Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 900s

Luke had just been passed by Steve and another car and was running close behind Steve into the final turn. He braked a little late and was off the racing line so couldn't slow enough to avoid running into the back of Steve and spinning him.
Luke has graciously appologised on the forum thread and obviously realises his error. However, the penalty will stand as it would have been more fitting to have given the place back to Steve, which Luke failed to do.

Server replay time: 1830s

Almost a carbon copy of the first incident....with the same result.

I don't know Simon....using the Morgan as a lawnmower looked like fun too.... laugh

LOL, well that did wake me up momentarily. Grin

Every right hand corner was like trying to drive a car with an anchor attached. My left front was so worn after only a few laps that it didn't matter how I turned in or exited the corner the car just didn't want to turn right and that made driving not fun at all.

wow, what a race that was! Shocked and i didnt even expect to last longer than the opening grid as i was getting awful warping from cars in front of me and almost constant 'game re-synching' messages at turn1 and final corner early on.

Qually was well off my offline PB's, but i found the whole wobbly online experience very offputting and un-settling so was happy to get some late quicker runs and qually 8th just behind Steve and more importantly...in front of shark ! Cool

During the race, the connection stayed stable until people started quitting the race, then i would suffer serious warpage behind TT and Steve and i kept having to back right off in case i rear ended a teamie  Sad  this kept putting me back into the clutches of shark and losing me valuable seconds when i really wanted to put Steve and Luke under pressure.
Gradually the line stabilised and i was able to close on them again and i enjoyed some great battles with Steve and Luke whilst Shark kept a menacing stance behind me for lap after lap.
I then saw my teamie get clattered up ahead at the final corner..on two seperate occasions by the same opponent  nono allowing me to slip past and chase after TT and Dan Minton
I closed to within a couple of secs of Dan on final laps whilst fending off tough assaults from Pseudos Fezza and suffering worn tyres. (21 on both lefts). A couple more laps would have been very interesting for the 3 of us with Psuedo breathing down my neck.

Good result at a tough track with TT 4th and my 6th   Cool

but it should have been at least 4th,5th and 6th with Steve included, and maybe we could have been even higher without connection problems and contact on track.

Great driving gents  and congrats to the podium  thumbup1

Yet again an awful night for discos and synchronising for many drivers...any insight into why this is suddenly happening? Seems a bit of a coincidence that so many of us are having problems. Like Baracus, my problems have only started in this last few days since thursday. What actions can i take my end?..if any? I pay for a premium ISP (Fast.co.uk).

He wants to see a traceroute and ping to the GTR2 server but I told him I don't think I can get that info as its hard-coded into the game.

You can do a traceroute to the game server, mine is

Code:
C:\>tracert 84.244.178.111

Tracing route to 84.244.178.111 over a maximum of 30 hops

  1     1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  192.168.0.1
  2    32 ms    33 ms    32 ms  lo0-plusnet.pte-ag2.plus.net [195.166.128.72]
  3    33 ms    32 ms    32 ms  ge0-0-0-504.pte-gw2.plus.net [84.92.4.90]
  4    32 ms    32 ms    32 ms  80.239.193.141
  5    33 ms    31 ms    31 ms  ldn-bb2-link.telia.net [80.91.248.94]
  6    40 ms    41 ms    40 ms  adm-bb2-pos6-0-0.telia.net [213.248.65.158]
  7    41 ms    39 ms    41 ms  adm-b3-link.telia.net [80.91.254.129]
  8    41 ms    41 ms    40 ms  wedare-ic-124120-adm-b3.c.telia.net [213.248.72.10]
  9    40 ms    41 ms    41 ms  10ge-7-1-0.cr2.ams.we-dare.net [84.244.188.4]
 10    41 ms    41 ms    41 ms  84.244.178.111

Trace complete.

Not sure if one must keep in touch with the lobby during the race, if so that trace might be important. I expect they can learn something from such a trace but with all the traffic shaping some ISPs do I suspect a ping is fairly low on the food chain. Thus potentially a pessimistic view of what's happening.

From the back of the grid, the formation lap was certainly, er "entertaining", though I can't say the back of the grid needed to be pushed even farther behind the front due to these events!  Cheesy

The good news was I finished the race (no "Connection Lost"!), made contact with no other cars, and believe I didn't inconvenience anyone on any 'rejoins' (I have the 90-degree look Left/Right .plr mod to thank).

The bad news is that I have a steep learning curve in front of me with respect tyre models and car setups.  The Porsche GT3 RS with Dunlop tyres--which I didn't realise were on the 'default' car selected (I've only driven Michelins/Pirellis previously)--turned the Porsche into an evil-handling pig after 1/3 of the way into the race, and I was getting massive corner exit oversteer which resulted in numerous 'offs'.  Trying various strategies to 'drive around' the problem just made me slower and slower . . .  I'm a bit befuddled, as I finished the race with tyre-wear numbers no worse that '19', and never had worse than 'orange' displaying on any tyre throughout the race.  Should I try a different car/tyre combination next race, for greater 'stability'--possibly the Vertigo?  Any hints welcomed.

Thanks for the info Bob. I'm thinking its not really going to help Nildram though becuase other games have all been laggy this week too to the point of unplayable yesterday - never ever seen it this bad.

Anyway can;t be arse to deal with them any more as they have been most unhelpful so I've signed up to fast.co.uk today which should be active next Wednesday. There might then be the horrid 10 days of testing my line for the max reliable speed so still might not be able to game until that has settled down... but its not going to stop me trying! Cheesy

I went for the top service at Fast (£50 a month) with the 830kbps upload speed which should help too with a bit of luck. Digits Crossed Smiley

Is it time we tried all using Cable/ADSL as the setting in game instead of ISDN? Does anyone know why we use ISDN?

To limit the load on the server. The assumption was always that the server was always the weak link in the chain, so telling it to communicate with clients using any more bandwidth than was absolutely necessary seemed a bad idea.

Is that an issue anymore? Our server is pretty good and so is the bandwidth.

Just thinking that maybe cause we are all using ISDN that we're effectively throttling what our clients can do and maybe ISDN isn't enough for the big grids? I dunno, just trying to throw some ideas into the mix. Most likely is it's the internet and it sucks and what can you do.

My understanding was ISDN uses less bandwidth and thus stress everywhere on the system. The race experience always seemed better by us consolidating on a particular speed. I'm always game to try these things as you might get less car jitter sending more data in the same time frame but if you warp I don't think it's because 1 update packet was lost but several. Upping the amount of data you send in any time period when none gets through will make sod all difference.

If we could arrange a test race where we had a full grid, otherwise what do we really learn, for a decent length race we could see what the difference is. I can however can assure you that if your ADSL line resets you will still get chucked  Roll Eyes

The RS is a pretty hard to handle car, especially on Dunlops. Dunno if there is a RS on Michelins, if so, try those first and check out the difference.

Vertigo is very stable and very good in corners, it just lacks straightline speed.

Other good/stable GTC cars are the Mosler and Nissan 350Z.
