That was a great race, just spoilt for me by a faintly disappointing result given my race pace. Ran almost the entire race in the JR train stuck behind the big, wide, Falcon.
All 4 of us covered by about 1.5 seconds most of the time. Amazingly close, but very little contact considering how tight we were and always gentlemanly racing.
Tried tentatively to get by PR several times, I reckon I was a little quicker than him, certainly at the start, but my middle gearing was hitting the limiter at the end of the main straight every time I pulled alongside. I didn't want to do anything stupid so no lunges. Kept swapping places with Bara (great to have you back
) as I got baulked by JR and PR, but it was pretty easy to breeze back past the mini given a few laps, Bara had slight understeer in a couple of places that lost him momentum.
Then running an easy third, thought I'd try a speculative move round the outside of Ruskus' Falcon in the left hander, knew it was a long shot but if I could stay outside him I'd have the inside of the right hander where I was always really quick. Of course we banged doors (fairly, though) and I went off track. Bara went through, but knew it would only take 2-3 laps to catch and pass him and then the race ended, I'd not checked my LCD for several laps and lost count. Numpty, would have played it safe in 3rd if I'd known. Keep throwing away potential podiums with silly misjudgments and errors :'(
But it was a fascinating and enjoyable race. I was definitely wrong about the V8s being competitive here. Must have been a second or more a lap slower. If my front left tyre was going by the end then no wonder Jeff's Falcon was all over the place.
