifosi312penalty — Lack of care approaching an incident (reduced) — 1 place lost

Lap 16 Turn 2 - Baz West and Derek Howe

Baz, Derek and Paul Skingley were having a titanic battle for a couple of laps. Baz is trying to pressurise Derek into a mistake but the adrenaline rush is too much and he rear ends Derek in turn 2. No evidence of warp on the server replay and no client replay supplied so no mitigating factors.

  • Bazpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Paul Skingley on his win. He's going to have to repeat this a few more times if he is to catch Raiph for the championship lead.

There is no server replay for this race so I have had to rely on a client replay and a handful of incident replays to mod this race. I have therefore been lenient in all cases where I have managed to see an incident. This is because there may have been other incidents where a guilty party didn't submit a replay of an incident they were responsible for. I don't want to penalise honesty.

Having said that, it appears to have been largely incident free and I have seen no mistakes which warranted a penalty. If you know different and have a replay of the incident, please submit it to me asap

Lap 1 T1 S Drake M Pitchford and several undetermined others

Syd is following C Navonne who slews his car to the right causing Syd to move right as a reaction to avoid a contact. This took Syd into the side of Mark who was to his right. Several other cars then got caught up in the resultant pile up.

Racing Incident

Lap 17 Gasworks S Drake and Derek Howe

Syd fails to brake and rear ends Derek. Syd's real life brake box slid out from under him and this caused the accident. Derek managed to continue at no disadvantage so I'm calling it an equipment failure.

Please make sure your equipment is securely fastened before you race online.

Lap 19 Between T1 and T2 S Drake and M Pitchford

Syd gets wedged against the rails as Mark goes alongside to his right. Syd manages to break free and they continue up the hill side by side. From the client replay this looks like a warp contact.

Moderator's Report

An aggressive start by Paul enabled him to get the drop on pole sitter Ralph and consequently snatch the lead into Tarzanbocht. A race long battle then ensued with Ralph applying relentless pressure to Paul in the hope that he would make a mistake. Paul didn't crack and the opportunities for a pass were few and far between. Nevertheless Ralph made a couple of valiant efforts to get by but Paul held on to win by the slimmest of margins. A brilliant performance by both drivers.

Lap 1 Tarzanbocht - Mark Pitchford and Ronnie Nilsson

Ronnie is on the inside line on the approach to Tarzanbocht but is held up slightly by Galiesch who brakes early. Mark is on the outside and tries to overtake Ronnie but doesn't get along side and Ronnie can't see him. Both drivers try to take the racing line on the exit of Tarzanbocht and touch.

Racing incident.

Note: Driving round the outside is always an ambitious move and is unlikely to be successful unless there is a huge difference in driver ability. Clearly not the case if two drivers have qualified in similar positions on the grid. At the start of a race please be aware that other drivers could be in your blind spot especially if you have been help up for some reason. Take extra care when moving across onto the racing line under these situations.

Lap 8 Start Line - Andy Nevill and Ben Summers

Andy approaches the pit lane at high speed as he attempts to make his pit stop. He has to brake heavily, looses control and unfortunately spins into the path of Ben Summers. Only explanation appears to be that Andy lost control under heavy braking whilst trying to turn slightly right into the pit lane. Andy didn't loose control under heavy braking in a straight line at any point during the race. On this lap Andy's approach speed (at the start of the pit lane) was 141 mph whereas on the next lap, when he made a successful pit stop, his approach speed was 125mph.

Racing incident.

Lap 19 Pulleveld - Karl Doyle and Mick Chapman

Mick is trying to make a fast exit out of the last turn but overcooks it and spins onto the grass. His car ends up perpendicular to the track but rather than make a sharp right turn to rejoin the race, Mick wanders across the track into to path of Karl who T-Bones him. There were no yellow flags and Karl had no chance to take avoiding action.

Karl Doyle is entitled to no-fault shift-R.

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Paul Skingley on his third win in a row taking him within striking distance of the current championship leader, Ralph Maiph. Quite a good clean race with just one big pile up at Masta which was no one's fault but took quite a few drivers out. Bad luck to Syd Drake who qualified first but who got disconnected during his pitstop.

Lap 4 Approaching La Carriere. Nigel Bradbury and Claudio Navonne.

What a bizarre incident this was! Nigel is to the rear and right of Claudio and closing on him after getting a better drive out of the previous corner. As Nigel comes alongside they touch sending Nigel off and leading him to shift-r. This could have easily been avoided if Nigel had kept to the right and Claudio had keep to the left but they dodn't give each other enough room.

I think this is a racing incident with each party equally at fault. Nigel failed to take a stop/go penalty after his shift R.

  • Nigel Bradbury — Failure to make S&G after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 9 Burnenville. Steve Peake & Simon Loynes

Steve has just done a shift-r and is to the right of the circuit building up speed. Simon is fast approaching on the left ready for the right hander. As Simon comes up to Steve, Steve rejoins the racing line and also slewing his rear out catching Simon by surprise and forcing him to take evasive action onto the grass. Simon crosses the grass and rejoins but tags Steve on the corner exit. Steve should have stayed off the racing line until he was up to full speed but Simon was also partially to blame for not slowing in anticipation of Steve's possible rejoin. Steve had to do a second shift-r but only carried out 1 stop/go penalty.

Steve's penalty is reduced from 3 places to 1 place due to being almost up to racing speed on rejoin and partial loss of control.

  • festerpenalty — bad rejoin (reduced) — 1 place lost (plus 1 for penalty points)
  • simon loyneswarning — failure to slow down for rejoining car

  • fester — Failure to make S&G after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Final lap Dean Holloway

Dean carried out a shift-r on the final lap but obviously couldn't carry out his stop/go penalty.

  • Dean Holloway — Failure to make S&G after Shift-R — 15.000 seconds added

Moderator's Report

A titanic race long duel for the lead eventually saw Syd take the win after Paul ran wide at turn 1 on lap 16. Congratulations Syd. Ralph Maiph was in a secure 3rd place when he was discoed on lap 17 with less than a lap and a half before the flag. This was really bad luck for Ralph who is in a strong position in the championship. Mick Chapman (who was dropped from the server on lap 15) completed the podium.

Ben Summers finished the race in a badly smoking Cooper. Seriously down on power, Ben's car was very slow down the straights but through intelligent driving (and the use of Pribula) he managed to keep out of the way of the faster cars. An object lesson in gentlemanly driving, well done Ben.

Unfortunately there were a few examples of bad driving that spoilt the race for a couple of drivers. In particular both Bernie and Barry were the victims of avoidable incidents. Please read the rules on the web site, particularly the sections on etiquette and penalty guidelines, we need to improve standards in the division for the benefit of all competitors.

Lap 1 Turn 3 - Andy Nevill, Karl Doyle, Ralph Maiph, Galiesch Darksoul, Mark Pitchford, Claudio Navonne

Andy puts a wheel on the grass at turn 2, which upsets the car. He gets back onto the tarmac but fails to regain full control before turn 3 and spins in the middle of the track. Karl and Ralph are following closely, Karl dodges right and gets past unscathed whilst Ralph makes a successful pass on the left. Galiesch is next along and isn't so lucky; he clips Andy's Eagle and spins onto the grass banking. Mark Pitchford has nowhere to go, he ploughs into Andy and is in turn collected by Claudio. Whilst this incident was clearly started by Andy's mistake, warp played a significant factor in determining who got caught up in the melee. Ralph disappears from the server replay for several seconds but not before Mick Chapman drives straight through the Ferrari's gearbox. Claudio almost gets through before the warp catches up with him.

Racing Incident - Exacerbated by warp.

- Galiesch Darksoul - Entitled to no fault shift R. - Claudio Navonne - Entitled to no fault shift R.

Note: More care on lap 1 please. You can't win a race on the first lap but you can ruin it, for yourself and others.

Lap 5 Turn 11 - Karl Doyle, Bernie Darwin, Barry West

Karl is trying to hang on to Ralph's Ferrari when he overcooks it and spins harmlessly on to the grass at turn 11. But then he tries a rejoin without checking for following drivers. Bernie can be clearly seen approaching as Karl is facing the wrong way. The attempted doughnut goes horribly wrong and Bernie can't avoid Karl's Lotus that is stationary on the racing line. Bernie is marooned on the track with the offside front wheel clearly missing from his Lotus but for some reason he attempts to rejoin the race, promptly taking out Barry's approaching Honda.

- Barry West - Entitled to no fault shift R.

Note: If you make a mistake accept it and rejoin carefully. Don't ruin other drivers' races with inconsiderate rejoins.

  • Karl Doylepenalty — Bad rejoin — 3 places lost (plus 2 for penalty points)

Lap 7 Turn 13 - Barry West, Andy Nevill

Andy is closing fast on Barry but leaves his braking too late and rear ends the Honda.

- Barry West - Entitled to no fault shift R.

  • Andy Nevillpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

Lap 10 Pits - Mick Chapman

Mick pits outside the pit window on Lap 10.

  • Mick Chapmanwarning — Late pitstop — also, 3 places lost for penalty points

Lap 18 Turn 1 - Mark Pitchford, Galiesch Darksoul

Galiesch draughts along side Mark across the start line but doesn't get his nose in front and is in Mark's blind spot as they both turn in to turn 1. This is a daring move but not an ambitious overtake according to the published guidelines. Galiesch was along side, there was room for 2 cars and he clearly made the corner. It may have been wiser for Mark to take a defensive line and force Galiesch to take the long way round or take a wider line since it was clear from the mirrors that Galiesch had taken the inside line.

Racing Incident.

Note: Under pressure either take a defensive line or be prepared make room (that doesn't mean capitulate).

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Syd Drake on another win and to Raiph for continuing to close the gap to Paul Skingley.

Bernie Darwin's pitstop was 4 seconds short multiplied by 3 gives a penalty of 12 seconds.

  • bernie — short pitstop — 12.000 seconds added

Syd Drake pitted outside his pit window on Lap 10 with 6 remaining. The latest he could stop was Lap 8 with 8 remaining. I wouldn't normally bother with this but the reason he missed his stop is that he was overtaking a Ferrari on the pit straight instead of coming in to the pit. If he had pitted correctly the outcome of the race might have been different. I don't want to spoil Syd's win but I think I have to give a warning for this.

Moderator's Report

With the championship finely poised the two main protagonists, Ralph Maiph and Paul Skingley, put up a tremendous show in qualifying and occupied the front row of the grid. Syd Drake occupied third spot on the grid with another superb qualifying time. The first lap was intense and before long the three leaders were involved in an incident at Virage de Tertre Rouge. Despite ending up at the back of the field, Syd fought his way his way back to the front to take the win. Well done Syd. Another brilliant recovery by Paul saw him take the runner up slot and with it he secured the Division 2 Title. Congratulations Paul. Unfortunately Claudio's short pitstop cost him his first podium position of the season and presented Derek Howe with his second.

Lap 1 Turn 4 - Ralph Maiph, Syd Drake and Paul Skingley

Ralph and Paul are side by side as they approach turn 4. Paul has the inside line and with an aggressive move leaves his braking to the last second, taking the lead. Ralph is taken by surprise and clips Paul's gearbox sending them both into a spin. Paul was a full car length in front and was only doing 53mph when he turned in so he would easily have made the corner. Ralph should have yeilded. Syd negotiates his way around Ralph but can't avoid Paul who has bounced back off the inside armco. Ralph recovers quickly and rejoins the race but Paul and Syd end up floundering on the sand bank and rejoin at the back of the field.

  • Ralph Maiphpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

Lap 2 Turn 7 - Mike Ratters and Mick Chapman.

Mike closes in fast on Mick and fails to make enough allowance for the difference in speed consequently he rear ends the Cooper. Mick is entitled to a no-fault shift R.

  • Ratterspenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost (plus 3 for penalty points)

Lap 2 Turn 17 - Ralph Maiph, Mark Pitchford and Mike Ratters

After a torrid first lap Ralph is trying to make up for lost time and catches Mark very quickly. Unfortunately his misjudges his approach speed and rear ends Mark. Mike is following close behind and can't avoid Ralph's stricken Ferrari.

  • Ralph Maiphpenalty — Rear End Shunt — 2 places lost

  • Ralph Maiph — Failure to take a S&G after shift R — 15.000 seconds added

Lap 3 Pit Lane - Mike Ratters

Short pit stop by Mike. Should have stopped for 7 seconds but he actually stopped for 4. Stop was 3 seconds short so penalty is 3 times 3.

  • Ratters — Short Pit Stop — 9.000 seconds added

Lap 3 Turn 7 - Derek Howe and Dean Holloway

Dean is trying to fend off Syd Drake and leaves his braking far too late rear ending Derek. Derek is entitled to a no-fault shift R.

Lap 4 Pit Lane - Claudio Navonne

Short pit stop by Claudio. Should have stopped for 52 seconds for a single stop or made two stops of 18 seconds each but he actually made one 33 second stop. Stop was 19 seconds short so penalty is 3 times 19.

Lap 7 Turn 12 - Ralph Maiph, Mark Pitchford

Mark outbrakes himself slightly and has to make a correction to his line mid corner. Ralph is gaining rapidly and is caught out by Mark's slower than expected exit speed. Unfortunately Ralph rear ends Mark. Mark gets stuck behind a tree and needs to Shift R in order to continue. Cannot penalize Mark here as he was entitled to take his line. Consequently he is allowed a no fault Shift R. As the following driver Ralph is responsible for the incident but Mark's unusual line is a mitigating factor.

Lap 8 Turn 11 - Claudio Navonne and Galiesch Darksoul

Galiesch makes a mistake in turn 10 and he looses momentum. Claudio grabs the chance to take the inside line and leaves his braking to the last second. He makes the pass but he is travelling a bit quicker than usual (85mph) and so runs a bit wide. Galiesch sees the Eagle looming large in his mirrors and tries to leave enough room but begins to turn in before Claudio has completed his pass. Consequently Galiesch clips Claudio's rear wheel. Claudio carries on but Galiesch needs to do a shift R in order to continue.

Note: This incident was avoidable if Claudio hadn't been opportunist or if Galiesch had stayed wider but racing is racing and this type if incident is inevitable. Can't apportion blame so can't award a no-fault shift R. Its just bad luck, on another day both cars could have been unscathed.
