Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Dave Randall for winning the opening round of Season 12. A good consistent drive at a high speed track where mistakes can cost you dearly.

Lap 1 – C. Loynes and C. Darkes

Clive brakes too late for Curva Poca and sends Chris off into the scenery forcing him to reset. A classic rear-end shunt.

  • Clive Loynespenalty — Rear end shunt — 2 places lost

Lap 5 Lesmo 1: M. Chapman and K. Williams

Mick is too fast into Lesmo 1 and makes contact with Kev. I’m reducing this to a warning since it’s the first race of the season and it was a loss of control from Mick rather than poor judgement.

  • Mick Chapmanwarning — Rear end shunt — also, 3 places lost for penalty points

Lap 5 – K. Williams Shift-R

As a result of the above incident Kev has to reset. He fails to perform the mandatory 35 second pitstop which applies regardless of blame. Unfortunately this means a disqualification.

Lap 20 Lesmo 1: M. Chapman and J. Roberts

John loses it out of Lesmo 1 meaning Mick had nowhere to go.

Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Gasper Lednik for winning this one. Nat, Hristo, Mick and Dave all had discos while running well.

Only one incident to report:

Lap 5 – Kevin Williams 2 x ShiftR
Kevin resets the car twice on the same lap but only comes in for a single Stop & Go rather than the required 2 x 35 sec stops. Unfortunately, missing a mandatory pitstop means disqualification.

Moderator's Report

A low turnout for this one. Hristo Itchov and Kevin Williams were unlucky with discos early on.

Lap 29 – L. Galluzi and K. Murray
Lorenzo is leading and runs wide at the final corner, two wheels completely off the track. Ken, who is following closely is already committed to the corner on the racing line. Lorenzo’s loss of momentum means there is contact, sending them both into the kitty litter. I’m calling this a racing incident since Lorenzo’s actions have more to do with keeping the car from spinning than attempting to stop Ken getting past. A risk we all take with close racing.

Lorenzo bumps into Ken as they’re rejoining the track following the above incident. I don’t believe this was intentional but drivers are asked to be more patient in future.

Racing Incident

Lap 31 – L. Galluzi and K Murray
Ken is leading after the previous incidents with Lorenzo close behind. Lorenzo pulls out of the slipstream on the way in to turn 1 and ends up hitting Ken up the gearbox as they turn in causing him to spin. Having been involved in a multi lap battle both drivers should be well aware of the other’s braking points. On this lap Ken brakes, if anything, a little later than on the previous few laps.

Lap 31 – L. Galluzi and G. Lednik
Recovering from the above incident, Lorenzo runs into Gasper as he’s passing the crash scene. I’m reducing the penalty to 1 place as Gasper was not in Lorenzo’s mirrors and Lorenzo was in an awkward position himself. It is still however, the responsibility of the recovering driver to make sure it is safe to proceed before doing so.

Moderator's Report

Great driving from the top two, miles ahead of the rest who had a bit of a scrap, especially at the hairpin.

Lap 6 - K. Murray and J. Roberts

Ken misjudges his braking resulting in punting John off at the hairpin having been far too far behind to attempt an overtaking move.

  • Ken Murraypenalty — Ambitious overtake — 2 places lost (plus 2 for penalty points)

Lap 12 - M. Gilmour and K Williams

Hristo is late on the brakes and overtakes Martin on the inside entering Turn 1. Consequently his high corner entry speed forces him wide but he is able to make the chicane at turn 2. Unfortunately Hristo's speed through Turn 2 is compromised and Martin has to slow down more than usual to avoid rear ending him. This catches out Kevin who just clips Martin's gearbox as they exit the chicane. Kevin waits for Martin to recover before proceeding.

Racing Incident.

Lap 15 - M. Gilmour and Malc

Malc leaves his braking to the last possible moment and although on previous laps he's managed to stop in time, on this occasion he locks the wheels and slides into Martin.

43 mins - K. Williams Shift-R

Kevin has to reset the car but fails to make the mandatory 35 second pitstop. Unfortunately this results in exclusion.

Moderator's Report

Great driving from Nat and Hristo up front, lapping the entire field.

Lap 1 S. Strudwick and M. Chapman

Struds looses control on the crest of the rise and he spins collecting Mick. Rear end shunt mitigated by one place due to the loss of control.

Note: As a result of his Shift-R Mick comes in at the end of lap 1 for a lengthy pit-stop. Shift-R’s on lap 1 only require a stop & go rather than the usual 35 secs so he lost out badly here.

Various laps between 17mins and 27 mins - K. Williams

Kev had a nightmare of a race using four Shift-R’s and only coming in for two SnG’s rather than the required 35 sec stops.

Moderator's Report

A low turnout with every finisher gaining big points. Congratulations to Nat Wald for a consistent drive in the Eagle. Driver of the race has to be Hristo Itchov for somehow keeping his BRM in touch until the very last lap. Dave Randall was unlucky here, discoing while looking good for a podium.

Lap 16 Hristo Itchov Shift-R

Hristo runs wide on the final lap, getting his car stuck on a sand dune in the process. He has no choice but to reset, dropping from 2nd to 4th in the process. As there was no opportunity to take the 35sec stop in the pits the time will be added to his race time (plus 8 secs to allow for slowing down and speeding up again on the fast pit straight.)

Moderator's Report

A very low turnout for this re-run event so good points all round. First place was hotly contested by Ken and Dave whilst the rest fought to stay on the track.

No incidents to report.

Moderator's Report

Summary

Congratulations to Nat Wald for a near flawless drive in the Cooper at this tricky circuit.

A very clean race with only two incidents to mention.

Hristo Itchov & John Roberts - Lap 1 - 3m04s on replay

John passes Hristo who had been leading before a spin. Hristo closes rapidly and almost runs in to the back of John as they take the next left hander. The following corner is no different and the massive difference in cornering speed causes Hristo to run into the back of John with predictably catastrophic results.

It's a tricky one this, Hristo should have been aware that John was slower than him from his experience at the previous corner. On the other hand, he had no way of knowing that John hadn't simply had a bad corner and would be faster through the next one. In any case it is the following driver's responsibility to avoid contact so I'm awarding a 1 place penalty (reduced from the usual 2 places due to the unpredictability of John's cornering speed).

David Randall - Pit Lane - 34mins on clock

Dave takes a Shift-R and comes in to the pits for a SnG rather than the 35sec wait required in the Masters Cup. Unfortunately this means 3 times the shortage being added to Dave's race time.
