Grats to the podium and commiserations to all those who cdt'd.  It would have been nice to have a few more cars and battles going on, it gets quite boring all on your own on those long straights!!

The first half the race was a 2 litre duel between Ken , Mike and myself with loads of slipstreaming. For a few insane minutes i wondered if we would get a 2 litre podium???  Then Mike blew his engine on back straight and it was me and Ken for a while towing each other around.
Reality was restored when Syd and Lorenzo steamed up on us and swept past, which wass ok because both Ken and I went for the tow behind the bigger cars. All was well for a lap or so then Syd (it appears ) wobbled at the end of the straight causing a little confusion amongst our happy band. In order to avoid rear ending Ken who was busy avoiding Syd and Lorenzo I put myself onto the gravel. Even though it took only a second to scrabble out I was too far back to pick up the tow and was isolated. The leading trio pulled away at a couple of seconds a lap, and behind me Art was winding his Cooper up and closing with only a few laps to go. The shame is with a 2 litre being chased by a 3 litre, is that you actually give the bigger car a tow!!! as if it needed it on those straights!!?? Art zoomed past on the start finish straight and I tried to hol onto his coat tails only to go off into the cornfields in my enthusiasm.

Phil was the next car behind and according to prib and the rate at which the gap was closing on the straights ( that is just sooo frustrating, watching someone take a couple of seconds off you when your foot is screwed to the floor in top gear!!!) he was going to catch me before the end.
But it seems he got a little carried away and took an excursion into the countryside  and gave me a healthy cushion to cling on to my 5th place  Grin
Really enjoyed those early laps. Thanks Ken and Mike.

Yes, forgot that Mike was also in the mix for those opening laps. It was great fun and hopefully the nimble 2 litres can get some revenge at the tricky Brands Hatch?

Got a decent start, passing Art who seems to have bogged down on the start line.  Slotted in behind Mike through T1 but I was aware of a Lotus on my inside so I tried to stay wide through T2.  Saw a Maclaren clip the grass ahead which distracted me for a split second which was all I needed to miss my turn-in point and I ended up spinning onto the grass.  I didn't beach the car in the hay so I got going without needing a shift R.  I was so keen to try to make amends I missed my braking at Virage de Muizon.  By the time I got going again Lorenzo had recovered in his Maclaren and set off after the leaders.  Bernie and Art were on Lorenzo’s tail and I was dead last and too far back to benefit from any slipstream.  As I come by the pits at the end of the lap Syd is returning to the track after a stop and go and I slotted in behind him but rather than sit there, the slipstream temps me into having a go up the inside at T2.  I get through but clip the grass on the exit for the second time in 2 laps and I'm off again!  This time I'm not so lucky and need a shift R and have to stop and go at the end of lap 2.  After my stop and go I'm way back with no chance of a tow so I just settle down and try to put some steady laps in and hope someone will have a problem and give me a second chance.  Had to wait until lap 13 when Clive Gardner makes a mistake at T2 and he's almost in range.  I'm dead last so I've nothing to loose so I push as hard as I can and I start to reel Clive in.  I just push too hard and spin out in T2 for a third time and need a second shift R.  Do a stop and go at the end of lap 14.

It must have been a great battle up front with Syd and Lorenzo climbing back up the field to claim first and second.  I was mixing it with both of them at the back of the field in the early stages so it goes to show it is possible to recover after a lap 1 problem.  At least I learnt something tonight.  Congrats to the podium.

A BIG FAT  oops and it won't be happening again guys.

Enjoyed my first outing in Historic though and looking forward to the next.  Grin

So does this means that if you had an engine blow up you have to do a Stop & Go? Or is it only if you caused a Shift R through crashing?

Yes.  The rule is defined here.  Check the section specific to the Historic Trophy it makes a distinction between shift Rs for mechanical problems, no-fault incidents, contested passes etc.
