In the process of doing a set up for this race and I can't make my mind up which would be the best approach to the gearing.

In the Lambo, a couple of the turns fall somewhere between 1st and 2nd gear for me......the fastest way I've found to get round is by having a slightly longer 1st gear, and using it, as opposed to using very low revs in 2nd.

but a super endurance....around 84/85 laps means a further 340 ish gear changes...in and out of 1st...will the engine explode? (or will my fingers go as numb as my brain?)  Undecided Undecided Undecided

There should be no corner at Valencia which requires 1st gear. Just make sure you get out of the corner with amximum torque rpm Smiley.

Jeffs right no need for first gear, much easier to drive out of the corner with the torque than the car right on the powerband and fighting the rear end ...just make sure you have the momentum, remember little bit slower in fast out. Wink

Cheers Dan and Jeff,

I'm not quite as quick using 2nd, but at least the engine will have a better chance of survival...I have adjusted my gearing accordingly.  Grin Kiss

I use a long first gear in the Lambo. With Valencia, if it's the GP circuit, I think you would only need second +, but the long circuit definately needs first!  laugh

Can't make this Sad. Can only race for about an hour or so before I have to go. If only it started an hour earlier Wink.

Man i am not good at setups as this track really makes a point of it  Embarrassed
Hopefully slow and hopefully consistent will do the trick  angel

I'm so VERY angry right now. Dam Simbin to hell.

Edit - right, now I've had time to calm down a little, and I mean a little.

I enjoyed the start of the race, its been some time since I've done any serious racing, let alone with UKGTR, but I was reasonably happy with my pace. Had some good tussles with people out on track and was getting into my strategy.

Came in for my first pit stop and I overshot my stall slightly. The pit board refused to come up even after reversing and going forwards again. Nothing, nowt. So after some time I decided to try and tour round to see if I could make it back to the pits to get the stop done. I did, but I was now sitting stewing and very angry with the makers of the game. So I decided to DNF in case I lose it and take someone out.

I hope the rest of the field had a good race and made it to the end.

Ditto the above  Angry

except the DNF part.  Kept going but was most definately angry and not driving too steadily as a result.

Was expecting a much better result here after qually in 3rd.  Sad

Had an early spin and lost a load of places but started making them back before the first stop...stop.

Never really recovered any form after that and had to settle for 9th.

Grats to Brian...not bad for no setup, no strategy and no practice.  Wink

well done podium and all finishers.

Great racing chaps thanks. Very well done to Brian and Mike for the other podiums.

For 50 minutes until I need to stop I sat behind Mike in his F550. Managed to get past him at the pit stops where I tried out soft-medium tyres for the middle stint under good reviews from my team-mate Gizmo. However the balance was gone and although I wasn't slow I really didn't like the feel of them. Decided to pit early for the final stint after a shorter middle stint to get back to medium-medium and to make the maths easier put 100 litres in with 45 minutes left, which seemed about right (and it was).

In the final stint Brian made his pit stop and he came out very close ahead of me. I managed to get past whilst his tyres and brakes were still cold and hung onto it for a while. Eventually though his extra pace was too much and he got by with a surprise out-brake into one of the left handers in the middle of the lap. After that he was gone and I had to worry about Mike closing me down from behind, but there weren't enough laps left for him at the rate of closing and eventually he dropped back a lot after I think some accident on the final bend?

That was really tough stuff and amazing to be so close after such a long race, with overtakes and pit battles along the way it's what I like about super endurance.

Thanks and see you soon for the "Sprint" race tomorrow evening!

Well, that was an eventful race. Managed a very clean first stint, pitting in around P10. Couldn't keep it together on the second stint however. I was all over the track, even managed to get stuck in the gravel in T10 and had to spend a minute or so heaving the car back on the track. Ended up with a 20 min last stint, tried to catch Ade with a light car and soft tires but kept pushing too hard.

Sorry to lapping cars for some scary moments in T2. I would flash my lights and run the corner on the outer edge to allow a safe pass. However a couple of times near the end I locked my worn tyres and almost slipped back to the line. Luckily no contact there.

First of all - sorry to Picnic for a spin. Was a bit impatient while lapping and a bit surprised by the early braking - guess you were careful not to spin in front of me and I hit you. Sorry again.  Sad
Came home late and came into Q2 session. Qualified 12th, I guess you had better conditions at the beginning, as I couldn't get any faster than that - the track was a bit damp.
Was gaining places slowly, came to 6th and stayed there. Places were swapped due pitting only. Made a mistake in the second pit-stop and lost all the advantages of Lister. Too much fuel.  censored  I lost 1 place minimum, possibly two.  no   Came out behind Gazza, closed the gap slowly, man what a chase that was!  Cool  He made a slight mistake in the last lap, went slightly wide and there was a chance - do or die!  scooter Well, the tyres didn't bite hard enough, spinned a bit and I made some fish-tails as a result and had to back down, lest I put out both of us. Well done, Gazza.  yes

And others, of course.  Wink
Sooty, don't get scared or intimidated. Fight to the bitter end!  2guns sweatdrop
