Moderator's Report

All drivers are reminded that during qualifying, you must be extra cautious as you exit the pits; you cannot set a good time on your outlap, but you can certainly ruin the hotlaps of others. If I receive repeated reports of particular drivers causing problems I will penalise them.

Server replay time: 248s

On the first flying, at what are now called the Fogarty Esses, Fozz brakes too late with cold tyres and brakes, slides up the inside of Popabawa, and spins off. Luckily Pops is unaffected.

Because this is the first racing lap, this would normally be a 3 place penalty. However, because this was cock up rather than conspiracy, and because Fozz had the sense to hold his hand up and submit a very honest incident report, I'm reducing it to 2.

Server replay time: 270s

PaulW is following Mo into Goddards, with Mo on the left and PaulW on the right. Mo began moving over to the right to take the normal line into the corner, so Paul started to move left so he wasn't right behind him. Unfortunately they reach the braking zone just as their paths cross and with no room to spare Paul tags the back of Mo, spinning him off.

This is quite an unusual situation and not at all like a classic rear ender. As much as anything it serves to highlight the importance of taking a clear line and not changing it or driving down the middle of the track in a braking zone. In this instance it's exacerbated by the right hand kink just before Goddards.

Neither driver did anything outrageous, so it's essentially a racing incident.

  • moadvice — choose a definite line before reaching a braking zone

Server replay time: 1409s

Popabawa is some way behind Don1 (wobble) as they head towads the Foggy Esses. Pops brakes as normal and moves slightly left in case Don has broken early, but Don1 turns in too early (perhaps thinking to defend the line? we may never know as he didn't submit a report), and has to slow dramatically to make the corner, whereupon Pops runs into the back of him.

Pops does allow Don to rejoin ahead, and since Don wasn't upset enough to submit an incident report I'm going to let it go with just a caution.

  • popabawacaution — contact with Don1

Server replay time: 1839s

Having gone off unaided under braking, Don1 (wobble) rejoins far too eagerly at Goddards and drives straight onto the racing line without stopping to look, and into Fozz.

  • Don (Don1)penalty — bad rejoin — 3 places lost

If you could contrive for the system to permanently lose all points above 127, I'd be eternally grateful!  Cheesy

Sorry to disappoint you but I've widened all the points fields from TINYINT to INT (even the ones where TINYINT is currently big enough) so Shark has his slender lead back. Tongue Cheesy

Bah.  Sad

Well, I probably wouldn't have got 127 points anyway.  Wink

Quote from:
Into the race, was pretty sure Matjaz was going to be faster than anyone and sure enough he didn't take long to take the 3 ahead of him and into the lead. I thought he would pull away then but I managed to keep with him for about half distance and then I just don't know what happened. My car just lost a lot of grip, the tyre temps were fine, there was nothing wrong with the car but the car suddenly felt real lacking in grip. This helped Paul close right up with me and he looked like he was pushing very hard. I somehow fended him off only twice actually having to fend off overtaking attempts (from memory). Eventually Paul made a mistake on the s/f straight as we were side by side after doing a sandwich job on one of the back markers (he must have wondered where to go and just closed his eyes as Paul and I went either side  ), paul just touched the grass and he lost about 3 seconds and that was that. Just needed to be tidy on the last 2 laps and I took 2nd, very pleased.

Had a quick look at the replay, and it's funny how your memory plays tricks. I was well in touch by lap 5, the incident when we passed the backmarker either side was bang on half distance, after which I caught up and we had several very close laps ending in the side by side into the esses about 2-3 laps from the end, after which I ran wide at the loop and never got back in contention.

Yes took me ages to find that incident where we sandwiched the backmarker cause it was sooo much earlier than i thought possible. Felt much later into the race. I also forgot we caught back up to Matjaz at a couple of points where he came up to backmarkers was very close to him at a couple of points.

That was me, hope I behaved myself - I saw you spin off Paul and thought "I hope that wasnt my fault".

Cheers

Ah good I can use your name instead of "a backmarker" now. Sorry Rob, was too busy trying to beat Paul to notice who it was.

Angry  Huh  Angry  Huh  Angry  Huh

Had problems with internet connection last night and couldn't join the race (not a fault of Simbin for a change). I was so pissed...

Hope you had a good time, but here is more at stake - I missed a second race allready.

You did fine Rob - must have been a bit daunting with Simon all over you like a rash! My spin wasn't your fault, just me looking at Simon instead of the road  Roll Eyes
